This device has top end hardware for consumers.
Updates at the bottom: I’ve purchased this router twice but I ultimately wanted a different set of features. I first purchased this router 2 months ago and love the dual 2.5Gb ports as I have AT&T fiber 2 Gbps tier. I returned it a week or so later. I purchased the router again recently trying to give it a chance with the hardware specs. Ultimately, the router didn’t fit my network needs. After research, Merlin wouldn’t have met my needs either. The good: If you are a gamer, this’ll be great for low lag. Easy setup for dual WAN. Fast CPU that handles all tasks you can throw at it. It’s got nice RBG. I’m not into that so it can be turned off. Wifi is strong and stable. Too many features to list. The bad (in my opinion): Traffic history lacks several options. I like to get info on hours/days/weeks and which devices uses the data. The Traffic Analyzer can take up to 5% of your download peak in my testing. I like to set my reboot cycle monthly but the UI only gives the option of daily or weekly. If my network/internet goes down, I would like some type of notification from the router. This router lacks that feature. Conclusion: This will be a great router for many users but it did not work out for my needs. Update 12/22 Purchased the Synology 6600ax router in November and found that device lacking hardware wise, 1 USB and 1 single 2.5 GbE port. Solid software. Returned that router. Re-purchased the GT-AX6000 w/dual 2.5 GbE ports. After some tweaks and the latest 388.1 Firmware and Merlin, I'm satisfied enough to keep this device. The Software can be adapted/tweaked for my needs. The Hardware is solid and the best for future-proofing outside 6E/7 or Tri-Band that this router lacks. 5G Wifi speeds over 1Gbps at about 20 Ft is great.

Overkill router delivers as promised
Good control interface with loads of options organized reasonably well. Long range fast WIFI with 2.4/5/6GHZ bands crushes even in congested environments (apartment blocks) works down the street even in a high interference environment 2.5GHZ LAN is awesome, not paying cox enough to test the WAN. port forwarding is easy and fast Works out of the box, OOBE experience puts you in a good place. perhaps MASSIVE overkill, but still delivers value. Feels sturdy enough

Super Duper, speed and reliability! ASUS for the win!
After a couple years and few firmware updates...ASUS router still holding strong! First of all do not stay with 1 wifi signal, split between 2.4 & 5! So your 2.4 can easily find it, not having to determine! Mesh is EZ setup with another supported ASUS router! I pay for 800mb x 40mb and my current rig wired gets 954bm x 42mb! The 2.5 ports are awesome for FAST wired transfers! 90% of my house was covered and not with MESH its 125%! You can get down the block and still be on my wifi! I'm a tech expert so setup was super easy! If you are techy, let the web setup guide you through. TIP: sit the router as high as you can, this allows better coverage! ASUS is about the only brand that allows me to filter my wifi via MAC addresses! Keep on keepin on ASUS!

ASUS ROG GT-AX6000 - Easy setup, Very good WiFi range but equal speed performance as ISP equipment
I recently moved into an area that offered 1.2GB download speeds. I was using the service provider equipment at a cost of $25 additional per month. The equipment was an all in one modem+router which also had a 2.5g port. In an effort to save some money, I decided to purchase and invest in a new Router and Modem for the service. The caveat being that I will lose out on Unlimited data using my own equipment which was a risk I was willing to take. I bought the AX6000 to pair with a Arris S33 2.5g port Surfboard Modem as the AX6000 has a 2.5g port as well. The Asus AX6000 packaged arrived pristine with no physical damage. Setup - be very careful with the Antennas, I noticed that one my antennas for the router was not tightening properly, you have to ensure you can adjust without breaking the antenna. I noticed my antenna sounded like it was about to break as I was adjusting to access the bottom of the antenna to tighten. The process to get the Router up and running was a breeze, I used my sons Desktop PC hard wired into the 2.5G port and the browser recognized the router pretty quickly. Once my Arris S33 modem was activated, the router acquired the IP very quickly. At this point once I acquired the IP, I immediately did a speed test and....the speed remained the same as the ISP rental equipment. I did not lose out on speed; ISP equipment speedtest was 914GB down and 25up and with the Asus AX6000+Arris S33 was equally the same. I was hoping to at least get some increase in speed (this test was wired). I continued with my setup and began to open ports for my sons games. I noticed that the interface has port forwarding in two areas which was a bit confusing, I used the gaming section to port forward and i believe i have set it up correctly as i did not receive and conflict notification. Also, this is limited to a max of 38 ports. I am not sure what is the difference between the Gaming NAT section and the Port Forwarding section of the router and I found this to be confusing. WiFi Range seemed to be very good and I did see a slight improvement in range against the ISP rental Modem+Router. My laptop would struggle with zoom calls when i used it outside in my backyard, I did not test zoom with the new router in that area but i noticed the wifi status bar on my laptop improved. I have a number of devices that are on WiFi IoT's + Gaming Consoles. Xbox Series X download speeds are equally the same as the rental equipment and no decrease in speed or increase unfortunately. Overall I am happy with the Asus AX6000 but I was hoping for a bit of speed boost for 2.5G port. Even the dedicated gaming port did not improve this. I was going to give it 4 stars for that but so far it's remained stable with not decrease in performance so that will keep it at 5 stars for now. Bonus: In my previous location, I had 2 Asus AX-3000 routers which i kept, these were being used with AT&T's Modem in Passthrough. I decided to put these in Mesh Mode with the AX6000, this was extremely easy to do. I now have 1 AX3000 in my Laundry and 1 in the master bedroom. Devices seem to hop from the mesh without problem and I have increase range all throughout the home.

