Law School Legends Audio on Criminal Law (Law School Legends Audio Series) Review: Charles Whitebread is great! - Prof. Whitebread is an awesome lecturer. I thought the CD's were a great intro to Crim Law, and a great review at the end of the semester. I also found the outline he provided to be helpful. I got the highest grade in my class. I listened to them about 40 minutes/week all semester. So I went through them a few times. That probably helped. Review: it's okay, didn't help me in law school. - Good speaker but didn't help me in law school.

No good for car listening
The professor knows his material, and the organization is good. But he is a terrible speaker. He speaks too quickly and modulates the volume of his voice so much that some words are over-loud and others are inaudible. In particular, he will often rush the ends of his sentences and swallows the last word so you can't hear it. Maybe this is intelligible under headphones, but not while listening in the car with road noise. Even when he repeated a sentence and I still couldn't understand the last word or two. He blurts, blusters, mumbles, and loudly clears his throat. All this makes for a frustrating listen: I bought this set to review the subject matter, but I found myself struggling to understand what the heck he was saying. Gilbert should transcribe this lecture and re-issue it narrated by an intelligible lecturer.

Good overview of the Substantive law
I just finished listening to all four tapes, and I would recommend it. It's not the whole criminal law lecture. More of an overview and a checklist of the different crimes and how the law affects it. But it's good to listen, too. The professor is also a bit funny, which helps. His voice is not soothing, but he makes all the points clear. If you want to know more about criminal law, you won't get it from just listening to these tapes. You'll have to read casebooks and other supplements. I would recommend Examples and Explanations. I know I'll be listening to these tapes again.

Whitebread is an excellent instructor.
A little short but C Whitebread teaching and speech and organization of Material was just great. Excellent review, could not stop listening to it. Wish I had the money to go to USC. Thank you, Terry

waste of money
This is a recording of a single lecture in which Whitebread reviews all of criminal law in two hours. So, he simply states the black letter law, with little description or analysis. There is nothing on these tapes that you will not know from your classes or your textbook. I did not find it helpful.
