one of the best black lipsticks!!!
this is a very nice black lipstick. and currently this is one of my go-to's because of how matte black and long-wear it is. i have had little luck finding an actually good black lipstick until now. even the packaging is cute!!! it is one of the few i have had so far that doesn't transfer a whole lot onto other things. kissing someone on the cheek doesn't leave a mark hardly at all, and i've noticed little wear on my lipstick after drinking out of a cup and through a straw. i would recommend touch ups after eating though. other than that, i have had little issues on needing to reapply after wearing it for a long period of time. application is very easy, i also find it satisfying as the formula doesn't feel sticky. it glides really nice and it even smells good too !! it feels soft and the wetness is perfect. it doesn't feel watery or oily either. i couldn't recommend it enough. truly one of the best lipsticks out there (in my opinion)

Wonder color, neat texture
I am a very pale skinned caucasian but with yellow undertones, making flattering reds difficult to find. The red Velvet color has blue tones that make my teeth look whiter and the skin around my lips more even. The texture is like a VERY thin gloss, making the sponge-applicator it comes with a little hard to use, I just use my lip-brush/tiny watercolor brush. It does bleed a little with the foundations that I use for my dry skin so I use a liner beneath it. I did not notice a chemically smell, and I have a very sensitive nose, but maybe thats just because Ive used 8-hour lipsticks that smell toxic. It stays remarkably long, I only need to touch it up after eating or drinking, and the color is just brilliant, and doesn't fade. Though it dries matte (beautifully) the color is still malleable and I can fill in areas that smudge, or fix a poorly drawn line with my brush even hours after application. For a matte, my lips stay pretty moist, no drying out! I am buying another to make sure I dont run-out unexpectedly.

Beautiful for darker skin tones. Lasts all night!
I really love this lipstick. I don't usually wear any makeup at all but I wanted something I could wear out on special occasions. I have tan skin and this color compliments my skin well. It has more of a bluish tone instead of orange that works on darker skin. The color is very easy to apply but you need a lip liner since it bleeds a little bit. Once on it stays all night. I can kiss people on the cheek and the color wont come off. I can eat and drink as well as long as the food isn't oily. Oil makes the color come off. It does dry your lips out after a whole night but not too badly and it still looks fine it just might feel like your lips are starting to flake. And the next day after its been taken off and you put some sort of lip moisturizer on it's fine. It is actually quite hard to get the lipstick off but I like that since it helps it stay on all night. It helps if you put Vaseline or some other oily chapstick on top and then wipe it off or use an oily makeup remover.

New fan and I highly recommend this!!
I've been hearing about Lime Crime for years online and I was never a huge fan of the matte look, but after allllll the great things I read, I decided it may be worth a shot to try it out. I feel like Lime Crime was at the forefront of matte lip gloss and now I know why, it's not just matte it's a perfect stain. The color comes out pretty true to the picture which is a rarity and fantastic! What I really love about it though is that it goes on light, not sheer light, but light weight. A huge problem for me at least is makeup that feels cakey and heavy, but this lip gloss practically feels like a powder and it doesn't dry out my lips. Let me say that again.....DOESN'T DRY OUT MY LIPS!!!!!! Especially with winter dry air beating up my skin this is a miracle in a tube. I can wear it alone as a matter color or under a moisturizing gloss and the color works as a stain, which I am super excited about!!!! I was so pleased with this matter gloss that I tried some other brands in matte that were less expensive in more adventurous shades and I can definitely tell you there is a huge difference. The quality of Lime Crime compared to the drug store matte lip gloss is no contest, the drug store brands feel thick and almost gritty, their color fades significantly and quickly, and they just don't do what they should. (Especially seeing as the price difference is only a few bucks) The only reason I'm not going 5 stars is because the color goes on perfectly matching the picture but after a little while it does lighten up. I thought riot would be a nice dark pink with a hint of brown, which it is at application, but it faded to a very flattering nude pink by the time I checked it again at work. Am I sad, no its still a gorgeous color, but I would definitely reapply to get the perfect color I want. In all honesty that is absolutely fine, it's not marketed as a one hit wear all day and I'm sure if it did last all day it wouldn't be as gentle on my skin so I will definitely be a loyal brand buyer of Lime Crime from now on. Long story short, I highly recommend this product. If you're looking to get in to matte lip color or you're just looking for a great color, go for it!

