Yup, this works for it's intended purpose. Never, never use cheap no-name climbing gear. You're literally betting your life on it working. IDK about you, but my life is worth it.

It is the best belay device for climbing. The descent is smooth and it is very easy and intuitive to use. Gives extra security and comfort when climbing. The materials look very strong. Even the plastic looks very strong. Definitely a great product from Black Diamond

I'm a rock climber. In my experience, Black Diamond equipment is *ALWAYS* reliable. I've used this ATC for rappelling and it performed great. The teeth on the inside provide a nice amount of bite, which will take some strain away from whichever hand you're using to feed the rope. For belaying, I prefer to use a Grigri, so I haven't used this ATC for belaying. It comes with a large carabiner that is great for belaying and rappelling, I chose this package over a standalone ATC because it came with a very nice carabiner, and for the price it was a no-brainer. I'd highly recommend this ATC/carabiner combo.

It's the ATC, it gets some hate these days cause it doesn't have assisted braking, but it's good value for the money. IMO, realistically you should just spend the extra 10 or so bucks and buy an ATC Guide if you are really into climbing so that you can use it as a belay from above device if you drop your primary belay device (or only want to bring one device). Solid option for belay and rappel, but just buy an ATC Guide! Otherwise you will have this and a guide and never use this (ask me how I know).

I love this device because it’s so simple and easy to use. It’s clear where the where the brake side is and it’s not too heavy.

Das Abseilgerät war gut verpackt und wurde schnell geliefert. Ich benutze es hauptsächlich für die schweizer Abseilmethode oder zum schnellen Abseilen auf meinen Bergtouren. Das Abseilgerät ist sehr robust gebaut und hat mich bisher nie im Stich gelassen. Die Bremswirkung ist hervorragend und das Handling wirklich einfach. Man erhält bekannte Black Diamond Qualität zum angemessenen Preis. Das Produkt muss sich vor keinem anderen Hersteller verstecken. Ich würde das Abseilgerät jederzeit wieder bestellen.

A really, really good bit of kit. Easy to use as belay or abseil. Warm in the hand in cold or wet weather, and front lip / channel keeps your rope running in a predictable and smooth way. In my opinion better than a grigri and easier to use.

Ein sehr gutes sicherungsgerät für denjenigen, der das Bremshandprinzip beherrscht und eigene schwächen nicht mit einem automatik Gerät ausgleichen muss. Der Seildurchlauf sowie im Top Rope wie auch Vorstieg ist hervorragend. Die Form und das Handling des Gerätes ist perfekt geeignet um Vorstieg zu sichern. Im Falle eines Sturzes ermöglicht es ein sehr sanftes abfangen des Sturzes. Das Gerät blockiert nicht so brutal wie manch andere. Nochmal: das Bremshandprinzip sollte sicher beherrscht werden. Dann benötigt das Gerät keine Kraft um einen Sturz zu halten. Wer die Hand aber zu weit oben hat und sich nicht sicher ist, sollte vielleicht lieber ein grigri oder andere Geräte in Betracht ziehen. Aber auch hier muss zwingend eine Einweisung und ein sicherer Umgang mit dem Gerät erlernt werden. Die Sicherheit beim Klettern hängt zu 100% vom Mensch ab. Die Geräte sind heute mittlerweile alle sicher genug um nicht mehr als Gefahrenquelle zu dienen.
