Good Starter Guitar
Here is what you need to know about me before you read the rest of my review: I am a pretty musical person. I play keyboards and ukulele, and decided that I would like to venture into the challenge of learning guitar. Also, you should know that I am visually impaired. I can see, but not very well at all. Kind of like Mr. Magoo. Here is everything that came in the box and what I think of it: 1. The Guitar: Beautiful color. I thought it was going to be a lighter blue color, but mine kind of looks purple, which is nice because that's my favorite color. I'm not sure if this was intentional or a mix-up at the factory, but I am content. There were a few dings in the finish, but that's OK with me. I'm not taking it out in public for performances any time soon. 2. The "gig bag:" I like the straps on the gig bag. You wear it like a backpack, which is handy, actually. Also, it has a pocket on the front where you can keep your extra strings, your tuner, and your picks, if you want. It's kinda cheaply made, but hey, I only paid $14.95 or something like that. I'm not complaining in the slightest. 3. Tuner: I was a little concerned when I saw that it would come with a tuner. I thought that it would be a visual display to help you tune the string. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the tuner in question was actually a pitch pipe, with six different pitches to blow, one for each string. Love that part of the deal! Wish I had one of these for my ukulele, but I'm not complaining. Strings: Ah, yes, well, here is the one flaw in this otherwise acceptable arrangement. I was tuning the G string when it snapped. The pitch was still too low, but the string just snapped. So I thought to myself, "OK, no big deal, I have a spare." Upone replacing that string and attempting to tune it, the replacement string snapped as well. I have since ordered a new set of strings, so that I'll just replace them all so I know what I'm dealing with. I only knew that the strings were steel and I didn't know the gage or anything else about them, so I'm just going to replace them all and then I'll know what I have next time one breaks. My overall opinion of this product is that it is a good guitar to start with, to learn on. It doesn't have to be perfect if you are just learning in the comfort of your own home or in the company of an instructor who isnt' going to look down on you or anything like that. If you are going to buy this product, I do highly reccommend that you buy a new set of strings, since there is no way to be sure what strings are already on the guitar. Thankfully, strings, even steel ones, can be pretty cheap. I got mine for $3. I also bought some extra picks, but that's nothing to do with the one that came with the guitar. Oh yeah, did I mention the kit only comes with one pick? You might also want to buy some extra picks just in case. I got a 12 pack of blue ones for $5 or thereabouts. But this is a good product, and it shipped out really fast, even with only standard shipping. I was happy about that. Happy playing!

Great beginning guitar
This is a very good buy for the money. I purchased the guitar as a Christmas gift for my 13 year old granddaughter. She has been playing it almost every day.

Good for practice, but not high quality for serious playing
Just received it — looks nice and comes with all the starter accessories. Sound is okay for beginners but not very rich or loud.

It's exactly as described
I was nervous after purchasing this and seeing if this was going to blow up in my face or not. I haven't played guitar since I was 8 years old and I didn't want to go in and spend a crazy amount on something that could and more than likely will just end up catching dust. This guitar comes with nylon strings -- many reviews says otherwise but I can assure you they come with nylon strings -- they're not amazing strings. My 5th string came with a little but of rust about 4 inches up from the bridge. The bridge is not reinforced with anything besides glue and hope. If you apply to much tension you will rip the bridge right off this guitar. Be smart and a use a tuner — there’s room for user error in this and if you want to just go super tight then you’re going to have a bad time I heard cracks and remembers it’s a $50 guitar package not just guitar. The extra strings did come individually wrapped and labeled in a nice plastic pouch. I kept the original string for 48 hours to allow them to stretch and see how they play. They're very tough on your fingers and I can make playing cumbersome. I visited a local music shop and purchased some nylon high tension chords with beads on the end and they've worked well on this instrument; not a lot of strain on the neck or body of this instrument ; the bridge hasn’t been ripped off and it keeps a tune much longer than the original strings. With the original guitar I was able to keep a tune for 1.5 hours and would have to retune after putting the guitar down and doing something else. With the new chords I have been able to be in tune for 48 hours and have no problem in keeping the guitar in tune. This guitar comes with no scratch plate, it’s a small feature that I know look back and wish I knew I wanted before purchasing- you can purchase separately but why not just buy something complete? If you are expecting to hit and knock your guitar THIS IS NOT the guitar for you. This guitar is a beginner guitar it’s meant to learn structure, rhythm and how to work with a guitar. It’s not meant to be hammered hard or pushed to a limit like a Yamaha or Gibson might have. Again I wouldn’t worry about bumping this guitar against the wall or dropping it off the bed or sofa; I would worry about it being punched and hit. Tuning the guitar with its original strings wasn’t as difficult as many people described it; I used an tuning app on my phone and was able to have all strings in tune in 3 minutes with that app. The tuner provided comes with a battery but I actually broke the backing to it as soon as I put the battery in so I guess that tells you how much that worked out for me. The travel bag is a nice place to keep all your things; your probably wouldn’t want this bag to travel in an airport; or a road trip. This is probably a stay in the room and keep everything consolidated type of thing. The capo has found home on the head of my guitar covering the BCP logo. It works well and sits snuggly atop of the frets. No complaints on the springs or the material that touches the chords. The picks are nice and I noticed a difference in thickness across some of the picks , silver being thinnest and blue being thickest. Would I recommend this purchase for someone just learning guitar or nervous about spending more money on a mod-level guitar that might take a longer time to learn how to play. This guitar is fun- it gives great sound, it’s whole and rich. Biggest take away- buy extra strings- buy a tuner winder - download a free tuner app on a local device - be prepared to buy another guitar in 2-4 months just because you’ll have so much fun playing this one you’ll out grow it and need to get an electric. BCP offers an electric acoustic I wish I checked that one out.

