!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3YR UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!
I'm not a computer guy, I don't solder tiny or delicate stuff. I've always used super cheap solder guns so this is my first real solder setup. But Holy crap does this thing get HOT and does it incredibly FAST! I have no idea what other solder irons are like besides the cheap ones that take 20min to heat up and don't stay hot enough to do any real soldering with. I'm currently using it to make wire harnesses for muscle cars and man, I can't get over how sweet this rig is. I'm 100% happy with this purchase. I didn't expect the spool, tweezer, solder sucker or other tips... It was a nice surprise to find them in the kit. 3yr UPDATE: This thing was a trooper, but the iron itself didn't like to stay together. The metal portion would fall off the handle pretty easy. The threads weren't stripped either. The only thing I can think of is the plastic locking ring grew from repeated heat cycles or the handle shrunk from the same cause. Very irritating! I used some thread tape on the handle threads and it helped, but still wasn't right. I really liked this soldering iron; used it yesterday and it was fine. Today it wouldn't heat up no matter what. I tore it apart trying to find an obvious problem and couldn't find one. Everything Ohm'ed fine, continuity was good, no burnt spots, no damage..... It just won't heat. Even the element was good. I can turn the knob to command a temp and it'll flip to the actual temp in a few seconds. It just sits there at 100 degrees or so and doesn't rise. I can hold a lighter under the tip and watch the digital readout temp rise, but it won't heat on its own. I tore the base apart and inspected everything, all looked good. I used a thermal camera on the board and the hottest part was the potentiometer knob body, but I'd expect that. No other part of the board or the mini board inside the iron itself had any hot pots per my Ames thermal inspection camera. I cleaned all possible contact points inside the iron end to no avail. I was at a complete loss as to why it wouldn't heat. Of course I started checking even dumb things and my unsteady hands touched the wrong thing. A single spark and it's now DOA. It was great until it wasn't..... I learned though, I'll have a cheap spare on hand at all times. Now I have to wait a few days to get a replacement. I went name brand this time.

Third time was a charm!
After purchasing and returning 2 of these because they did not work, the owner of the company contacted me personally to apologize and offer me another one to try in order to see if it would work better. This third one worked perfectly, exactly as I had hoped the first 2 would. I can say that the customer service from X-TRONIC gets an A+ and their product works great! This was my previous review: I needed a soldering iron for some electrical/circuit board work I was going to be doing. I looked online and read articles and reviews of different soldering irons before I bought anything. This particular soldering iron from X-Tronic was rated as the best soldering iron in a bunch of head-to-head reviewed tests online. I always try to buy the best tools and the best quality that I can afford, and I figured that I should get the best when it came to soldering irons. My goodness, was I in for a surprise. I ordered one of these soldering irons and I immediately noticed that it did not seem to melt solder very well. I kept it for about a day and tried to work with it, I thought initially that maybe I was doing something wrong. The solder that I was using had a melting point somewhere in the low to mid 400°F range, so I set the temperature on the soldering iron to about 530°F. You would think that this would work perfectly, but it seemed like the iron was not heating up properly and it just did not really want to melt the solder. I have never seen anything like it in my life. I turned the temperature up on the soldering iron to 600°F and it still was having a difficult time melting the solder! I would hold the iron on the solder for literally 15 or 20 seconds and it would deform the solder, but it would not melt the solder. Unreal! I figured I must have gotten a defective unit, so I returned it to Amazon. I then ordered the exact same X-Tronic soldering iron again. I figured this time I would get a good one and everything would work the way was supposed to. Wrong again! This new soldering iron was just the same as the first one. It had the exact same issues where it did not seem to want to melt solder. I kept this iron for a couple of days, I even had my father-in-law try it out to see if I was crazy. I thought he might say that the iron was fine and it was user error. My father-in-law is much more experienced in soldering than I am and he's very good at it. After using it for about five minutes he looked at me and said it's no good, just return this junk. He pulled out a cheap soldering iron that he bought online for about eight dollars and he used it on the same stuff that he had just tried the X-Tronic on and it melted the solder like a hot knife through butter. There was no comparison. The cheap junk soldering iron was light-years better. So I actually returned my soldering iron for a second time and I bought a different soldering iron, from the same brand that my father-in-law purchased his cheap one from. I'm here to report that the new one from the cheap brand works great. Can't say enough good things about a soldering iron that came with a case and set for less than $20! Here is what I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0744P55YR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I don't know if the two X-Tronic irons that I purchased and returned were both defective and from a bad batch or if the design is just no good, but it's just shocking to me that this iron has so many great reviews but yet I bought two of them and neither one worked well at all. It might be a defective heating element, it might be that the thermostat is calibrated wrong from the factory. I just don't understand it.

Perfect and a great value.
Gets the job done perfectly. Heats up in 30 seconds or less. The display shows the temperature I'm setting as I adjust the knob, or just after turning it on, and after a few seconds it shows the actual temp as it ramps up. The temperature stays nice and constant as I use it. It's great for basic electrical fixes, from lamp cords to fine electronics. I don't know whether it has the wattage for jewelry or to solder a lead to a potentiometer casing, which takes considerable wattage, but based on the rating it should. The stand, sponge, and brush are very conveniently located, and the wire from power unit to pencil is flexible and doesn't pull or impair fine position control. I don't use the solder holder, so I didn't bother attaching it. I prefer the smaller footprint without it. It's nice that we get the option of having it attached or not.

