Good Buy as an Entry-Level Product
This is my first purchase of any type of smartwatch, specifically a fitness tracker. I am not one to go off with the latest trends and fads in electronics (I've had my LG Stylo 6 for four years, now, and am very happy with it). I also read the user reviews AND publicly-posted reviews on any purchase over $100. Based on these reviews and the price point, I decided to purchase the Amazfit Bip U unit. It says 'Designed by Huami" and is 'Model A 2017'. NOTE: This is not a 'Bip U Pro'. The 'Pro" is a different iteration. You can review that on your own. Also, I'm not a 'buy the latest gizmo and maybe use it whenever guy'. I moved into a really nice new apt. complex in Philly with this amazingly-equipped gym (NOT a workout room...a GYM). At 66 y/o, I have decided to get into better shape, so I'm doing target heart rate cardio 6x/wk (40-60 minutes) and dumbbell resistance 3x/wk (30 minutes HIIT). After three months, I decided that this wasn't just a fad for me, and wanted to track my cardio more closely, thus the purchase of the Amazfit Bip U. Based on the reviews of the many different products on the market and the WILDLY-varying price points, I must say that my Bip U is a pretty good buy. Things I think you should know: It won't monitor your Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, or diagnose A-Fib or V-Tach. Those features come with much higher price tags. Make sure that you install the HUAMI AMAZFIT BIP U APP on your phone, there are a few other non-canon 'Amazfits' out there which will cause your head to explode. It's NOT Waterproof. Don't believe the ads. (I know a guy at a test lab). You shouldn't swim or shower with it on. This is not a big deal for me, but seems to be a deal-breaker for a lot of people. Be advised that a shower/swim/sauna compatible instrument will be at a MUCH higher price point, well over $125... possibly even $126. I have fairly sensitive skin and sometimes get a rash from my other leather/metal watch bands. I have had NO DERMATOLOGICAL ISSUES with the "cheap silicone band' (another reviewer's words, not mine) that comes with this watch. That's the whole point of silicone anyway, right? Completely neutral non-interactive substance. The User's Manual is a joke. Install the correct APP and spend a few days playing around with the settings under various real-world circumstances, especially sleeping, and you'll get a good feel for what this gizmo can do for you. Bottom line: If ya don't like it, send it back! Always save the box anything from Amazon comes in.

Very Statisfied
I received the Amazfit Bip U about 3 weeks ago and have been wearing it continuously since. Except to shower of course. I have been impressed with several features of this device. I will cover my impressions so far. The first item is the out of box experience and first set up. The watch comes packaged nicely in a box and well protected. Along with the watch is the magnetic charging cord and set up guide. As others have mentioned the set up guide is very sparse but, the explanation on how to connect your watch via blue tooth is sufficient. The guide instructs you to scan the QR code to download the ZEPP app. I would recommend you go to the app store for your phone and search for the app and download it that way. For me scanning the QR code took me to the web version of the Google Play store rather than using the Play Store app on my phone. It is easier to use the app instead of the web version. After downloading and installation of the app I was able to get the watch and phone sync'd without issue. The next step was a bit confusing for me as a QR code come up on the watch display with instructions to scan the code to download the ZEPP app, which I just did. Eventually I tried scanning the code displayed on the watch which then completed the pairing of the watch and phone. And all was well. This is the point where the setup guide ends, no instructions on how to use the features of the phone or app are given. That is a bit disappointing because the user is left to figure out how to access the features on the watch. Which there are many. I have discovered that pushing the button on the side of the watch can be easier for navigation than trying to swipe across the screen. The screen swipes could be more responsive as it does not always recognize when you swipe across the screen. Using a combination of swipes and button presses will make navigation easier. As far as accuracy of the features I am very satisfied. The steps count do not always agree with the Google Fit App or the treadmill at the gym. But the counts are close enough for me. The difference between what the treadmill reports for distance varies only about 2 tenths of a mile when compared to the watch. SP02 and Heart Rate have been for me very accurate as compared to a medical grade pulse oximeter we use where I work (medical facility). I use only the workout routines for treadmill and weight training so I can not speak to the accuracy of the other routines the watch can monitor. Sleep tracking seems fairly accurate but tends to have me waking up earlier than I actually do. Accuracy is improved if you turn on Sleep Assistant in the app. Stress measurement seems about right at least comparing to what I think at the time. But I have no way to compare against any other measuring device for sleep or stress. Battery life has exceeded the 9 days advertised. Since I have owned the watch I have charged it twice, once after receiving it and one other time about 10 days later. So far it has been 12 days since last charge and the watch still has 22% left. I do use the device for notifications for text, phone calls and calendar. The notifications work well and consistently. A quirk about calendar notifications: for some reason the device notification does not show the subject of the calendar notice only the word Calendar and the time of the meeting. I discovered that if you set up your appointment with a location (I use the subject for the location) such as a calendar subject of Staff Meeting and a location of Staff Meeting, the watch will display the location line. Hopefully, that will be addressed in a future update. So bottom line: I like the ZEPP app it is fairly easy to navigate and provides a wealth of information with explanations on the various subjects it monitors. The battery life and accuracy of the various measurements have exceeded my expectations. There are many watch faces to choose from for customizing your watch. The watch fits my wrist nicely (small wrists) and is very comfortable to wear. I would definitely recommend this product as the cost of the device and the value to performance in my opinion is great!

