SmartGrip Litter Mat - A Winner!
Money is tight, so I thought hard about purchase. I read the reviews, thought about it many times, and was encouraged to give it a try.I had to move the litter box to another location and litter scatter was a chore I dreaded. The mat has been in use for a few days now, in our multi-cat sanctuary, and normally, I wouldn't review a product so early, but this mat is doing the job! I haven't found one single stray litter kernel anywhere! (If some sticks in the cat's paw, I may find some yet somewhere...)The PROS: It is really easy to clean with the vacuum and wipe up any stray stains with a damp cloth. (one cat stepped in some food and tracked it onto the mat) I simply use the hose end to vacuum up the litter when I go in to scoop. (The instructions say NOT to use the beater brush..and yes, you could damage this mat that way I'm sure!) I haven't tried my hand-held vacuum, but I don't see any reason why it won't work as well. I can shake the litter easily back into the box as well. The mat is light-weight enough to handle easily, yet stays put in place... even with cats jumping out of the box onto it. The litter mat is positioned in front of a HUGE enclosed box, and a couple cats jump out of the opening. (I'm using a large dog crate with a humongous new litter box inside. The mat is large enough to catch their landing and catch all the litter they bring with them! Previously, I simply used newspapers. There was still always litter tracked everywhere and I hated the look. I think this mat works great with the enclosure, since they are forced to come out one side. Unless you have a small litter box (which isn't great for normal sized cats even..unless there's a health issue of some sort) and you have a jumper or kicker or two, there still may be some scatter outside the mat area in an open-box scenario. The set up here so far is working perfectly. If you have an open box, my advice would be to note the size of the mat on the sales page and determine how much of the mat is left after you have your box on it. If your cat isn't prone to just stepping out of the box onto the floor space around it, you may have to order more than one to catch everything. Again, the enclosed box here allows me to use the entire mat in front of the box.The cats aren't scratching the mat as I'd feared, but I have two scratch posts right next to the litter box. They even enjoy lying on the mat to repose and dream their whacky kitty thoughts from time to time -- or take a snooze. The color looks pretty true to what I saw on my screen..I ordered the beige and it is a nice neutral color with an attractive pattern that doesn't scream..'HEY LOOK! I'm a kitty mat collecting kitty toilet debris!' :) Since this box is out in the open..that's an important consideration here. It makes the whole, unhappy circumstance (of having to move the boxes to the new, more 'viewable' location) a bit easier to take.I don't know how well it will all hold up - it looks to be quite well made - and I will take care in cleaning and maintaining it. But so far, this little workhorse gets a Huge PAWS UP here. The Cons: The price. It is money well spent so far...but the squeeze on the pocket book is tough. But compared to what is being charged for other type mats that are far smaller and less effective, this may well be the best expenditure for an item of this type you can make. The mat was delivered ahead of time slightly, was well packaged and had no odor, which I also feared. This purchase has been a WINNER all round! I'm Purr-fectly pleased -- and may start purring myself if this keeps up! I would recommend this mat and this company highly based on this first purchase with them.Litter boxes and adjunct issues are no fun. The initial reaction to seeing this mat work so well put a bit of 'spice' back into life (like a catnip feeling - if I had the DNA) in that it saves work and frustration. And if this weren't a 24/7 sanctuary, maybe even a little more time to 'play'. :)To avoid disappointment, think about your cats' habits, size up the mat vs. litter box size and how you plan on using the mat. I appreciate others taking the time to write about their experiences and solutions (and it takes more time than you expect to do it right for others) and hope this, along with the thoughts of others, may serve to help you make a good decision on spending dollars that are ever so scarce for so many.

