This product works pretty week for me.

If you're tired of staring at the ceiling thinking about that thing you said in 8th grade, magnesium citrate might be your new bestie. Helps my sleep, chills my anxiety, and my leg cramps have officially peaced out. Just don’t double up thinking more is more unless you want to... expedite digestion, let’s say. Respect the dose.

Hi. I have been taking Sunergetic Magnesium Complex for many years. 2 capsules/day. Like many here I liked the total dosage and the fact that it did not, in the least, upset my stomach. I did notice, however, that it caused loose stools. Very recently I became interested in my personal Nutritional Health to a degree that I had not previously. In investigating Magnesium requirements and available Consumer Supplements it became apparent that some companies listed on the bottle the exact: amount of each component, what percentage of the Daily Adult Requirement this provides and, most importantly, the amount of Elemental Magnesium that each dose provides. This is the important value since different forms of Magnesium Compounds (for ex.: Magnesium Citrate, Magnesium Oxide, Magnesium Glycinate, Magnesium Gluconate, Magnesium Aspartate, etc.) will provide differing quantities of needed Magnesium depending on how well it is absorbed into the human body. A common supplement, Magnesium Oxide provides about 61% of the listed quantity. The remainder stays within the digestive system. Many times this is a desired result: treatment of constipation for example. The common OTC liquid: Milk of Magnesia (MOM) is Magnesium Hydroxide and is used for this purpose. The absorption there is 42%, less than Magnesium Oxide. For whatever reason Sunergetic chooses to not include any of this information in their bottle or website. You do not know how much of the "500mg." dosage of "Magnesium Complex" is Magnesium Oxide and how much is Magnesium Citrate. There is also no mention of how much Elemental Magnesium you are getting from this combination. A few inquiries along these lines were posted here in Amazon Reviews. Each time the Company Representative answered by ignoring the question, simply repeating what it shows on the label (This product contains 500mg of Magnesium Oxide plus Magnesium Citrate). The adult human body requires some 400mg./day for males and 300mg/day for females. There is variation depending on age and sex but a rough generalized approximation would be an upper limit of 350mg/day for most adults. Remember, these are quantities of Elemental (absorbed) Magnesium. If, for example, you take 400mg of Magnesium Oxide each day, your body is receiving only 240mg of that. Here is some science regarding the actual amount of Elemental Magnesium contained in some of the more common Magnesium Supplements: Magnesium Citrate 16% (this gives u 48mg of a 240mg dose)., Magnesium Gluconate 5% (27mg. from a 500mg. tab). Magnesium Chloride 12%, Magnesium Sulfate 10%, Magnesium Lactate 12%, Magnesium Aspartate 10%., Magnesium Glycinate 14%. I realize this can get very confusing. It so happens that both Magnesium Oxide and Magnesium Citrate are associated with causing diarrhea, despite their high Elemental Magnesium absorption. Some compounds cause what is known as an "Osmotic Effect". This simply means that water will flow into the area containing the higher Osmolarity. Both Magnesium Oxide and Citrate seem to have this quality and are associated with loose stools. I imagine Sunergetic uses them because of the high Elemental Magnesium provision. It's not a bad idea, unless the diarrheal side effect is an issue for you. I am writing all this because I spent quite a bit of time researching it and it seemed to me that many of the posters here lacked the information, including the Sunergetic Representative. My. request is that they correct that. It's an excellent product overall.

I purchased the magnesium from Amazon for a couple of reasons: 1. I like that it is delivered to my door. Being a senior I appreciate the convenience. Also the service is always very prompt from Amazon. 2. The product itself is a very effective remedy for muscle cramps in the legs and helps with general aches and pains in my joints. I also like how it helps with my nail growth. It is a necessary supplement and I like the potency of this particular brand. I am happy to be able to purchase it from Amazon.
