An impressive offering
Impressed with this little guy. Cordless. Deceptively powerful. Cuts through 1x like butter. Not too heavy or cumbersome to operate one-handed at least in short spurts. Easy to adjust depth. The 1" cut depth might be a negative to some as some of the competition cuts deeper, but the overall quality makes up for this. Makita picked the perfect blade diameter (3 3/8") to keep the saw easy to manuever. Well designed ergonomic grips make it easy to maintain control. Kickbacks are pretty easy to control. The kit is a great value because you get the saw, blade, two batteries, charger and case. I like the battery check feature on the battery itself so you always know how much juice you have left. Battery life is excellent so far. Probably not something you will use every day, but I can see it coming in handy for getting into tight spaces or cutting small lumber or drywall. Highly recommend!

Great little saw
This is a great little saw for small jobs that you don't want to break out the big guns. Battery life is good, blade is sharp.

Very lite and good for a quick cut.
I used the 9.6v model from 1987 to 1996 five days a week cutting out grout doing tile repair. It always performed well on grout but strained it self on wood. My 9.6v Nicad batteries finally wore out and were too pricey to repurchase and I stopped doing tile repair so I wasn’t using it as much. Now years later this 12v model I just purchased performs very well on 3/4” wood. It seems to have the same rotation speed but extra strength to keep going through the wood. I only have used it very little so far but it seems like it will be better then it’s predecessor. I like it for plumbing repair. To access a pipe in the wall I’ve been using a key hole saw. A saw with a long pointed blade and large teeth. You have to be careful not to cut into pipes or electrical wires with a push and pull type of hand saw but with the 12v Mikita circular saw I set my depth to the drywall thickness and I’m able to cut anywhere without worrying about cutting through wires or the new type of plastic plumbing pipes. I tried it on a 2x4 for kicks. It cuts fine but you have to cut through both sides since it’s cutting depth is about an inch. The kit comes with two batteries, charger and a carbide tipped wood saw blade. When cutting through drywall you get a cleaner cut than with a hand saw and about the same amount of dust. This saw is going to make my work much easier and faster.

Nice saw
This is a nice little saw. Much easier to use one-handed than the regular sized saws.

Very useful for remodeling projects
I am doing my 3rd bathroom gutting and remodeling, and wished I had a tool like this on my previous 2 projects. So far it's worked awesome to cut through my linoleum and 1/4" plywood substrate, which I could then pull up easily in sections. Also good for cutting clean lines in the drywall around tiling, cutting baseboard molding and quarter round, etc. The blade speed is not that fast, helps keep the saw controllable and fairly quiet... you can use it with one hand... kick back is less scary than with a real deal circular saw. If you're doing plunge cuts, make sure you get the blade up to speed first. I still occasionally need the dremel multi max oscillating tool for flush cuts, like the bottom of door jams. This has a lot more power though for everything else. Real nice not having another cord to manage. The build quality is not too bad...blade guard is plastic and the knobs for adjusting depth of cut and angle are plastic. Would like to see a little more metal. Also, I'd pay a little more to get a kit with at least one 4.0 amp hour battery. The 2.0 do charge fast though. One last thing, it IS possible to cut with your right hand, and look down from off to the left of the saw, and sight the blade and your cut. I was concerned about this, but there is a cut out that lets you see the blade. An led light would help even more. I paid $130, and would gladly pay $150 to get an LED light and/or 1 4.0 amp hour battery in the kit. Still a great tool though, I'm sure I'll get tons of use out of it.

Dynamite little Saw!
I bought this for thin plywood but it cuts 3/4" no problem. I doubt it would hold up long for that kind of work but the capability for thicker wood is there if you need it in a pinch or for small projects. Very light and easy to control. I love it!

Lovin the Makita 12V Max CXT tool line.... Keep'em coming Makita
I can't say enough about the Makita 12V Max CXT line of power tools. I own several tools in this line (drill/driver, impact driver, muilti-tool and now this), and the build quality and performance of these tools are second to none, and perfect for my home owner/DYI'er needs (95% of the time). I bought all of my 12V Max CXT tools via Amazon Warehouse. They seem to have a lot of returns of the bare tools (customers not understanding what "bare tool" means). Each tool has been complete and in perfect condition and I've saved about 20% on average. I just received this tool, so the review is based on my initial impression. Build quality is excellent, and on par with any professional grade tool. Performance is good; when I first inserted the battery and pulled the trigger I was underwhelmed, then I grabbed a piece of scrap wood (brick molding, 1 1/4" thick it think) and started making cuts. It cut like a hot knife through butter (with the brand new included blade of course). Included is a wood cutting blade and hex wrench that stores on board and is required to change the blade. It's rated to cut up to 1" think and it did leave about 1/32" of wood uncut on my scrap piece of 1 1/4", but still acceptable for a rough cut in a pinch.

Pro : -Very compact -Batteries will last for multiple cuts Cons : -The minimum angle i get is not make a straight cut, it is at a slight negative angle, around 5 degrees off, so I have to do multiple cuts to adjust it right. If you have to change the cut angle frequently, it might be frustrating.

..enough to cut thru up to 2.5cm (1 inch) thick wood. Very much liking it.
