OK ... So I waited several months before writing a review. Initial thoughts ... Ember does a Great job keeping your coffee hot! Certainly much better job than some of the inexpensive options (e.g. better than Brookstone per my personal experience). Definitely keeps me from having to reheat coffee in the microwave every 10min ... HOWEVER, the Ember does not solve for one of my key challenges. I tend to drink coffee with Cream & Sugar. And when you re-heat creamy coffee, it tends to burn a layer of milk that sits on the surface (it's terrible ... ruins a good cup of coffee when you drink that muck by accident). And sadly, because the Ember does such a good job keeping coffee hot ... this same phenomenon tends to happen. And more specifically, it tends to happen if you leave those last few sips sit too long (tends to super heat a bit as you get to the bottom of your mug). I'm thinking I could probably try to adjust the Temp setting as I get to the bottom ... but I rarely remember to do that. So all said, Great mug ... but not Perfect. And yes, for the record ... app still kinda stinks. Doesn't happen all the time, but mug often loses Bluetooth sync.

I ordered the Ember and read the reviews after ordering. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the negative stuff in reviews. I don't usually write reviews, but I like this product so much, I thought I'd give my input to help others out. -I work from a home office and found that my coffee tea gets cold before I finish it because I take my time while working. -It is even better than I expected to have drinks stay at the temperature I want. With the app, you can adjust the heat to the way you like it. The last sip is as good as the first. -I didn't have any trouble setting up the cup and app. I followed some guy's advice in the reviews to make sure the cup is fully charged before setting up the app and followed the instructions. That worked great for me. -I haven't had any of the issues some seem to have had with the Bluetooth disconnecting (I use and iPhone mini). It's been very solid. Twice in the first two weeks, it seemed to not be heating though it said it was connected. I simply turned off the heater through the app and turned it on again both times and it worked fine. -There's some talk about not getting the charging stand wet. I am careful with that, making sure that I haven't sloshed and gotten the bottom of the cup wet. Not a big deal at all to pay attention to that. I don't walk around with normal mugs wet on the bottom anyway. -One review I read complained about the length of time the mug holds a charge. I generally, sit it on the charger by my workstation, so it's always charging. If you do that, no problem with charge. A few times I've taken the mug other places in the house. It easily goes 1.5 hours and my guess is it'd approach ~2 hours, maybe a bit more. That's plenty long for me. And I can recharge it and use again later. It's definitely no iPhone in terms of battery life, but works for what I do. If you expect it to keep something warm for 8 hours, I don't think it'll do that. -It's a very solid-feeling mug that's got a really nice feel. Good heft, some sort of traction rubber on the bottom so it stays put where you set it down. -I was hesitant reading some of the negative reviews relative to the price. I am 100% happy with this purchase. One of the best things I've gotten recently and makes a fun difference in my days. Highly recommend it.

Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug 2, 10 Oz, App-Controlled Heated Coffee Mug with 80 Min Battery Life and Improved Design, Stainless Steel ($138.99) This was ordered as a gift for my husband. He loved it and has been using it everyday since Christmas. Feels nice and heavy in one’s hand. The accompanying app is super cool and temperature reads are accurate. Only issue is it takes longer to charge than it takes to use. (2 hours to recharge, after an 1.5 hour of use). Still a cool idea. Also need to make sure the charging plate does not get wet at all. He gives it a 4/5 stars. Update- I ended up returning this. Husband said it’s cool but his candle warmer works more efficiently and serves as less of a hassle to use as a mug warmer than this. For the price he said it was just not worth it…

After I’d had my first Ember mug (black) for a year and half back or so. i realized that the bottom of the cup was flaking off the bottom. I contacted support, they informed me it was out of warranty and that I could buy a new mug (mug only no charger) for a discount of $85. That’s fine. Little more than I expected, but it’s out of warranty. I can accept that. Cue new mug. Bought stainless steel. Silly me. I was thinking stainless steel…no coating to flake off. Wrong. So i contact support to let them know I have an issue. Well apparently since they’re not going to make another $85 I’ve haven’t heard boo from them in going on 3 weeks. Two follow up emails have received the same silence. I’ve only got 6 months left for them to ignore me before I have to buy one. <sigh> Short story long…if you buy one of these mugs drink nothing but black coffee or teat. Anything that might increase the surface temperature near the heating elements will cause the coating to flake off. I assume it was my use MCT powder that accelerated this issue. Expensive lesson on my part. I do like the cup, but beware there are issues.

We picked up a couple of these mugs for Black Friday and we're ecstatic about them. We've used them every day for multiple drinks a day. Ember solves a real problem and is one of the very few non-gimmick smart products on the market today. Our friends ask why not a thermos? With a thermos it's true, some can keep your drink close to the temperature you put them in at for a very long time. This is great if you're saving a drink or soup for later in the day and preparing it in the morning. However, when you want to drink your beverage or soup right away, using a thermos causes you to constantly juggle how you drink it as it will be too hot for a long time and suddenly sit at a less than desirable temperature. Ember solves this problem keeping your drink at the perfect drinking temperature for hours. If you're thinking of buying one, and the price is off-putting, wait for a good sale and pull the trigger. Gone are my days of rushing to drink my coffee "while it's still hot". I can prepare multiple drinks for the family and not worry about my own.
