I have this product.... it takes 6 D batteries.

Q: Does this thing take C or D battires? I'm confused...

It takes like 8 d batteries, but they last a long time, then again I use it a few days a week for short periods of time. Good product regardless

Plastic. Highly recommended. Works great.

Q: Would siren full blast tend to scare off home invaders and alert neighbors to call the police?

Doubtful.... it's pretty loud but more for getting the attention of a large crowd. I used it to start my outdoor aqua classes in the summer. Most folks would recognize it as a bull horn siren and not instinctively phone police. Best to rely on a security system if that's what you're looking for.
