Make It Up: The Essential Guide to DIY Makeup and Skin Care Review: Love this book! - Marie Rayma has given us a fantastic, high quality, book that is readable, informed, and highly useful. I found Marie's channel and website, HumbleBeeandMe, to be a free mini course in skincare ingredients. Marie gives excellent source info so that a hobbyist like myself can backup our work and products with fact based information. Skincare is vas, so there is room for all of us! Marie shares with us her passion for formulating and provides easy recipes/formulas that we can use as is or modify for our needs. I have already made several of her recipes, modified for my skin type. Truly, this is a Must-Buy book. You will save time and money. It covers body butters, facial, clays, and makeup. I cannot tell you how liberating it is to be able to make my own lotions, and to actually know WHY I am using a particular ingredient and HOW it works. May I also suggest giving this book as a gift to someone you know who suffers from allergies and has difficulty finding suitable, affordable skincare products. I started learning about skincare because we found out my family members suffered serious 'eczema' and 'atopic dermatitis' due to allergies to Glycerin and Sunflower oil. Glycerin and Sunflower is in EVERY lotion including medicated lotions. I found someone who made body butter using only Mango and Shea. Bought it, tried it, and it worked great! So I watched a TON of vids before finding Marie Rayma's. channel, then her website, and now her book. It took me 10 tries using slight variations to find three formulations of body butters and creams that my family LOVES! This has changed our lives and I am saving so much money on useless creams that only numb the skin. On a side note, I also created some lotions for myself and plan to make some as gifts for family and friends. Review: Make it Up is perfect for those who love to DIY and want to explore the cosmetics side! - I stumbled upon the Humblebee & Me YouTube channel by Marie Rayma about two months ago and it is easily one of my favorites. She presents the instructions well, gives fantastic information and is easy to watch. As a fan of DIY and creating things of all sorts I decided to give this book a go! I’m very happy with my purchase. The book is beautifully put together and offers a wealth of information on ingredients and supplies including costs which were pretty spot on. I ordered some from TKB Trading. The recipes are easy to follow and lots of resources are provided on where to get some of the supplies if they are not readily available to you. Also, She offers great tips on substitutions and ways to customize your product for you. I love the layout and organization of the book. It starts with the essentials, moves into starter projects and concepts and then chapters covering skin care, face makeup, eye makeup and lip makeup. If you are new to cosmetic and skin care DIY like I am this book is a perfect book for you! I also highly recommend the YouTube channel and blog. Time to get back to flipping the pages of this amazing book! *Not sure why it says the Kindle version under my review. I have the actual book

Best makeup Formulation book
This amazing book has completely changed where my expendable income goes. Before it went to Sephora and Beautilish on makeup products. NOW it goes to ingredients and lab equipment to make MY OWN MAKEUP!! If you have watched her YouTube channel “The HumbleBee and Me” she refers to this book often and the recipes and color formulas in this book are not available on her blog or videos. So JUST BUY IT! One video I do recommend that came out after this book is the one called, “ stop spending your money on Micellar water” OMG I got those ingredients and I swear spot on to Bioderma! Thank you for this wonderful, well thought out, informative beauty recipe cook book. Face masks, ckeansing balms, cleaning products, concealer, mineral powder, pigment blends for blush and bronzers. Cream and powder ,eyebrow pomade and even mascara and eyeliner!! I’m not there yet but I’m getting there! BTW All other cosmetic chemistry books are like 200$!!! Marie pleeeeease make a second book!

I Was Forced to Buy This DIY Makeup and Skincare Book, But Now I'm a Beauty Guru!
I never thought I'd be the type of guy to make my own makeup and skincare products, but thanks to this book, I'm now a beauty guru! My wife forced me to buy it for her, but I secretly enjoyed reading it and trying out some of the recipes. The book has everything from DIY lipstick to face masks to hair treatments. I was skeptical at first, but after making my own lip balm and using it throughout the day, I felt like a new man. My lips were so moisturized and soft, I couldn't stop touching them (much to the embarrassment of my coworkers). I even made some products for my wife, and now she's constantly asking me to make more. I never thought I'd be in the business of making my own makeup and skincare, but I must say, it's pretty fun. Who knew mixing different ingredients could be so satisfying? The book itself is easy to follow, even for someone like me who has no experience in this area. It has helpful tips and tricks, and the recipes are straightforward and don't require any fancy equipment. Plus, the satisfaction of using a product you made yourself is priceless. So, if you're like me and never thought you'd be interested in making your own makeup and skincare products, give this book a try. Who knows, you might just become a beauty guru too! And if all else fails, at least you'll have soft, moisturized lips.

