My son is 16 months old, and has recently developed an obsession with airplanes, helicopters, buses, cars, and trucks. We went to Target to find a helicopter toy for him, and much to my disappointment could only find fighter-type army helicopters with tiny parts. I decided to then shop online and came across this one! It's adorable, and he loves to play with it! He can roll it on the ground with his trucks or he can fly it in the air with one hand! He likes to play with the propeller! I try not to take wooden toys in the tub, but he has been so attached to this one since he got it- I've given in a few times! That said, it even seems to have held up after being a "water copter" the few times he's taken it in! A great quality toy!

I bought this looking for a gender-neutral first vehicle toy for our 10-month-old daughter. After much searching online, I discovered that many vehicle toys have small parts that are not appropriate for her age. This toy (and the red car by the same brand) are perfect for her little hands to hold. She loves to spin the wheels and you can see her trying to figure out which way is right-side-up to roll. Bonus points: the vehicle is attractive and made of wood (not plastic!). I did not have the issue some reviewers noted with the paint coming off. I suspect this will be a toy that remains out and in constant use for many years of open-ended play to come.

Hape International toy line has once again impressed me of the quality of their toys. We have had this particular line up of toys for just over a year and it shows no signs of cracking, chipping or color fading. My 14 month old gives these toys a hard thrashing! My wooden floors are showing more wear than these toys. This line up has 6 pieces to its entire set. Pieces range from $11 to $13 (free shipping), I was able to collect the entire set for under $90.00. Its not cheap, but these toys are meant to last. Once my kid grows out of it, it is a nice memorabilia piece to keep or pass it down to his children. The true benefit of quality built wooden toys is ... durability! Whenever my son and I play with this set I always go for the orange helicopter! It is one of my favorite pieces in their entire set. I had bought this particular when he was approximately 10 months old with the Hape Red Mini Van. He did not have many issues picking up this piece because of the small handle like design at the tail boom (where the tail rotor would be). Now that he is 15 months he is able to flick the rotor blades and pretend its flying. Its simplistic design what makes it such a nice piece. Sometimes it nice to step away from all the flashy lights, metallic shiny colors, or noisy little extra gadgets and just let his imagination make up the story.
