As a previous metal worker in the cold war era Titanium was a material of legend. The Soviets had the main source in smelting Ore (It's not rare in nature just not in concentrated refinable amounts). As aerospace needed large quantities for special products like the the SR71 project skullduggery was employed to straw buy it from "the enemy".... That would make a good book I bet. This "billet" is a fantastic affordable desk MacGuffin. While I do not have a way to test for 999 Fine purity it is without doubt light for its size, non magnetic and the incredible heat resistant properties that Ti exhibits. The finish is a nice dull matt, the laser engraving is clear and on center. The edges retain sharp corners and could be viewed as dangerous by the infantile. Weight indicated its plus half an ounce over a pound of the stuff, so not intended as a calibrated device. All the cool kids have one of these....

Half of the corners were chipped off and the pieces weren’t in the package so I’m assuming it didn’t happen during transit. Even on the corners and edges that weren’t damaged, everything was sharp. It would be better if the edges and corners were beveled or rounded, but not a huge deal if you have some sandpaper.

I got a good deal on this, but it’s very self explanatory; Pure titanium makes for a very cool ingot and hopefully a good investment on the low end. As an element collector, this made for a perfect addition.

Yet another conversation piece. This time a titanium bar. Another nice paperweight. Too bad the office has gone paperless and there are no open windows to blow papers around!
