Piercing at home
I originally purchased the 18g needles, but the hollow part was too small for my earring. Keep that in mind. Most earring studs are 18g, but you will need a 16g piercing needle. My third hole was previously pierced, but the back was closed up and I was able sanitize the needle, use sterile lubrication for jewelry and push it through with ease. Definitely not pain free, but the needle was easy to work with and did its job.

Works great
Works great. Used this for multiple home piercings. I’ve always done my own piercings and decided to be a bit more professional about it with real piercing needles! Love that they’re hollow so jewelry is easily inserted. Came sterile and ready to use!

A Couple Pointers… And They Work Well But How Well Depends on the Piercing
I will start with what will benefit all of you. First of all, they suggest that you put cork behind your ear (or behind any piercing where the end of the needle will go). I did not have cork but I did have plenty of styrofoam and that worked perfectly! I simply sterilized the styrofoam with alcohol and then saline solution before using it. In fact, I suggest styrofoam over cork because cork is a much harder material and you MUST go through part of the cork or styrofoam to get the needle completely through the piercing site because the needle is angled at the end - see the photo of just the end of the photo. In order to be successful, it makes sense to measure approximately how much skin/cartilage you must go through and how far into the styrofoam you need to go through in order to be successful. Then, use a sharpie to mark on the needle how far you need to go in. The second time I did the piercing, I really thought that the needle had easily gone through deeply enough. However, I could see by the sharpie that I needed to push the needle in more deeply so that’s what I did and it worked perfectly!🎉 So, now to talk about my tragus piercing. I was going to post photos of the actual piercing but I decided not to because in retrospect it would have been better to pay a pro to do my tragus piercing! The reason why is that It’s just such a small area that it must be in and it must be at the perfect angle and perfect placement to work well to change out earrings. Also, as you can see my the photo with the styrofoam, I had to go all the way through the styrofoam to be successful and if I went just a touch too far then I would go through the back of my ear!!! Yet, I couldn’t use thicker styrofoam because then the styrofoam would not fit inside my ear while I did the tragus piercing! Additionally, I couldn’t put the earring that I was using inside the hollow end of the needle for insertion afterward because the back of my ear blocked it so that it didn’t work. And since I couldn’t see the area well enough on my own it was too hard. I ended up putting in a 20g earring because that was all I could get through the piercing once I took the needle out. So, if you run into circumstances like mine, it’s always good to have different sizes of gauges on hand. I messed up the first time and went through skin, not cartilage, at an angle that was not right. The issue with this is that the body often rejects a piercing if done through just skin because it is looked upon the body as a foreign object that needs to be expelled. Additionally, I was not sure that the skin was thick enough to hold up earrings for years so I took the piercing out and immediately went in the same piercing hole but in the direction that was more correct and pierced again. I still wish that the angle was just a millimeter or so pointed out of my ear so that I could more easily change put in the earring backs or change out the piercing. After trying for an hour after piercing it just to put on the earring back, I awoke my husband at 2 AM to help me put on the backing. It worked out okay but the piercing will always now be at an angle where I can’t see it visibly when putting on the back, and the backing is in a place where it blocks my ear canal somewhat. So, bottom line, I would highly recommend these needles for just about any piercing except the tragus because too much finesse is needed to get it at exactly the right angle. I hope this information and photos helped you figure out what is best for you and I wish you a very positive piercing experience! You can do it! Before pushing the needle through, take a deep breath, focus on the angle and perfect placement that you want and push through. You’ll be fine.🌟