Good and Bad
I've had this watch for 18 months and overall I've been pleased with it's performance. Looks-wise it's comfortable, a good size for my smaller wrists, and people are always asking me if it's an apple watch. After 18 months the battery life is deteriorating. I used to be able to wear this all week, charge on Sundays and wear again all week. Now after charging on Sunday and not wearing it, I put it on Monday morning and it's down to 86%. I charge it about every 3-4 days now. It's never been spot on with my friend's apple watch when it comes to distance tracking. Sometimes it's off by a mile, sometimes a 10th of a mile, so it's not super consistent, but still most of the time within range of correct so that's not that big of a deal unless you're an avid runner. I do have to open the app for it to sync location before I can walk/jog, which is annoying, but still nothing too bad. So overall a good little watch, but I'll probably have to get a newer one by this time next year. Disappointing, but I'll want an upgrade by then anyway. Good watch for the price and easy to find band options to change for styles/color schemes.

Bip U is a great upgrade from my Bip. A lot more features and measurements. I chose the Bip U without GPS rather than the Bip U Pro because I just thought that the watch might be better without and I always have my iPhone with me and keep it Bluetooth synced. Activity tracking is excellent. I like the all day heart rate monitoring and the PAI (Personal Activity Index) which combines all measurements and body data. The Zepp app is also an impressive improvement to the MiFit app. A lot of info on home page. Touch the screen to see detailed charts for each such at heart rate for the day, sleep, etc. and add manual data for weight and body measurements.. You can start any activity from the watch and sync later but when I start activities from the phone and have the Zepp app open the phone gives me audio updates for pace and heart rate. Phone screen shows a map with your cycling or walking route.. I haven't tried it yet when out of cell range so I don't know if the map stays active on out-of-range hikes/rides or if it drops the map to sync later. I use a medium bright screen, at least 1 hour specific activity tracking per day, HR every minute, constant step monitoring, continuous blue tooth sync with phone app, notifications from the phone and I have almost all other features turned on so I likely use maximum power. I'm charging about every 5 days when it's still at 20% or more. The watch is light enough but I find that I notice a bit of pressure from the raised sensor area on the back. A trade off because the sensors are more accurate that way by design. Not a deal breaker for me. I wear the watch 24/7 with one night a week off the wrist for the skin to breath a bit more. The on-line, downloadable guide is OK to get started but left me with a lot of questions as I got to know the watch better and started to fine tune settings. I haven't found a guide or tip-and-tricks for the Zepp app (which I love) likely because it's so new. Impressive value for price with the critical selling points for me being: features, thin square face and battery time vs others. Overall . . . Great Watch & App . . . Love it.