Great color and stays on forever!
I admit it: I'm so hooked on these Velvetines! They are my first foray into Lime Crime's makeup, and they really do live up to the hype! Cashmere is a gorgeous "greige" color, with a tiny bit of lavender/pink mixed in. I haven't seen anyone that doesn't look good in it, and to my extreme happiness, it looks good on me too! Application does take some skill, however, but once you get a good method for yourself, it's much easier. This is a liquid lip color that's applied with a doe foot applicator, much like most lip glosses are. The lip color dries really fast, and is opaque with one coat. I usually carefully draw an outline around my lips with the tip of the applicator, and then I fill it in with the more broad portion. I never have to dip the applicator back into the bottle because there's just the right amount for one complete application on it when I pull it out. You do need to work sort of quickly – remove mistakes immediately or they'll stay there all day – because it dries within seconds. After I'm completely done applying the liquid, I keep my mouth open and my lips kind of stretched into a wide exaggerated smile, to allow the product to dry without collecting in the crevices of my lips. Once it's dried down completely, it's a beautiful velvety matte texture. I've never used anything like it! This stuff stays on through drinking out of a bottle, straw, gentle kisses, even a meal, assuming it's not terribly greasy. The only downside to using the Velvetines is that they do tend to make your lips dry. This is true of all matte liquid lippies, and it's a trade-off for the superb staying power. I use a lip scrub every few nights, and I keep my lips moisturized with the Laneige sleeping pack for lips overnight. In the morning, I apply a moisturizing balm to my lips up until I am ready to apply my lip color, when I simply wipe it off. If you have balm on your lips before application, or if you apply some afterwards, it will seriously decrease the staying power. If you find that it's wearing off in the middle portion of your mouth, you'll usually have much better results if you can remove the color completely and reapply it. If I'm out and I see this, I just use lip balm to remove Velvetines from my lips! Any oil-based cleanser – or even coconut or jojoba oil – will easily remove the color, as will many makeup wipes. A bonus to the oil is additional moisture in your lips. Don't try to force it off with water and a washcloth or an ineffective makeup remover; pulling on your lips will HURT and can cause wrinkles later on. No thanks! Overall, I really love the Velvetines as a product, and Cashmere is my favorite color. I lost mine on the subway and had to reorder it. It's one of the very few items that I like enough to reorder! The color is very close to the swatch pictured, and the claims about staying power are absolutely true. Once I figured out the best way to apply these, I found that I can wear them every day, and I do.

I loved the dark plum/red color so I bought it
I did not know this company had so much controversy before I placed the order for my "Beet It" Velvetine. I loved the dark plum/red color so I bought it. Love amazon prime shipping, came to my house in 2 days. The color is like the picture and is very beautiful. I have tried A LOT of different liquid lipsticks. This one is not my favorite, but it's still very good. Very little transfer! It is hard to apply, as is all liquid lipstick. It does dry fast, and is definitely matte. I did reapply it after lunch, as it was beginning to fade the tiniest bit around the insides of my mouth. It stayed on all day until I ate pizza after 8 hours of wear, then it crumbled off and got super, super flaky. and I had to scrub it off in my friends bathroom with a tissue paper and soap. Not totally unexpected since pizza is full of oils and grease! The amount of product you get for $20 is not that much, it's a very tiny bottle. I much prefer Stila's "Stay All Day" Liquid lipsticks. Same price point and the tube is twice the size, formula isn't as drying, but the colors do transfer more than this Lime Crime one did. If you want the ultimate liquid lipstick, look into Beauty Bakerie, they are waterproof and smudge proof. Wearing one right now and haven't had to reapply ALL day...and it's not drying. Overall though, I do love the color of this lipstick, so I will continue to wear it...but it's not my favorite formula...there are definitely better out there.

Favorite Lip Color Ever! I Will Never Run Out of This!
Love this color! I can apply without looking because of the shade. Perfect for everyday wear! Beautiful natural looking shade on my lips! Same issues with the flaking while eating or drinking, but it's easier to apply so it doesn't bother me. Still gets on teeth. Just make sure you have a mirror and you wait until the coat is dry to move your lips. It might need reapplication with eating or drinking and it slightly crumbles when you apply a second coat. It could just be my dry weather here in Arizona. Just use a clear coat to wake it up. I don't care though the color is so freakin' gorgeous. I have gotten used to applying this color and it is worth the wait of letting it dry. My secret to applying this color flawlessly is using a lip brush and outlining my lips with the color like you would with a lip liner and then filling in with the color. You can use a lip liner as well. I just was having a hard time finding an exact matching shade for awhile so that's how I was tiding myself over and it worked. But this is the most beautiful shade of grey/beige. It's supposed to imitate the texture and look of a rose petal. I think the color is absolutely stunning on any skin tone!

and I'm pretty disappointed. The color range is unique and very ...
If you can get past all the controversies surrounding the Lime Crime brand and are still thinking of buying, here's an honest review. I have most of the velvetines, and I'm pretty disappointed. The color range is unique and very cool, which is the only thing that would pull me back in. If I see a really unique shade that only Lime Crime makes I'll make an exception. But if you can find a dupe for a color, do it. These lipsticks are honestly pretty bad. The applicator is messy as hell, but if you're experienced you can pull it off. If you're new to liquid lipsticks or makeup, these are not for you unless you use a brush. They're actually pretty messy in general. I wore Wicked to work and had to reapply 346728463782 times, and at the end of the day I looked HORRIBLE because these lipsticks get allllll over your face. They dry matte fairly well, with no transfer. BUT they get crumbly. And those crumbs of pigment travel to the rest of your face, and DO NOT COME OFF. Which is odd since the lipstick itself on the lips comes off by simply licking your lips a little. But these little crumblies get everywhere, and trying to clean them off without smearing pigment all over your face is a nightmare. And the worst thing about these velvetines: THERE IS BARELY ANY PRODUCT IN THE TUBE. Rumor has it Lime Crime is notorious for this shady kind of behavior, which is why i recommend buying through an outside party lime amazon and not their actual website. But yeah, you can see when they arrive how empty the tube is before you even pull the wand out. That's how empty it is. Definitely not worth 20 dollars. To wrap it up, I dislike this product more than I like it. They are not long wearing, they are messy, overpriced, and you get ripped of on the amount of product you get. But the color range and pigment (on most of them, cashmere i had to do a few layers) is great. My opinion of these velvetines would skyrocket if they at least filled the tubes or changed the formula or something. They're just not worth the hype. They smell very sweet, like cake frosting, which can be good or bad. They're not irritating, but tend to get messy on the face. Some good stuff, some bad stuff. But that's my honest review
