Product is fine. I am using 16 of them as outdoor step lights, mounted in the center of each riser board. The problem is the product design, specifically, the way the trim piece is secured to the light frame. With the light frame secured to the plastic electrical box (similar to a house light switch) with the two screws provided in the package, the four spring clips of the trim piece are meant to snap onto the inside edge of the light frame to secure the trim piece, AND ensure the rubber seal firmly touches the riser board. To accomplish both these measures, the light frame must be secured so that it protrudes on the outside of the riser board (to engage the spring clips), but not so far outside the riser board surface so as to create a gap rendering the rubber seal useless. The 1/16" needed is practically impossibly to achieve. I spent hours on it. Either you don't get the required seal or the trim piece cannot snap onto the light frame, not both.My solution (as a product designer and developer) is what should have been part of the design. That is to drill two holes in the trim piece and secure the entire device to the electrical box with two decorative screws (which I spray-painted black) as shown in the photo. This way the trim piece will not get kicked off, the seal is nice and tight, the screws provided in the package are not needed, and you get a much better and faster installation.

I'm still working on flooring for my stairs, but I spent a good week wiring in six of these and a new light switch on a 17-step staircase. These fixtures look and feel solid. Wiring is easy for those that know how, and the light cast is perfect! I was going to install a dimmer switch, but the light cast is perfect for me right out of the box.Please pardon the "under construction" look of my picture, but this is where it's headed.

We love everything about these.

The simplicity of their design and great level of brightness ( not too bright not too dim) make them an excellent light for interior stairwells.

I cannot get the face plates to stay on. Each time we use the stairs they come off.

We installed this along one edge of our deck where there is a long step. It draws attention to the hard to notice step from both directions. Installation was very straight forward as we had a wood riser to attach it to. Drill the hole and mount directly to the surface. If you have any experience with minor electrical work it is very easy.
