Very nice dried Morel Mushrooms
I have spent decades hunting wild mushrooms. Where I live, in Utah, morels are very hard to find. They are the "eureka" moment in my mushroom hunting history. I have never found 15 good morels in one spot. So, no, I don't eat fresh morels very often. But these are nice dried morels, and I have been cooking with them for the last several nights -- yes, binging on morels and pasta. The bag I received had more than 15 morels, all in good condition. The contents of my lot looks almost exactly like the photograph on amazon. (That alone deserves an extra star in rating!) Most were over 2 inches in length, with a few bonus additions of smaller mushrooms. Morels can be very "gritty" -- the rough textured surface of the mushroom tends to hold the earth from which it grew. These have only a tiny amount earth grit, and are better than most of the rare beauties I have plucked. They hydrate very quickly; an hour in warm water will do it. The flavor is true to morel character. I give y "hats off" to the foragers who found, picked, dried, and convey these to my kitchen. And, yeah, I am going to order more. Fifteen last a while, but I will want more....

Next best thing to fresh picked!
We had a very dry spring so mushrooms were very hard to come by. Rehydrated some and cooked with garlic infused olive oil and butter. Delicious! Added some to beef stroganoff a few days later when we had company over and everyone commented on the morel flavor. It was a big hit! Exactly what I was hoping to receive!!

Reconstitute using very hot water (almost boiling).
I grew up in Illinois and used to hunt morels with my father so I know what fresh morels taste like. To me they taste like "earthy oysters" -- delightful. I have ordered 4 packs of these mushrooms on two different occasions and a few months apart. The first time I reconstituted a bag of the mushrooms I foolishly placed them in room temperature purified water for an hour or more. The flavor was lacking and generally not good at all. The next times I reconstituted in very hot water that was almost boiling for an hour or more. The taste was *completely* different and was more like what I expected. It wasn't perfect but it was very close. So my advice is to reconstitute for an hour (not 15 minutes as suggested) and use very hot water. They were still flat after reconstituting so presentation was only 3 stars. I suggest they store them upright so they are not flattened while drying. These would not be great for eating raw but are fantastic in a traditional French mushroom sauce. 1 bag for 3 people will leave your guests wanting more so I suggest 2 bags for 3-4 people.

Good morel flavor
Used these in a pork tenderloin Wellington and again in a vegetable beef soup. Added another layer of flavor, very nice.

great value for what you are getting
Expensive, but hey, let's face it, morels ain't cheap. They do a good job and keep the sizes variable so some big/some smaller. Quick tip, use small amount of water to reconstitute so you can then use that water they soak in to add to your dish. If i'm doing a pasta sauce for example, it's worth the extra time to have the water evaporate to get the extra flavor. That way, a few of these minced up goes a really long way. If you've never had a morel, do yourself a favor and buy these. If you were used to fresh morels as a kid during "mushroom hunting" season like me, buy these...they are basically the same thing. Great product! Also, if you are looking into growing morels, please don't try :) They have an incredible complex life cycle that I could get into deeper, but essentially you will most certainly fail. Just buy the end product and enjoy :)

Honest First Impressions
Alright people strap in this is a long review let's do this. Background A lot of people ordering this mushroom have had them as children and found these to be bad due to texture and loss of flavor and such. I have never had a Morel mushroom before but have gotten into musbroom hunting as of late and wanted to try one in fall/winter when morels weren't growing. That way I woipd know if they were worth looking for and eating. Review The package is a small plastic jar with a black lid and 15 mushrooms of varying sizes. I ordered the 0.96oz package so I got 15. Some larger some smaller. Opening the paper seal that protected the product which was nice. I've never bought food from online so seeing that made me happy. It smelled earthy and meaty. I never knew what a meaty mushroom smelled like or what it meant until now. I pulled one out and let it rehydrate in some warm tap water for about 15 minutes. I could tell that from looking at the stem and seeing the little speck of white grit, not worms there were no worms, that this wasn't going to feel good. I pan fried my little shroom with some oil and butter and a pinch of salt It tasted like... idk. Meaty is a word. Umami is another, something I don't think I've ever really understood but now I do. Buttery too obviously. But it felt awful. Very chewy in a bad way and very gritty. I almost didn't want to finish it because of the terrible texture. But I paid for this im gonna eat it! Conclusion For someone who has never eaten a Morel mushroom before and wanted to make sure I liked the flavor and my stomach could handel it, this was a good inexpensive way to try it. However I will not be ordering anymore cheap dried mushrooms because the texture was just awful. I will have my family try them and when they can handel it we can use it crushed in our spaghetti. I'm sure that would be a great way to use this product.
