Compact acoustic guitar multi effects pedal that sounds great for little money.
The Sonicake Sonic Bar Sonic Wood is a compact acoustic multi effects pedal with a preamp, chorus, delay and reverb. There's a single 1/4" input, a 1/4" output and an XLR output. I play a lot of acoustic gigs and could use this and only add a looper and a tuner, though I have one built into most of my guitars. I did my best to make an amateur video so you can hear the pedal and see how it functions. I'd suggest you also watch the official video from Soncake. My guitars have built in preamps, so I wasn't able to really test the preamp. However, with the tone controls at noon and the volume up, it works great as a lead boost. I'm really picky about my chorus sound and this one made me happy. You can make it really warbly, but I like something way more subtle, yet noticeable. In addition, the chorus has a tap tempo feature that I demo in the video. If you're using the effect as something like a rotary speaker sim (it's a chorus, but doesn't sound like a univibe), you can go from slow to fast with the tap of your foot. The delay gives you blend (level), repeat (feedback) and time knobs. I think it sounds great and warm without altering your full range acoustic sound. It also has a tap tempo feature (shown in the video) which I always use to match the delay tempo to the song. The reverb is a one knob affair, but sounds good with a very usable range; from none to way too much that some ambient players might like. It also has a tail effect that I forgot to demo in my video. I would use it to keep the reverb low for normal play, then hit the tail switch to end with a BIG reverb. Pretty cool and not something I've seen in another pedal. As with all the Sonicake pedals I've tried, the chassis is strong metal, the knobs feel very smooth but won't move until you do it deliberately. The footswitches have a great feel and seem like they'll stand up to use. The input, output and xlr jacks are metal, not. cheap plastic. Overall it's really well made. Surprising for the price. Size-wise, it's way smaller than the Tech 21 acoustic rig or the Trace Transit A, but it does lack a tuner I should mention that this unit comes with a 9V, center negative, 500ma power supply. It's small, but the power cord is probably the longest I've seen. That can come in handy as it did during my video. If you only need a short cord, just use a tie to keep the cable neat and together. In summary, it's a hell of a pedal for $69!!! Now I want to try some of the electric multi effects!

Can't beat it for the price
I picked this up to add some depth to my acoustic guitar. I frequently play amplified and thought the addition of some acoustic type effects would add to the sound. I was not disappointed. This multi effects pedal offers reverb, delay, chorus, and a preamp which can be handy with certain passive pickups. It is well built and easy to work with. The case is metal and all the switches are solid and have a positive response when clicked. The controls for each effect are lighted when the effect is active. The control knobs are intuitive and nicely reactive. It also includes a "tap-tempo" and "tail on/off" function. The unit has a standard 1/4" TS input and a choice of either a 1/4" TS output or XLR output which can be very handy if going directly to a mixing board. It uses a standard 9 volt (negative tip) power input (not supplied) which is pretty universal with guitar pedals. As with many effects pedals this unit does add a little bit of noise to the signal, but, nothing out of the ordinary. I can usually eliminate it by using the pad function on my mixer. A noise gate would work well too. I have been very pleased with this and think it is a great value. I should point out that I am not a professional player or sound tech. This works for my intermediate playing ability and budget.

Small but effective
The effects sounds are a little mid. I do like the acoustic preamp. I play this unit in church. Pretty versatile. Switching is good. Balanced out is good

Very handy and simple to use
I am a singer and songwriter performing in local music venues. When I record my songs, I often add instruments to enhance the mood. Since I can't to that live, I wanted a way to enhance live performance without using backing tracks. This pedal offers reverb, chorus, and delay as well as acting as a preamp. I found it easy to dial in the sound that works for me and lo turn the effects on and off. I do wish that it had a battery option, but all in all it is a great product at a great price.

Great pedal so far so good!
So far so good. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I hope it lasts me for several years, who knows? I’ll update in a year. The metal casing is nice as are the stomp buttons. Seems rugged in that respect. One note: I didn’t know it came with the power cord so I ordered a suggested one that was on the Amazon page. I was surprised to see the pedal came with the cord. However, it seems like a very thin cord that may wear out or break easily, so I will keep the second cord that I ordered as it seems way more durable.

Great pedal for live performing
Not great quality for recording but fantastic for gigs. I play 60 shows a year using this unit. Very dependable so far I put large “letter” stickers next to each button so I can label each button on a dark stage- reverb delay chorus preamp “R”. “D”. “C”. “P” It helps

Should be more expensive for what it can do!
The look and build quality of the casing is fantastic. The preamp is ok, I have preamps on my Taylor and Washburn and they seem to do the job without using the pedal. The effects are usable, although not high quality analog that I'm used to, but it works and is customizable beyond most devices this size from other manufacturers. So what you get for the price point is worth every penny spent and then some. Excellent!

There are all sorts of acoustic pickups both active and passive, I tried this unit on an acoustic with active pickups and a semi-acoustic with passive pickups. For the most part there was little difference other than setting the pre-amp controls , if the pre-amp is set flat on the tone controls at full volume it maintains the same volume as the signal going in, it is not a volume boost , it is a volume control that will keep the signal from clipping. The 2 tone controls will add volume in each of their ranges, basically complementing the sound of the standard 4 band active pickups being used today, giving a richer sound. The unit is a nice compact size with the switches at a comfortable distance to use , and all of the sections can be used simultaneously without taxing the power supply (included) or making the lights fllicker. The reverb effect is pretty simmple , one control , and goes from subtle to driving surf sound. The echo has a nice sound with typical feedback and intensity and speed controls, sounds nice on its own . The chorus I found absolutely amazing it had a richer fuller sound than I have found on most separate chorus pedals I found myself turning it on often because it sounded so good. I tried also with an electric guitar , the quality comes out there as well, and it sounds great with an off-board distortion unit too.
