Another Great Entry by EVGA
If you know anything about PC hardware, you know that the GeForce GTX 1080 is a beast to begin with. The FTW2 takes it a step further with its new iCX cooling technology, and a who-needs-this amount of temp sensors. Demolishes anything 1080p you can throw at it, and holds up very nicely on most games in 1440p with High-Ultra settings. The only people who might need anything more than this, would be people wanting 1440p 120Hz+ or 4K. If you have a 4K G-Sync panel, though, the low frames might not even be felt too much. I'm using it with a Ryzen 7 1700 (@ 3.8), so if you're on Intel's Skylake platform or newer, you'll be seeing a decent bit more FPS than I am. Mine runs very cool even in my tropical climate, idling at 30C, and topping out almost exactly at 60C very consistently. I have a fairly aggressive fan curve set, but even with a quiet one, temps don't change drastically. The asynchronous fan control is an added bonus, but do note, you have to use EVGA's Precision XOC to utilize this function. I don't really use the async control, but again, it's nice to have. The rated 1860mHz overclock is generous, and with current GPU Boost tech, it'll run at 2000mHz+ on its own in the right conditions. I got it stable up to 2200mHz without touching the voltage slider. I didn't mess with memory clocks, but it's overclocked nicely out of the box. It's definitely overkill for eSports games like CSGO, DOTA, and LoL, but it's nice having the extra power to utilize 120-240Hz panels fully. Games like Far Cry 4, which have weird CPU usage issues, might not even let you hit the 90% usage on the card. Again, though, it's nice having the headroom. The added backplate is nice, but I'd very much like them to use bigger screws, because mine is now out of commission after stripping them trying to install a water block (I thought my 0 pt. precision screwdriver was perfect, but it was too shallow, apparently; the bigger, non-precision 0 pt. was perfect for the second half of non-ruined screws). This is obviously user error, but now that it's happened, fixing it is extremely hard because of the screw size. Pricing at the time of purchase (June 2017) was at or slightly above MSRP. As such, it was a perfect price point for this card. What you're getting is a robustly built, great looking 1080, in spitting distance of FE 1080's price point. As of writing this, however, this card is selling for $900-950+. If you absolutely need something right now, go for it. But, just keep in mind that Volta might be coming soon, and +300 MSRP on a high end component might not be worth it for most people. Overall, this is a solid performer. I've had zero problems with it performing as it should. This is my sixth EVGA card, and they haven't done anything to make me switch. My second and fourth cards, both GTX 660s, had to be RMAd, and between Amazon and EVGA, I was quite satisfied with the service, as it was prompt and nicely handled. TL;DR: Anyone who wants a solid card for high refresh 1080p, good fps 1440p, or capable 4K, this is your card. Especially since it's backed by a great company.

- Every computer needs a good processor. Intel currently leads in performance (Sorry AMD) ...
Amazon once again helps us to fulfill all of our shopping needs. This Christmas we are surprising our daughter with all the component that she need to build herself a computer that will definitely make her classmates jelly. Computer assembly isn't difficult for noobs, but to the uninformed saying that your built your own is definitely impressive. With each system you need to make sure that you purchase certain components. This is what we got her: 1. Case: Thermaltake Versa N21 Translucent Panel ATX Mid Tower Window Gaming Computer Case Cases CA-1D9-00M1WN-00 - This case is a simple sleek design that will help protect the vital components from her younger sister's tiny fingers. 2. Power supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1, 80+ GOLD 650W, Fully Modular, 10 Year Warranty, Includes FREE Power On Self Tester, Power Supply 120-G1-0650-XR - This power supply was one of the highest rates, quality built, cost effective supplies available. 3. Motherboard: Gigabyte LGA 1151 Z170 2-Way SLI UEFI DualBIOS ATX DDR4 ATX DDR4 NA Motherboards GA-Z170XP-SLI - We chose this Motherboard because it will allow us to add up to three m.2 SSD hard drives at a later date, perhaps her birthday. 4. Processor: Intel Core i5 6600K 3.50 GHz Quad Core Skylake Desktop Processor, Socket LGA 1151, 6MB Cache (BX80662I56600K) - Every computer needs a good processor. Intel currently leads in performance (Sorry AMD) 5. Heat Sink: ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2 CPU Cooler - Intel & AMD, Twin-Tower Heatsink, 120mm PWM Fan - Heatsinks are important to help transfer heat away from the processor and help to avoid it from overheating. Water cooling is very effective but introduce additional points of failure. We chose this because she isn't heavy into gaming but it will allow her to explore. 6. Ram: Corsair memory kit 16.0 DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) (QTY:2) - 32gb of ram is a bit overkill but provides additional room for growth. 7. Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC GAMING ACX 3.0, 8GB GDDR5X, LED, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Card 08G-P4-6183-KR - This video card it is a bit of overkill for her, a EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 3GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Cards 03G-P4-6160-KR is more affordable and in line with her fascination for World of Warcraft. 8. Hard Drive: Seagate 1TB BarraCuda SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive (ST1000DM010) - Seagate makes a quality product, I have used them for years. I have a network drive with one of their hard drives that has been running since 2009. 1TB is sufficient for her needs. 9. Optical Drive: LG Electronics 14x SATA Blu-ray Internal Rewriter without Software, Black (WH14NS40) - This is only needed if she has a need for playing/recording DVD or Blu-ray discs. To watch Blu-ray movies will require purchasing additional software. 10. Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit - I prefer to use to the professional versions of windows as it allows me greater control of the operating system and aides in the monitoring and protection of the system from the youngins' 11. Antivirus: Norton Security Premium - 10 Devices [Key Card ] - I use Nortons to help protect all of my computers for one low cost. There is only one computer in our household with a different AV and i've had to clean a couple viruses off of it.

Absolute monster of a card. I ordered it for $650 CAD back in April 2017. You might want to be careful at what price you buy at because they will fluctuate. It does 1080p gaming at Maximum settings with all games I can throw at it. I can also do 4K gaming with medium to very high settings depending on the game. I do not have a 4K monitor yet so I have not been able to test native 4K yet workloads/gaming. I have a 1080p monitor and I currently make use of Nvidia's Dynamic Screen Resolution (DSR) tech which allows me to play games at 4K resolutions but on my 1080p monitor. The fan of the card is quiet for idle or low usage. However, since it is a blower style fan (single fan sucking air from the case and blowing to the back of the card), it can get noticeably loud when on high workloads. In conclusion, this card will definitely run almost all modern day games. However, you should do your research to find out if this card is actually what you need. If you do not intend to push 4K resolution workloads/gaming, you could buy a lower tier card (GTX 1060 or RX 580) for 1080p performance.

Performance is as expected, temperature under load (~70 C) and noise level (none) even better than I was expecting. Looking forward to building my new system in a case with better airflow than my current one. Not tried pushing the OC beyond what Evga has done yet, although suspect there's only marginal gains to be had there. Did try to use the adapter for 2 x 6 PCI-E cables into an 8 for the GPU, but power to the card was unstable to the point of it turning itself on and off. Just hooking it up directly to a 6+2 from the PSU was a definite improvement. If you're playing with internal LED colours, keep in mind the the SC version of this card only does white. If this review were to cover Amazon's delivery for this, I'd knock three stars off. Ridiculously long waits for an item 'in stock' and held by Amazon themselves. The price variations during the wait, and after Amazon has taken payment from your bank account, just adds extra salt.

Great product and good VfM! Highly suggested. Like the good build quality and the cards keeps cool even after a long gaming session.
