Islam and Modernity: Transformation of an Intellectual Tradition: 15 (Publications of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies) : Rahman, Fazlur: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: The journey that lies ahead for Muslims has been laid out. - Fazlur Rahman, one of the most reknowned Muslim scholars of the twentieth century, has had an impact on Muslim thought that will not be easily forgotten. His dedication to finding viable solutions and to create a pragmatic and Quran based interpretation of where Muslims stand and where they should be heading, is undeniable. This book examines the historical degradation of Islamic knowledge and its failures to meet the challenges of modern science and scientific method. He examines the failures of previous measures to reform Islamic education and in-turn Islamic thought itself, but also looks to the future and lays out carefully what needs to be done to create a sustainable body of modern Islamic scholarship. This book is critical yet still retains a theme of hope and support to the struggles that Muslims shall face. It is definitely worth a read, and may one day inspire the next generation of Muslim reformers. Review: Quality and packaging were great.
