Prefer light meters that save the last setting you used on restart. As the technologies have developed its kind of counter productive to skip this setting as all of the connections in a fiber market or project will typically be on the same setting. The vfl is fine. Durable material, does everything a 30mw vfl should.

Still haven’t quite figured out how to use the power meter effectively... but the light did show that the first patch in our building to building run was cracked in several places. It lit up like a flare when I put the light on it. Super helpful after chasing the connections by replacing fiber with what turned out to be... after getting the light and testing... more bad fiber. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Its a good little kit. I'm replacing network switches with those I can connect together with fiber, so using this to just test to be sure the cables are working. I'm waiting on a 100ft cable I have pull through underground conduit. So will use this to test the pre-made length before and after pulling the fiber cable through.

I just needed something that could give me a pass fail, the readings don’t stabilize if your transmitting live data.
