It protects siding, decks, shutters, portals, garden furniture, etc. The oil contains UV blockers and mold inhibitors. A finish with color pigments will give you better UV protection. The application is done with one layer. Once applied, it is then used as a maintenance product. If you have a lot of direct sunlight exposure, maintenance may be necessary yearly. What protector do I use over Rubio monocoat kitchen counter top ?

For countertops we suggest using our VOC free Monocoat 2C oil. This is a two component oil that is packaged with an accelerator. The accelerator helps the oil completely cure and become water resistant in 7 days. The oil is made of natural ingredients and is food safe. Once the 7 day cure period has passed, the finish is resistant to liquids. Some foods or liquids like mustard and red wine can stain the finish if they are left unattended for 12 hours or more. If you are finishing a countertop made of an exotic wood, like Ipe or Brazilian Cherry it is important to thoroughly wash the wood with Monocoat Raw Wood Cleaner prior to finishing. Once the 2 components are mixed, the mixture must be used within 5 or 6 hours. Partial amounts of the 2 components can be used. For instance, use 1/2 of the oil and 1/2 of the accelerator, then reseal the two in the original containers. The oil will keep about 18 months once the can is resealed. The accelerator will keep only 1 or 2 days once it is resealed. The oil can be used without the accelerator. The cure period of the oil alone is 3 weeks.
