Works well but read instructions carefully
The stove I inherited from the previous tenant died a while ago, and my landlord doesn't repace appliances, so I was cooking with a beat up hotplate from a charity shop. The element in the main burner stopped working, so I found this reasonably priced ($19) Proctor Silex one. I like to buy U.S.-made products but who knows if it was made here, right? (It's delivered by UPS.) It's a bit flimsy, but I've cooked all kinds of things for a week, now, and it functions well. One burner is 1000 watts, the other is 1100 watts. The instructions say not to use other high wattage things on the same circuit when you're cooking. And not to use more than 60 minutes within a 2-hr period. Maybe it will overheat the element? It has a very short cord, apparently so you avoid tripping on it, but that means you need to put this near a plug at the same height as the hotplate, but not closer than 4 inches to anything else. I barely reached my plug. (BTW, the old stove is disconnected.) There are no temp settings, so you have to figure out how far up to turn the knob for whatever you're cooking. If you start halfway and gradually increase, you're less likely to burn the food. See my video.

Worked great for 1-1/2 years
Worked great for first 18 months and now it turns off and on while trying to cook something that takes more than a couple minutes. Buy the warranty!

Boils great!
We unplugged the stove to save on electricity during the summer when we cook so much less. Works great! Boils fast, and we have no complaints!

Lasted just over a year.
A bit disappointed. I purchased this Jul 16, 2024. I was only using occasionally for my cooking show. When not in use, I stored it in its original box with styrofoam. Clearly you can see it is in mint condition. For the last month I have been using it more than at any other time. A day ago, (as often stated here by others), use it too much and it will shut down to cool down. The next day, was using it and it just stopped working all together. The indicator light comes on but the element will not heat up. It is such a shame. I will not purchase another one if it is only going to last a year or so. If I had known, I would have purchased the extended warranty.

Weak heat for diverse cooking.
Not strong enough heat for cooking. It is good to keep a kettle on it and keep the water hot for tea or coffee but if you want to fry or boil water for rice it is too weak.

Why this one?
For years I had wanted to need one of those way cool induction cook tops. Now finally, there was a need, but when I read the 1s and 2s reviews, this was the no-brainer choice for me. The complaints were that the induction cook tops only have @ 3.5" heating surface, and I needed to be able to cook my 2 eggs over easy just right. This has over 5" of heat coil, tried and true technology, and does the job nicely. Plus, the price is incredible, and it heats and cools quickly. The thing they conveniently forget to tell you about the induction cook top is that as the pot heats on it, the pot heats the glass surface as well, so it becomes very hot. My experience is that glass holds its heat. When is someone likely to be accidentally burned? Before putting on the pot or after taking it off? One need only remember to turn on the heat after putting on the pot in order to be adequately safe. The knob turns easily, so one must get into the habit of checking it is off before plugging the unit in.

Item went bust on first use, stove plates broke after heating for a few minutes. Could not return as would cost over $200 AUD to send back, seller unresponsive to Aus return label request.
