Q: Are these brushes synthetic or animal hair?

They are a mix of natural squirrel hair and synthetic fibers. Squirrel allows it to hold a lot of water and pigment and the synthetic fibers give it more spring and bounce than squirrel alone, even a mimic faux squirrel brush which can be a bit soft and floppy. These brushes are fantastic, a perfect mix that makes them a joy to use.

Q: What kind of packaging does it come in ? Do they come in protective packaging ?

The brushes come packaged in a clear plastic bag shown in the picture. We do not know if Amazon provides extra protection during shipping.

Q: How are these brushes for gouache?

I actually haven’t personally used them for gouache, but the brush holds tons of watercolor pigment so I would expect they would work great!

Q: Do these brushes have a good spring?

Hi Maddie,The Black Velvet® series brushes found in the Susan Louise Moyer set have spring in that they maintain their shape, but their best features are their wonderful absorbency and great color control
