Fantasy Mapping: Drawing Worlds

I like to just doodle and create my own maps. Often inspired by films I'm watching, or childhood memories. This book provides great instruction on how to create all the details that make for an awesome believable map. I wish he provided a variety of styles for the map components but you can easily flip to the finished maps section for more inspiration.

This arrived quickly. The quality is good and it is just as described. I'd definitely buy from them again.

One of the best books out there.

It has a nice layout and is a good place to learn how to plan out your fantasy map. Maybe could use more content but it is set up orderly and it will come in handy for my map I'm creating no doubt. I also wish they had a hard cover but I was happy to see it was the same length and width as my D&D books. Very good art in it too. Enjoyed reading this one and it will be referenced in the future.

Probably good for some people. If you have Pinterest, you'd be better off looking through maps there. Take what you like. This book was very basic. Probably should have been titled, "VERY basic Fantasy Mapping: Drawing Worlds with Tilted Cs, Ms, and Squiggly Lines" this is the best book I've purchased on the topic so far.

This is just what I was looking for to create my maps for my fantasy world. I tried so many other map-making books, but they seemed to be directed at other needs. This one fits my novel world perfectly. I was hesitant at the price, but it was worth it. Thank you!

When I was a kid, I had a lot of fantasy books. All of my favourite ones had a map that I would study it really throughly. Turning the pages of this book brings me back to those days of travelling imaginary worlds, except this time I am also offered a chance to create my own world. I also really appreciated the chapters that provide you with some important foundational knowledge, like the basics of geography and colour theory. I found myself reading the entire thing cover to cover in one sitting and then running to find my colouring pencils so that I could try some of the ideas for myself. The author lays out the lessons in a really easy to follow method; putting the pieces together at a rate that isn't overwhelming but also doesn't have you sighing and skipping ahead. It strikes a perfect balance of making maps that look good, but also maps that look plausible -- in the sense that these worlds could exist, and that these maps could be made by someone living within them. By the end of it, you have a real grasp on what makes or breaks a map -- why our imagination is captured by some, and we're like "yeah, right" at others. If you'e ever had an interest in map-making for a game, a book, or just because you wanted to (or because you need to hide treasure) you'll really enjoy this and will probably learn a lot. At the very least, I've never seen someone put it all together like this.

What’s great about this is that it makes you think about actual geography too.

Sehr gut und übersichtlich erklärt, gut verständlich auch für Kinder (mein Sohn ist 11), obwohl in Englisch. Definitiv empfehlenswert. (hatte es zwar bestellt, weil ein von allen weiterempfohlenes Buch nicht lieferber war, aber dieses Buch ist top!)

If you've already managed to doodle a map somewhere, (no matter how awful you think it is), you probably dont need this book. Some basic information on the first half dozen pages, quickly covering some rudimentary geography, other than that, there's little of real value in this book I'm afraid. The information and drawing style is very basic, uninspiring and childish. Probably decent for an absolute beginner, but to anyone else I would just look at a few maps on Pinterest, you'll learn a lot more.

Durch das fehlende Hardcover fühlt es sich nicht so wertig an. Der Inhalt ist gut aber ich hätte mehr Schritt für Schritt Anleitungen für verschiedene Kartenstile erhofft
