What kind of sound does this make, more bell-like ("donnnng") or more cymbal-like ("crashhhhh")?

It’s definitely not a “donnng”. It’s too small to make that sound. I would agree it’s more like a cymbal.

it is fairly loud; partially b/c of the tone. it gets the attention of everyone in our office but it would depend on the size of the room -- standard office or conference room; yes.