Sky Black Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar w/ accesories
I believe in writing thorough, detailed reviews for the items I purchase, good or bad. This one's gonna be bad. (I really like vonspyder's review, but I'm going to elaborate further.) I figured some people just don't know what to look for when buying a starter guitar, so I ignored the negative reviews and decided to give this one a try for myself. All things considered, I think either Sky Guitars has a real problem with quality control or some people really don't know anything about guitars....or both. I'm no expert by any means, but I have been studying guitars for about a year. Every chance I get, I google little details on every different guitar I hear about, see, or have the pleasure of a friend letting me play. I won't go into any of those details now, but let's just say that seriously, I have nothing good to say about this guitar. Keep in mind, I completely expected it to be CHEAP, I mean it was $40! I wasn't expecting a Gibson here, but I did expect it to at least be PLAYABLE. Now I've bought a $40 Rogue guitar from Amazon and I was really impressed, but this Sky guitar isn't even close in quality. It is advertised as a full size guitar. It's not, it's a 3/4 size. Even the body is small, which might be ok for a kid or a small girl. At first, I thought maybe I just got a bad one (which may be true), but the list of negatives totally outweigh the pros. Again, I'm no expert, but even an absolute novice can tell the difference between a decent guitar and crap, and this one is total crap from the beginning. The one I received had a huge chunk of wood missing from between the nut and the first fret. It was right where your finger should press down and form a note. That's what made mine UN-PLAYABLE right there. This was not damaged from shipment, it was well packaged and the box arrived undamaged. Upon closer inspection, someone tried to hide the missing chunk with with black touch up paint and shipped it out anyway. There was even some of that black paint on the string above the missing chunk. This one should have never left the factory. But the list goes on....the whole fretboard has so many lumps of only God knows what in the finish, it cannot be played smoothly. The fretboard should be smooth finished wood, but this was like a rough piece of plywood coated in black paint. Even the frets have black paint on the edges of all of them. The frets are uneven heights all along the fretboard and create horrible buzzing on any note played. Also each of the frets seemed to be covered in some kind of clear lacquer that flakes off all over the place which makes them even more rough and uneven, so you can forget about string bending. There is no truss rod, so the neck cannot be adjusted in any way. Bottom line, this is not a good guitar in any way, shape, or form. Even if you get your fingers to form a perfect chord, the sound is horrible. I bought this for my brother who wants to learn guitar and I will NOT give this to him. If you give this guitar for someone to "learn" on, I promise it will make them absolutely hate playing guitar! The only bright sides are: 1) I received it like 2 days even when I chose the slowest/cheapest shipping possible... 2) The seller did give me a no-questions-asked full refund (shipping included) and for this...the seller gets FIVE STARS! They didn't even ask for me to ship it back, just told me to dispose of it...which I will do. I'm thinking of doing a rock video and smashing it to pieces or lighting it on fire. Now let's talk about those accessories. Basically, they're all worthless...but since I'm reviewing, here we go. The bag fits a full size 41" dreadnought...I have one, I put it in there. But this guitar is 38" high and very narrow. The bag is too long and way too wide for such a small guitar...and lets face it, its just a dust cover anyway. It's so thin and cheap, it won't protect it from anything but dust. The pitch pipe will NOT help you tune it. Each of the pitches it produces are off, I checked it against an electronic tuner...some are sharp and some are flat, but not a single one were on pitch. The strings are really thin and cheap. I broke the high E just trying to tune it. The extra set seems just as cheap. The "pick" is like 3 times the size of a normal pick. I saw it and was like, WTF is THAT? Seriously, take a credit card, cut it in half, and that's about what you get. Unless your hands are the size of Shaquille O'Neal, it's not usable either. I really wish they had left those out and just made a better guitar. Oops, almost forgot the strap. I can't say anything bad about the strap. It's a basic strap, but it will fit the guitar. There is a button at the bottom of the guitar to attach it to, but no button at the top. This is not uncommon on inexpensive guitars, you just tie it around the neck above the nut with the provided piece of string. But seriously...if you want a cheap, starter guitar, don't bother with this one. It really does suck monkey balls. If you read this review and still want to buy this, please consider taking that $40 and hiring a homeless person to kick you as hard as he can in the nuts. I promise you'll feel better at the end of the day! :-)