My kitty LOVES this mat!
Several weeks ago, I bought this and a different litter mat for my kitty at the same time. I put the other one down first, in the bathtub where I keep her box. I was saving this one to use with the Merry Pet Cat Washroom (when I get around to putting it together) because this one seemed like it would be more stylish to have in the open where people would be able to see it. So I left this mat in my mudroom, not for the cat, but because it was a convenient place to leave it until I was ready to use it. As for the mat I'd put by her box, my cat didn't mind it, but it wasn't spectacular. She didn't mind walking on it and it marginally worked. Then yesterday, I saw her in the mudroom going to town on this PetFusion mat, scratching and kneading, looking pleased. "Well, hey!," I thought, "if she likes this one that much, maybe I should swap it out for the one I've been using," so I did. And the moment she jumped into the tub after I put it down, she started happily scratching it and then, while I talked to her, she sat on it contentedly with her eyes half-closed. Normally when I talk to her, she comes over to me. But she didn't want to get off the mat! Now, I only just put this mat down, so I have no idea how well it's going to keep litter from tracking or hold up long-term. I read other reviews that said pee will leave stains on it that are nearly impossile to get all the way out and I suspect that's true, but my cat uses her litterbox faithfully so I'm not too worried about that. But each time she digs her claws into it, it leaves visible holes. The material feels like the same spongey, rubbery material that grid/gripper drawer liners are made from, so I can already see it's going to start looking beat up quickly, because the holes are obvious from a distance and there are already a few dozen all over the mat.But here's the thing: anything that makes my cat ENJOY being by her litterbox is a REALLY good thing in my book. I always try to make sure she has only positive experiences by her box, and she definitely sees this mat as a positive experience. So as far as I'm concerned, she can rip this to mat shreds if she wants, I won't care. Anything that helps pull her attention away from clawing the furniture and encourages her to use her box instead of getting the idea to start peeing around the house is a fantastic product, in my opinion, so we both love this mat!But for buyers who are specifically looking for an attractive mat to use in a location visitors see each time they walk into your house, here's a caveat: be aware that if your kitty likes to scratch this, it isn't going to stay looking beautiful and pristine for long. This is a great mat, but if you need something really stylish to use in a high-traffic location, this may not be the right mat for that spot. (Let's face it, none of us WANTS to have a litterbox in our living room or dining room or bedroom, but if we happen to have a kitty who's decided that's where they're going to pee, we don't have much choice. We've got to keep a box there.) So it all depends on whether your cat decides to scratch it or not, or pee on it. But if you have a box in an inconspicuous spot, I think both you and your cat will like this mat a lot.

Rubbish - cats shredded it in days
This mat seemed like quite a good idea, the lightly textured surface is supposed to help capture cat litter, which it does to a very limited extent. However, the cats love the texture as a scratching mat - which they promptly destroyed. This thing was shredded to destruction in less than a week. I suspect this was developed and tested with the poor unfortunate US cats that have been de-clawed.

What a bargain.
I was pleased to find that the mat was too large for the small area needed, so I cut off an excess rectangle and I now have a very comfortable patch to stand on as I 'm on the hard wood floor of my kitchen washing up.It's beautifully light, springy but with depth and cuts to size easily.Quite importantly, puss is perfectly happy with it too, not that she's concerned about how I keep it clean.

Depends on a cat !
It looks nice and is the thickness and feel of a yoga mat material pretty much. But if your cat has sharp claws and strong paws and a habit to “bury the evidence” by scratching outside the litter tray - the matt will get holes very quickly- mine did after 3 days

A must buy for messy pets
I have a cat who's paws are partially paralysed and he makes one hell of a mess when coming out of the litter tray. I use clumping cat litter and this mat is great for making sure none of it makes it onto my floors or carpets. It is really big, a nice design and easy to clean. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend for people with messy pets!

Great buy
Would recommend this to anyone. I used to find litter in grooves of my couch, which was quite disgusting. But now the litter really adheres to the mat and stops my cat trailing it through the house. Couple this with a small handheld vaccuum and you can keep your cats litter tray area immaculate and more importantly keeps the litter from trailing around the house. Would consider this an almost essential buy for anyone looking to buy a cat ( that is concerned about hygiene)
