

Alcotec 24-hour turbo yeast is a high alcohol and temperature tolerant dual function yeast complete with needed Nutrients. Yields 23 liters. Produces 14 percent alcohol in 24 hours. Review: Does the job - This stuff works very fast, albeit not in 24hrs as it is advertised. I"m assuming that under perfect conditions this yeast can ferment to 14%ABV in 24hrs, however I could not achieve this. That being said it is great for making mash used for moonshine (I've made about three batches of moonshine that have turned out very potent and relatively tasteless considering the crappy rig that I was using). Also, if you're interested in making wine or mead with this yeast, I would strongly recommend Lalvin D-47 or Red Star Montrachet yeast instead as they yield products that are excellent and much cleaner. This yeast produces lots of foam, and the "mash" is pretty gunky and should not by consumed on its own unless you purely want to get drunk and do not care about taste (I'm not judging). I've used this yeast to make Kilju (Finish sugar wine) and have to say that it does the job very quickly and will get you hammered about as efficiently as possible cost-wise. I cannot stress enough-- DONT USE FOR WINE OR MEAD!!! This yeast is only good for getting your hammered off Kilju or making moonshine, if you want a non-distilled beverage I would try the other yeasts I've recommended. Criticism aside, this is a great product. Review: Works fine at lower than reccomended quantities - I used about a third of this product in a 5 gallon batch of corn sugar based mash. I have had VERY aggressive fermenting over the last 48 hours. I plan to let it go for five days. I will update later to post results. I am sure folks that are getting the bad taste are using the entire packet. Its just not needed in my opinion. Update: As stated before I only used about a third of the packet. The activity completely subsided after four days. I can see how folks are getting a bad tasting or smelling brew with this yeast. When I opened the fermentation vessel there was a very strong sulfur smell. Not something I would want to try and drink at all. However if one were to distill the results one would probably have no issue with the smell, and the taste would be just fine I'm betting.

Overall great stuff as advertised as 24 hour
Got immediate results on my mash. Literally started working after 10 minutes. After just over two days ran and produced 92% using it. Overall great stuff as advertised. Also before running the mash did not smell bad as others said. Smelled fine and tasted a little like sweet champagne.

Having fun with Turbo
It's OK for what for what it does. It's not meant for beer or wine as some people have stated, and I could not even imagine drinking this as a wine. There is a video on Utube where a guy shows us how he makes this product at home in his trailer, and he does a good job, but he consumes it as a wine/mixer, he even mentions after a few drinks you won't really taste the yeast,totally gross, looks like a skim milk! This product is meant to ferment what are called sugar washes, which have no nutrients, so nutrients & minerals have been added to the package along with what I'd imagine is a distillers yeast which tolerate to high levels of alcohol & temperatures, possibly as high as 20%, fermenting at high temperatures, 95 degrees Fahrenheit or 30-35C as stated on the package. although I don't believe the product makes such a claim. The yeast itself will create it's own heat above that of your thermostat,and can easily tolerate 100 degrees Fahrenheit which is the highest I've ever run it. The higher the heat the faster the ferment, people claiming to reach 20% at 77 degrees in 3-4 days, aren't even bothering to read the products instructions,and the fermentation will slow dramatically to weeks not days, and can lead to infections and additional off tastes, so follow the directions. Also this product ferments violently, it is not meant to be used with a standard airlock, it will blow an airlock of a carboy. At the suggested rate of 6Kg sugar and 23L+ of water, it would barley fit in a common 6 gallon carboy, and the krausen will overflow the vessel almost immediately, so you need to find a larger vessel. What makes this product work is the extreme amount of yeast nutrient and minerals you're adding to your wash. the same results can be accomplished with a distillers yeast nutrients and minerals, for about a dollar, Vs. whatever they happen to charges for the turbo today. The turbo yeast is also a single part of a 3 part process, the Turbo yeast being only the first part. Secondly you'll need to clear the wash, the worst thing you can do is run a yeast filled wash through a still, as the yeast will explode during fermentation and make you're distillate taste terrible. So Turbo's are supposed to ferment fast, but if it takes 2 weeks for you wash to clear what good is it, certainly defeats the purpose of a fast ferment, so you must use clearing agent or turbo clear to clear the wash which typically work in a day or two. There are also activated carbon packs that further remove the yeast and off flavors from your wash which are recommended. So this is essentially a 3 part system, yet no one has mentioned any of this in the previous reviews, so thought I'd share what I know so everyone can get the best results with this product, as it can produce a decent ready to run wash in 6-7 days . The finished product will have what is known as a bite, so it's best to run it twice and cut with distilled water to proof, no carbon necessary. So although this product works it will not work alone, especially without a clearing agent, so even if it will ferment quickly, it clears slowly get the clearing agent, one packet will do over 50 liters. So get yourself a 70 liter Rubbermaid tub run the whole yeast pack with 25lbs of sugar and 55L of water at 35C then clear after 4-5 days. Leave the sediment yeast on the bottom of the tub, covered with some lees, most people don't know that a full package of this yeast even after being cleared can run another 25lbs of sugar wash in 4-5 days and produce the same results. Just be careful that the water you're adding to your tub isn't hotter than 95 degrees F it could kill the yeast it's a great way to learn and make a quick neutral spirit that you can enjoy in a next week. Look up DADY Fermax Citric acid epsom salts and make a turbo for a dollar..............have fun, hope this was helpful

worked great
can't beat the price and time. i made 5 gallons w/domino cane sugar and distilled water. yielded 15%, took about 48 hours at 77 degrees f. rigged up a small stainless teapot/copper tube/frozen 2liter water bottle. got 138 to 140 proof without much thought or time put into it.

almost expired, very slow fermentation.
this is the slowest yeast ive ever used, i dont think its the brands fault as many people have left great reviews. my package was close to expiration and was delivered in sub zero weather. if it was stored in a hot location it would also account for the dead yeast. it took over 5hr to activate and hasn't improved much in the last 12 hrs. i know its not the fault of my must as ive used the same recipe many times in the past. i made another batch and added bread yeast and its kicking more butt then the turbo. if it starts to ferment faster in the next few days ill change my review, but for a 24hr yeast its not doing to well. ill also update with final ABV. ---update--- after week it finally stopped fermenting. it took about 3 days for the living yeast to reproduce enough to make the must come to a full bubble. the ABV is about 20%. so the product is good but like i said the combination of expiration date and sub zero temps kill a lot of the yeast. upgrading rating to 3 star.

Woof it is great.
It works, just as fast as advertised. I have used it for beer, and just finishing a batch of honey mead. Only problem is it leaves the brew a little dry, and you have to add sugar and a tiny bit of regular yeast for carbonation at bottling.
