Hakko FX888-23BY Soldering Station with T18-B/D08/D12/D24 Tips

This is a fantastic soldering station for the general hobbyist. Accurate and reliable temps / recovers well on both big and small jobs and it’s built to last. Took me a few hours to adjust to the size of the iron as it’s just a little bigger than I’d like but I don’t even notice it anymore. The difference in quality between this station and the cheaper ones is night and day. Its fairly compact and the cord is soft yet burn resistant which is nice if your bench or work area is smaller. While the menu system isn’t exactly intuitive, this tried and true iron has been around for a while so there’s plenty of help online if needed. There’s a variety of tips / replacement tips available here on Amazon and parts are easy to find. If you’re into hobby grade builds or doing component level work often, miss the cheap irons and purchase this rig. It will give you the consistency you need to produce good strong solder joints for a really long time.

Beginner here. Working flawlessly so far. The power supply and pen stand feel VERY solid. The extra tips are great to have. The pen (which is a pleasure to wield, I have to say) heats up pretty fast. What I worried about was the critiques some had about the digital interface, mainly because of the limited number of buttons. It is not as bad as they make it, though I admit it is not intuitive: you NEED to read the instructions, which are pretty clear. However, the booklet that came with the unit didn't thoroughly explain how to use all the bells and whistles of the interface. You will have to go to Hakko's Website and download the much more detailed instructions' PDF. That's really my only beef with it. Would it really raise the price so much to include the full printed manual? Oh well. Of course, there're also plenty of YT videos showing how to activate (since it is not on by default) and customize the preset temperatures. All in all, happy with the purchase.

I used this for some small electronics repair and soldering. It did the job well. I found the inclusion of the chisel tips in the kit to be very useful, which is why I chose this package over the normal version. Works well, heats well, easy to set up and use. Stand is high quality and iron is easy to maneuver.

On an online discussion forum, a number of users from around the world have recommended the Hakko FX888-23BY Soldering Station. Most noted that their soldering abilities seemed to improve dramatically when they started using this soldering set. My experience has been the same! Perhaps it is the way the transformer gets the tip up to temperature so fast and can keep up the heat in transferring to the work.

Extremely impressed with this unit. Comes up to temp fast, holds the temp well and gets the job done. Highly recommended.

Good value for the money spent, nice selection of tips for a large variety of soldering tasks. Absolutely the worst user interface if you need or want to change the setting often. Temps are spot on and stable ( temp compensation is possible but requires you to search for instructions), the size is perfect and takes up little space on the bench.

The Hakko is a familiar standby item. Well built and a steady performer. A little more expensive but you still get what you pay for.

Love it It heats up quick, came with all the tips I need. It has a nice flexible cable. and a small diameter on the iron. temp adjust took awhile to figure out but , it works flawlessly.
