Netgear D6200 Modem Router
I have Windstream DSL and have been having trouble staying connected with the modem they supplied. I have also started to have some issues with my old Netgear router [WNDR3300] as it was lacking in range. Most everything in the house has been converted to Apple products, and the traffic is getting pretty heavy. 5 I phones, 1 I pad, Mac Book Pro, I Mac 27". Apple TV, HP 8500 premium printer and 2 windows lap tops. So we are pretty heavy users at different times of the day. My windstream modem a speedstreem 4200 had to be reset a couple time a day, and after contacting Windstream to no avail, I decided to replace the modem. After finding the Netgear D6200 Modem Router combo on CNET with a good review, I decided that I would give it a try. I am by no means a computer guru, but I know enough to get by. I have had it up and running for a week now, and I have not had any issues with the system. No resets or failure to connect to the network. The setup was very simple and I renamed my network to match the old setup, it took me about 30 minutes including a firmware update. The coverage has increased in the home, as I had some dead spots with the old router. I do not have any products that are above the N range at this time so I have no info on the new AC wifi, but it's there when I do. Over all I have been very happy with the results I have been seeing. Nothing worse than having to get up and reset the system every few hours, it's much like every time you go to turn the lighs on having to go to the circuit box the flip the braker. All in all I would recommend the D6200 at this time. UPDATE 6/13 Just to let everyone know, I have had the router up and running for 3 months now and last week I lost service no internet connection. Not bad considering what I had been going thru with my old system, did a reset and still no internet, contacted ISP and they had an outage in the area. So I really have been up and running for 3 months without a drop in service.

This made a big difference and our internet isn't so crappy anymore!!!
We have been having issues with our internet and signal off and on for the last six years, we live in a rural area and only have one company to choose from for internet access and that is through our phone company. Anyways, we finally decided to try this... I probably would have tried it earlier, but I really know nothing about this type of stuff and I didn't know if anything would work if it wasn't bought from the internet company. This device has improved my internet tremendously! We haven't had any issues (knock on wood) since this was hooked up! I purchased the fastest internet speed available because we have all of our televisions streaming, multiple tablets in the house and cell phones too and since all of our TV shows are streamed they were always buffering and that was with only one TV on in the house, it was soooo frustrating! Since we have had this hooked up we have had no buffering and I now have signal in the whole downstairs (finished basement) of my house, before I could never keep a connection on my phone to play a video. Set up was a little bit of an issue because the genie never popped up on the computer. I called the customer service number and got a really nice woman, the only problem was she had an accent. I don't say that to be mean, I say that because I think the call wouldn't have taken quite as long as it did if I didn't have to have everything repeated. The customer service woman was extremely nice though. Anyway if anyone out there in Amazonville decides to purchase this, it will probably be easier to connect via cell phone or tablet because while I was on the phone with customer service I tried to connect on the tablet, the genie popped right up and I was able to connect! I tried to explain to the woman that I was finally connected, but she still insisted on walking me through a few steps on the computer, I don't know if those steps were necessary because it was in the settings, and since I couldn't really understand what she was saying I just went with it. Anyways, after an afternoon on the phone we were finally up and going and have not had any problems since! I would definitely recommend this product it made a huge difference with our service and even though I did have to spend a lot of time with customer service, the customer service was wonderful and she really did seem to care and want to make everything right so for that I am thankful and thought it was worth it. I have been recommending this box to all of my neighbors too and I actually believe one of them has already purchased because he texted me to get the model number.

---Absolutely the worst. I have had 3 other Netgear modem/routers and ...
Product worked well for about 4-6 months. Customer service consisted of being on hold for 55 minutes to only get a foreign call center with a rep who had limited English speaking skills and wanted my credit card number before he could help. I was told it only comes with a 90 day tech support although the modem/router is guaranteed for 1yr, yet csr could not help with return our replacement until I gave my CC #. ---Absolutely the worst. I have had 3 other Netgear modem/routers and thought it was maybe a fluke but now I am inclined to think they are designed to malfunction in order to make more money.

Overall good combo DSL Modem-WiFi Router
This is a long-term review after using it for 1 year. It just works and is generally dependable and reliable. It is working well with Centurylink DSL and also works well as a WiFi Router with Cable modems. Dual-band range and signal strength is good across many walls in a multi-storied setting. Initial setup and editing settings later is very easy to do. Works very well with a mixture of devices including Windows 7, 8.1, Galaxy S5/S4, Windows Phone, Chromecast TV Adapters etc. I took off one star because it is not perfect. I have used many different brands and they all have their little quirks. I had previously tried the Actiontec brand and the Actiontec did not work well with my DSL connection. This Netgear unit being a combo DSL Modem-WiFi Router offers a lot of functionality in a very small form-factor. It has also worked well as a standalone WiFi router. Make sure to power cycle occasionally and download latest firmware updates. Overall a good system and recommended buy!