Excellent customer service. OK product. Quality/longevity of the product is questionable.
Excellent customer service sent me a letter that the tip cleaner was missing a week or so after getting the iron. The letter said various customers had complained the item was missing over the last week of orders so enclosed was the tip cleaner I didn't yet realize was missing and the note went on to say if you weren't missing the item then accept the spare as a free gift. Wow! Now about the iron. Very precise temp control it would seem. Heats up very fast. Doesn't take forever like some irons to cool off. The problem is that according to my laser thermometer, this product is completely way off base on the temperature it says its providing. It's nowhere near the claimed nearly 900º on the display. but the degree of granularity for adjustment is pretty good. Clean tip doesn't pit easily like the last crappy iron I bought from someone else. Love the built in solder roll holder, tip cleaner, and sponge pond. Would be truly an outstanding product at a great price if they could nail their quality control issues and fix the fact that the temperature displayed is nowhere near accurate… This iron has enabled me to do some more delicate work I was holding off on with a board on a kit that was not made right where pads were coming off with too much heat of other irons. Got that kit reworked and working! Thanks! If I had one suggestion to improve the product it would be to not go into sleep mode so quickly or to leave sleep mode and immediately heat back up to where it was when the user touches the temp knob rather than having to power off power on cycle to get back to where you were. Very minor complaint though. By the way the center section makes a great stand to put a clip-on style desk lamp (like Pixar's Lux the Lamp). Next I think I'll try soldering my artistic cells solar panel I've been holding off on for a long time because my solar soldering iron broke. This one should be adjustable enough to do what needs to be done with solar cells. If its a problem, I will modify this feedback, but I don't foresee that as happening. So future silence from me on this iron is golden. 5 STARS! **** UPDATE. It's been over a year using the second replacement iron I was shipped. I give their customer service 5 stars for being accessible, efficient and fair. That said, the inaccurate temperature display is a downer as well as the fact that I had to go through two irons and two customer service calls to get one that will stay on and working so, I have to revisit my rating on this product. It gets only 4 stars because of those two issues.

Great soldering station
I bought this several years ago and it has been great. I used it extensively to build a drone that needed a lot of reworks. Their support is also great. I melted on the transparent cap to the soldering tip when I first set it up because I didn't realize it was there and they sent me a replacement tip for free. Seems to come up to temperature quickly and stays there. If you use the right tip for the job and apply it at right angle it solders consistently and quickly. These tips and the tip holder are great https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DC58T5KY?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1 definitely worth purchasing the tip holder along with the tips so you have the right one at hand. X-tronic also makes tips, but I haven't tried them. The tip cleaner is also very handy and I used it enough that I need a new one now.

Great product
I have had this thing for over a year now, and have done a lot of soldering with it. I was impressed with not only how quickly it got up to temp, but how well it maintained the temp. That doesn’t seem to be the case over about 825 F, there seems to be a lot of overshoot, up over 1000, if you crank it all the way to 896, but that just shows how capable it is, and since I never do anything about 750, I never worry about this. I’m usually running at 600. Sleep mode is nice, and wakes up easily. I have used other more expensive irons, and this one is way better for a fraction of the cost! Steady temp control, even while soldering, only maybe dipped down one degree, other nicer once I’ve used might dip down 10 degrees or more. The only down side to it is the fact that the read out might say it’s up to temp and you won’t be able to solder right away, this is because the tip hasn’t heated up yet, however this isn’t major, give it a few seconds and it will be ok. It takes just a few seconds to come up to temp, and less than 30 seconds for the tip to get up to temp, so still very fast, worth the money, I’ve definitely got my money’s worth out of it.

Just as good as the old Weller stations I used in school
I have always wanted a Weller station since using them in school decades ago, but I just don't do enough soldering to justify the expense. I bought an Aouye model 469 that lasted only through one project before it was on the fritz -- so cheap, not even worth complaining. Then I tried the X-tronic. Mind you, I've only used it on 3 projects so far, but it's the best soldering iron I've ever owned, just as good as the Weller, but not as fancy looking, which is fine by me. It heats up really fast. One thing I was confused about at first was that you have to dial in your desired temperature quickly because after a couple of seconds it will start telling you what the tip temperature is using the same digital readout. It gets really hot! Up to 896˚F (450˚C) -- you can choose what scale you want. I've been soldering headers on boards and have it dialed up kind of high (700˚F) because the headers are kind of thick and I don't want to damage any nearby electronics so I have to move fast. This iron handles it, though, very nicely, and the handle stays nice and cool to the touch making long soldering sessions comfortable. The readout is clear and bright. The included tip cleaner is OK, but I got some of the Thermaltronics TMT-TC-2 Lead Free Tip Tinner (20g) in 0.8oz Container that does an excellent job with just the included sponge to wipe off excess. Also, the Sywon 60-40 Tin Lead Rosin Core Solder Wire 0.039" 50g for Electrical Soldering and DIYs recommended by others here works like a dream, good flow, nice and shiny joints. We'll see how long the X-tronic lasts. If you haven't heard from me yet with an update, it's still going strong.

It's everything you want and more
It's awesome! I asked for this as a birthday present a few months back and it still runs like new! The dial allows for easy and precise temperature control and the included stand keeps it out of the way. The individual spots for each thing you would need come in very handy and convenient. The tips allow for a lot of different applications and the irom itself is really comfortable to hold and pretty sturdy. Overall I love it! The included helping hands are also so nice to have.