Have been waiting all year for this AMAZING book
Let me just say how excited I am to leave this review. I have followed Marie on her blog for quite some time, and I just adore her passion for diy cosmetics, skin care, and soap. She is witty and clever and her personality is reflected wonderfully in her writing. When this book arrived today, I was giddy with delight as I flipped through all the pages to look at her new recipes. Having made my own makeup for a couple years, I am not a novice but if you are, no worries. There is a plethora of background info on ingredients and techniques so that you can feel very comfortable starting from scratch in developing your own products at home. Marie makes a concerted effort to use as many natural ingredients as possible in her recipes, yet she also develops recipes that are very "professional" and "high end" in nature. In other words, they work! Now that might not seem like a big deal to you, but that's a slippery slope as it's often tricky to not use a bunch of chemicals to achieve long lasting lipstick and mineral makeup. In addition, I can tell she really focused on ingredients that were easy to source. Many of the ingredients you are likely to find locally, but if not, she has an extensive list of stockists and suppliers at the end of the book for customers all over the *world*. Most of the recipes are limited to 10 or less ingredients which also makes these recipes very beginner/budget friendly as who wants to buy 20 different ingredients to make lip balm? Not me! For a more experienced diyer, you can use some of the recipes to tweak or experiment with some of your own recipes. I, myself, have been inspired to play with a couple additional ingredients that I am not currently using. In conclusion, I highly recommend this book at a treat for yourself or a loved one and I can't wait for future books from Marie :)

Great DIY cosmetics book
I had given it 4 stars since I think it is a starting point in making your own cosmetics which I think are easier on the skin. I believe that anyone can change the formulas to suit their own needs, at least Marie gives you the equipment and easy to read & how to incorporate ingredients etc. Since, I myself haven't made anything from the book, the only recipe that I think is most expensive is carmine, but she points out good alternatives to this. I have made my own lotion so I had to up my game in making much more complex products so I can test it on myself and it reduces me to not buying high end and low end cosmetics which ends up unused and wasted since not all products work on my face. So if you like having fun in DIY, then this books delivers!

Awesome, though not natural
This book is very well-written and easy to understand, and an awesome resource for people who want to make homemade makeup in personalized shades. It’s obvious that YEARS of research and work have gone into every page, and I’m so grateful that Marie has made her discoveries available for our benefit. Be warned, however that while these recipes are less toxic than mass-produced products, that are not 100% natural. She recommends a lot of ingredients (like PEG, butylene glycol, phenonip, and artificial dyes) that have been a real headache to work around, and I was very disappointed at first, but this is still an amazing resource that every DIY-er needs in their library.

These recipes work!
I was introduced to Marie's work via her blog and had just began making homemade soaps and lotions. As most people, I try to balance products that have ingredients I understand and know aren't bad for you and products that work! I was hesitant to purchase this book and the materials because it's a large initial investment (I spent $50 to get makeup making supplies, but I can make almost everything in the book...I already had many of the oils and such from making soaps and lotion so this was makeup specific supplies). I was worried I would invest and be disappointed with the outcome and have all these weird ingredients. However, makeup making proved to be a success! In about an hour I was able to make a concealer, makeup, and airbrushing powder. I'm in my mid-30s with some large pores and fine lines showing. I found the dry mineral makeup was too dry and settled in my imperfections too much. However add that dry power to the liquid recipe and magic! I loved the coverage. I also found that my face looked great throughout the day. With my store bought makeup I had to reapply every time I was going to go somewhere. I just don't feel this way with this makeup. I also tried both her long-wear and creamy vegan lipstick recipes. Let me say as someone who has always struggled to make lipstick color selections, having the freedom to sit there and tweak my own lipstick color to my liking is a game changer. I used both carmine, brown and red oxides, and a mica for shimmer. In the future I will order ultramarine to allow for some more cool tints. I did feel that the long-wear lipstick was a bit dry: I had to be sure my lips were moisturized before applying for it to work. I loved the creamy recipe...felt like it was doing great things to my lips and providing color! The way that Marie approaches skin care in the book is really nice...she is giving you enough recipes to do a total cleansing, moisturizing, and makeup routine all DIY. I look forward to trying more of these recipes out and possibly being free from the beauty industry...now wouldn't that be amazing ladies?
