Highly recommended
My home theater was lacking low end, and I was using several hand-me-down 8- and 10-inch powered subs that had seen better days. I bought this speaker, along with a prefabricated enclosure. Then I bought a Europower EP2000 power amp just to power it. For about $400 I ended up with a 15 inch 1,400 watt powered sub using a pro amplifier, and couldn't be happier. If you have the room to hide away a separate power amp, and the room for this JBL in a 15 inch enclosure (I use it for a snack holder or an extra seat in my home theater), you will not be disappointed going this route, instead of spending up to $1,000 for a single contained powered subwoofer unit. This speaker has dual 4-0hm voice coils. That means you can use it for 2, 4, or 8 ohm output amps. If your amp can support 2 ohms out, use both voice coils wired together in parallel. Use just a single voice coil if your amp will only support 4 ohms, or wire both voice coils in series for 8 ohm out amps. This thing Rocks! When I am watching a movie on my HD projector and this thing is on, I am not letting it idle! I crank it up to the point where my basement floor (concrete under the rug) appears to be shaking. I have never heard this speaker crackle, or over modulate (that sound I used to hear all the time with my old hand-me-down powered subs when the cone exceeds its shake movement area). I have kept it cranked so loud during movies and for so long that I actually SMELL the voice coils getting warm when sitting near it, but it continues to light up my very large basement home theater room without missing a single gunshot. If you are building your own I highly recommend the EP2000 amp, which has auto clip sensors, and runs super cool as if it is on idle, with power to spare for this speaker. Because I am a freak, I am considering getting a second JBL 15 inch speaker, and another enclosure, and using the EP2000 to power both at 2 ohms each - the amp seems to have enough power. Another reviewer says he blew his out, but let me reiterate that I really really keep this thing cranked to it's limit while watching home theater movies to the point where I usually smell the voice coils in the room at some point during the heaviest low end scenes, it has never stuttered, and I've had it about a year now, it's been through many hours of what I call stressing power and so far it just purrs. Frequency response seems great to me, although I don't have any calibration equipment.

Was very nice. Blew on 31st day.
When working, really good speaker. I was using a crown xls power amp. One channel to an Emenince sub and the other to this JBL. I have to get it fixed now but the sound this thing can push is worth it. Just bummer that it isnt as dependable as I thought it would be. -1 stars based on my experience of 31 days. Otherwise, it is a monster of a speaker and will push some air. When working, totally 5 star.

Big Bang For Your Buck
Comming from all JL Audio subwoofers I was a bit skeptical but I can say im pretty happy so far how loud this sub is..Well put it this way I wired my jbl dvc so im at 2800w peak and my amp is cranking it out. I do recommend this sub for anyone in a budget as well if you looking for something somewhat loud. Downside is its not that vary clean bass i know so well from my ex jl 15 but hey its 100$, so its a win win. Hopes this helps you decide on your purchase.

Affordable perfection!
As a 19 yr old i have been competing with sound systems for 3 years whether i was the judge or the competitor. I have always leaned toward the brands of mtx and rockford fosgate, until i bought a pair of these subs. I currently have two in a box my friend and i built to comp regulations, not only am I the audiably loud in my car club of three i also hit the second hit dbs in the group (mind you im up against a 2004 f150 with four mtx tr75 10s which hit and impressive 130+ dbs in an under the seat design but im up againt a 1997 ford explorer 4door with four mtx tr75 12s at 144dbs), i hit 141.1dbs with these subs in the back of a 95 dodge dakota, so needless to say now but these subs absolutly out perform any subs and at half to a quarter of the wattage.

What are you waiting for? Buy JBL
Fantastic subs for the money!! I bought two of them an they sound amazing, I wouldn't bother spending a ton more money for other 18" subs when these will do just as well. I've had them for 7 month now and no issues at all. I will be buying these again.