This item seems perfect, but it doesn't work w/ Time Warner Cable.
I bought this item ( a quite expensive modem router) for the advanced tech in terms of high internet speed & various functions, but it has no wire cable, which fits for Time Warner Cable. I like this item, but it doesn't fit for the service I need.

Tired of your ISP's modem or just need something better? Do it right.
As far as combo-boxes go, this is a winner. Netgear had some earlier hiccups with this (the V1... you'll see some of those reviews mixed in with the reviews for this V2) but the V2, which I purchased, is a winner. Everything my telco/ISP (who Netgear does warn about in their supplied setup booklet) said I couldn't do on my own in order to get me to buy their cheap, overpriced, less functional, less secure, box, the D6200 does with room to spare. I only wanted two SSID's (2.4Ghz & 5 Ghz) but got total of 4 in the form of the main SSID and a guest SSID for each band. I have full control of the visibility, whether it's enabled, and if wifi traffic is isolated from my local network (the wired ports) for each SSID. It has an external WAN port so you can switch between DSL or Router mode at will. I can't test that because I don't have cable. However, if I do upgrade to bonded-DSL (aka Vbond) and go to 24 Mbps, I will be using it. This may be Netgear's intention: Have Vbond running in an external modem with a failover mode by simply moving the RJ-11 phone plug. From unboxing it to having it up and running took me about 10 minutes. I then checked for the latest firmware, found there was an update and updated it. Piece of cake to do. After another 20 minutes I had it completely configured to serve my whole home (my media server, tv's, laptops, tablets and phones). Yeah, it does all that and gives you the ability to specify QoS for each type or host or by program/application name (specific ports). You can create your own 'services / applications' as you see fit. There are only two things I wish it would do that my Thomson can do. 1) Have multiple 'subnet' interface addresses for true subnet support (like the router it should be). That would make putting wired on the 10.0.1.x and wifi's on 10.0.2.x, 10.0.3.x, 192.168.1.x, etc perfectly logical without the need of MORE hardware. The other thing I wish it would do is with port-forwarding. It does NOT redirect. If data is received at port 'x', it must be forwarded to port 'x' and not redirected to port 'y'. Doing this would greatly enhance local security by making it harder to guess which external port is what. This would let you hide your ports for your use. Since installing the unit, it's emailed me the logs several times as someone tried to get in through my firewall. I had the attack recorded and reported to me as it was happening. As for performance, it's quick! While I can't speak to where 802.11ac will go, I can tell you this box does shovel the bits really well. I'm able to watch 1080p movies on 7 different devices at the same time without pauses (about 215 Mbits/sec). My 'extreme' wifi won't do that. If I've done the math right, I should now be able to serve up to about 20 simultaneous video streams, presuming 802.11ac does what it claims). I've also already experienced service outages (normal for winter here) and it was flawless as it should be. The local loop was never interrupted by either the drop or return. The unit comes with complementary telephone support for the first 30 days (a very nice touch). I still have my Thomson Speedtouch (which I 'retired' to add better/integrated wifi to my home) but doubt I'll need it. Sure this isn't cheap, but given the different modems I looked at, including the junk from the telco (and other ISPs) this was the clear winner. No doubt in my mind.

Super easy setup - imagine that!
First of all, I ordered this router yesterday and it was sitting on my doorstep at 1:00 this afternoon. That's pretty awesome. Second, I looked at a number of Netgear products and was a bit scared to order one given that many of the reviews complained about the hardware, the setup and the Netgear customer service. I'm no modem wizard and only deal with them when I have to. The crappy, weak router/modem we got through our ISP had been on the fritz for a couple of months. When I called our ISP, they said they no longer sell them, but rent them for $7/month. Um, no thank you. So, I read up and decided to go with this model because of the dual band and because it got some positive reviews. I sat down with it, quickly read through the setup guide and was expecting to spend the next couple of hours struggling with this. That tends to be how most things computers go in our house. We don't know what we're doing and have to research everything and then after many, many hours, we're able to get it working. Most of the time. This time, I kid you not, I had the damn thing connected up and with Internet access within 10 minutes of opening the box. And it's still working! Couldn't have been easier. For ease of setup alone, I give this 5 stars. Unbelievably easy to get working.

Unimpressed
I purchased this modem router after researching it and finding the specs on this device quite impressive. Indeed, this router initially performed very well, although the wifi was never very good. However, after a year this router is now performing quite poorly. If I don't reset the router every morning, it limits our connection speed to almost nothing. I have purchased several other tplink routers and they seem to perform much more consistently. I have kept the router up to date and I consistently turn off the router every couple of days to let it rest. Overall, I am unimpressed.
