The Rumi Collection: An Anthology of Translations of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi (Shambhala Classics)

This is actually my favorite Rumi collection I've found, Helminski is an amazing translator, and he includes many poems and passages translated by other people as well, so you get the best selection of translations chosen by a true expert. Touches me to tears sometimes, right in the heart of my deepest being, where only the truest of lovers can touch. Highly recommended.

As someone who is limited to reading Rumi in english, I know that transliteration from the original is very difficult, and I am appreciative of any efforts to illuminate the writings of this great teacher. That being said, in my reading, many of these poems seem flat, lacking the beauty, incisiveness, and spiritual depth of those translated by Coleman Barks (whose translations are also in this book, and sparkle in comparison).

I adore Rumi. I appreciate the work of Kabir Helminski. After reading a few poems, I get a sense of the voice of each translator, so that after reading the first 2 lines of any of these, I know who translated it. Some of these short verses are so ecstatic that they take my breath away and I have to put the book down and just let it in. This little book goes a long way. Ann C.

What a nice collection of astute poetry. It is the sort of writing that makes one think but entertains at the same time. There are ah ha moments throughout. This is my true first exposure of Rumi in depth and I am a huge fan!

I really wanted to like this book. I think that some of the translations were fairly accurate but missed certain things from his vocabulary by making the grammar a little to complex and technical. I think it would reAD better with more focus on simplicity.

This anthology of Rumi's poems is inspiring and moving. It's a book I often open at random, to be pleasantly surprised by the diversity of thoughts and the personal touch each translator has brought to these ancient poems. The book itself is a beauty, I love that it is a hardcover edition. It's a small book, that I can easily take with me whenever I travel. Beautiful!!

A beautifully designed and presented book, with thought-provoking translations of Rumi's work. The essays in the beginning on translating Rumi were a useful addition.

I enjoy reading Rumi's pithy wisdom sayings and this is a nice little (pocket sized) book with a lot of good content.
