Great read
This is a great political crime thriller. Peter works nights at The White House and his main job is to man the desk with a phone that will only ring if it’s a matter of national security. One night it rings and he’s given the code words so follows instructions and lets his boss know. The woman who calls was staying with her aunt and uncle and they were attacked and told her to run, but gave her the code words to say. Peter is worried about Rose so goes to the crime scene but is turned away. He meets her at the funeral and tells her to contact him if she needs help. Peter isn’t meant to get involved as his role is simply to pass on the message from the phone, but in this case he gets in deeper and deeper until he’s in a whole heap of trouble. There’s lots going on in this book and it’s certainly hard to know who to trust. I really enjoyed this book as it reminded me of the tv show 24. Thanks to Aria and Aries and NetGalley fir the opportunity to read this book.

Not as good as the Netflix seties
Having watched the Netflix series, I wanted to delve a little deeper into the story and read the book. Big mistake. The book was dull and I gave up half way through. The script writers of the series did a brilliant job and I should have settled for their version

The truth about Peter Sutherland
This book is absolutely fascinating in what it reveals about Peter Sutherland, former EU Commissioner, WTO Director General, Chairman of Goldman Sachs, etc. Many rumours were already in circulation about Mr Sutherland's relationship with - variously - the Illuminati, Opus Dei, George Soros, the Bilderberg Group, the Rosicrucians, the World Economic Forum (Davos) and other organisations too numerous to mention. This book reveals that he was actually employed by the FBI the whole time. Astonishing. Readers may find it hard to reconcile the exploits described in this book - which would appear to have required a degree of athleticism, combined with energy and selflessness - with the corpulent and self-satisfied figure with whom the world was familiar. It just goes to show that you never can tell.
