what is the quartz sleeve for. do you need to replace that when replacing the uv light. i have a uv20-2 system

Depends. A UV20-2 system has only two sumps/vessels. Only One Filter Housing before the UV Housing. NOT a proper configuration. The UV Housing does not have filtration. You replace the lamp from the top removing 4 screws on the control module. Manufacturer states to replace it (the quartz sleeve) with the lamp. This is not necessary "as long as you have a QUALITY Carbon filter before the UV Chamber/sump." If you have the carbon filter before the UV Sump you most likely will not need to remove the UV Sump or replace the quartz Sleeve. You should have a 5 micron sediment, then a 5 micron carbon block filter as a Min. BEFORE the UV Sump. All 'Properly Configured' systems require Sediment, and carbon filtration BEFORE the UV Lamp/Sump. If the Quartz sleeve is cloudy or NOT COMPLETELY Clear, it must be cleaned or replaced. Very much a problem when you remove the UV Sump and mess with the quartz sleeve because it is very easily broken and a headache for anyone without experience to replace it properly. Having Sediment and then carbon filtration BEFORE the UV Sump where the quartz sleeve is contained will save you having to replace the quartz sleeve for 3 to 5 years or longer. You should only have qualified people replace the quartz sleeve if necessary. Sediment then carbon filtration BEFORE the UV will save you big problems and headaches for years if you do not know how to change it properly. Should have purchased the UV20-3 with sediment and carbon filtration to avoid this issue. Or if not already inline, add a Sediment Filter before the carbon filter and you will avoid these problems. The quartz sleeve for your system is called a #20, or part number 36003035. Many people order the wrong quartz sleeve. The (1) o-ring (two prior to 2006) must be installed using NSF Quality Water Proof Silicone Grease. There's a trick to do this easy. If you are not experience with this operation, seek experienced help. I know, because I am a Dealer For These Systems, Great systems. A headache for those without experience. The manufacturer DOES NOT SELL TO END USERS! A UVBB Quartz sleeve WILL NOT FIT YOUR SYSTEM. Be Careful and Good Luck.
