When I first opened the can of the wipes, the towelettes felt dry to the touch. So I threw the first few towelettes away thinking they were not going to work. Then I realized that all of the towelettes felt the same way. So I used one to clean my AK, and it did a good job of cleaning up the carbon build up. It also left a light coating of lubricant on whatever surface it touched. The towelettes are pretty thick, and I think that they could easily be used for bore cleaning patches if cut to the right size. I will keep using them because so far they are doing a good job with cleaning and lubrication.

There are complaints about a foul odor the wipes have and yes mine do have an odd smell but I didn't find it overly offensive. The towelettes are somewhat dry when you first pull it out but after rubbing it on my 3030 riffle which I considered to be relatively clean, it was removing dirt and leaving a shine to the surface and appeared to get damper as if rubbing it was releasing the oils in it. In fact I then used the same towel on my AR15 and it really became dirty. Using it on the smooth surface of my 3030 it cleaned very well but my AR has a bit of a rough surface and the towel left some fine lint stuck to the metal which was easily removed with a micro fiber cloth. I bought these to give my guns a wipe down in the field after a day of shooting and I believe they will serve the purpose of removing finger print oil and powder residue but they are not a substitute for a good breakdown cleaning.

These wipes are perfect for wiping down guns that you have stored in a safe in order to help preserve them. They do a good job at applying a light coat of oil to them in order to prevent rust from forming.

These are a must have. Makes field cleaning quick and easy!