Parental controls and traffic analysis require you to send your data to a 3rd party
Bought this to upgrade from Gigabit to 2.5 Gbps, replacing a Synology RT2600ac router. Hardware wise this is a solid router and I got the expected raw data throughput etc. Things get a lot less favorable when you enable parental controls or try to simply collect data on how much data has been sent and received. For either of these features you need to allow your traffic to be monitored by a 3rd party (Trend Micro). I understand that for parental controls, you need access to a blacklist / whitelist database and that these need to be updated / maintained. What I do not understand how a list of sites that I visit helps updating / maintaining such a database. This is even more the case for something as simple as how much data I've downloaded / uploaded over the past week. Without consenting to the data sharing, you can only see live traffic. On the Synology router all of this was done locally and the parental controls run off a blacklist / whitelist database that you can specify. Additionally, the user interface for the Synology router parental controls is much better (for example, it allows for several devices to be assigned to a profile and then you can set the rules for the profile, on the ASUS you need to do this device by device). Finally, on the Synology I was able to run a DNS server on the router, this is not possible on the ASUS. In the end, I've decided to return this device and wait for a Synology router with multiple 2.5 Gbps ports.

Fast Capable Router with great protection features
This not a physically small device! But it is a masterful WIFI 6 router. I recently installed this router to compliment my 1GB Fiberoptic service from our town. Running OOKLA speed tests on my ethernet system showed 950MB+ speeds and wireless via our newer iPhones is running 200 - 700MB speeds all over the house with no problems. Coverage range of this new router substantially improved my WIFI 6 Mesh Network from ASUS. I was able to substantially improve coverage in an adjacent garage / suite with great performance of our streaming service in that adjacent building. The Router allows wall mount - a great benefit when installing in an area with no shelving space. The router also provides Denial of Service protection in addition to standard MicroTrends protection from malicious websites. Parental controls allow specific phones, laptops, tablets or PCs to be blocked from adult and related sites. Similarly specific web capable devices can be restricted to web access over a range of hours to protect or limit kids from getting too much online exposure. I even used those restrictive controls to protect an elderly person from scams and malicious websites - critical as dementia and memory fades but elderly remain active online. This router is protective and fast - really appreciate the features.

Severe Firmware Problems - wait to buy
This seems to be a great router - for the short time I had it. Internal router speeds are fantastic, achieving 1.4 Gbps on my Comcast nominal 1.2 Gbps service using the router's internal speed test. Throughput seems to be equally speedy. From the little I used it, the Wi-Fi seems to be speedy as well, including good performance through walls and at longer distances. All of these measures are significantly better than the Asus RT-AX3000 router that I purchased to be an AiMesh node but is now serving as my primary router. In other words, worth the money if you have a busy internet in your household. I'm not a gamer, so I didn't test any of those features. BUT ... Don't buy it now until they fix the firmware. I purchased two of these from Amazon and both had the identical issue. After updates to the latest firmware, the router assigned DHCP addresses in the 149.168.x.x address range I assigned to the router when connecting via Wi-Fi, but assigned 10.0.0.x IP addresses belonging to the Comcast modem to clients connected via Ethernet. Connectivity to the AiMesh node also had significant problems. After consulting with Asus tech support, they thanked me for the complete (more than I'm writing here) problem description and said they'd get on it. How long will that take? Good question. You probably want to know the problem firmware revision. Oops, I already packed up the router for return. However, Asus told me that this being a relatively new product, this was the third version of firmware for this product: the original, first update in May, second update in June. This is my first experience with Asus routers and I'm really liking the UI and AiMesh features. So easy to set up, so easy to go as deep or as simple as you want. Sadly, this is the only Asus router that has 8 Ethernet ports plus wired backhaul. Which means I'm likely to purchase it again if they ever get the severe firmware bugs worked out. Looking at Asus router reviews, this seems to be a theme for Asus. At initial release and for as long as a year afterward, there are significant firmware bugs that can be showstoppers for many. Don't buy it now. Wait if you can.

Great WiFi Router with 2.5G WAN and LAN
This is one of the very few consumer routers that provides a single 2.5Gb WAN and single 2.5Gb LAN. Currently, I with Xfinity's 1Gb plan and am able to get speeds over 1Mbps with a previous of 500 to 600Gbps. This router is currently paired with ARRIS' Surfboard S33 DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which also has a 2.5Gb port. I do wish manufactures would begin implementing multiple 2.5Gb LAN ports. My PC is attached to a 2.5Gb switch which is then connected to the 2.5Gb LAN port located on the router. Hopefully, with this setup I've future proof myself somewhat but only time will tell. WiFi 6 on 5GHz is relatively quick as well. Reaching speeds of 400 to 900Mbps depending on distance. This leaves for little buffering time on watching videos on my phone and downloading apps quickly. I'm familiar with ASUS's user interface. I've yet to try out their MESH system but as our home is fairly small so there hasn't been a need to set this up with an older ASUS router. The traffic analyzer fails to work consistently to monitor bandwidth usage. The user interface has a plethora of options to dig through and adjust. Overall, this is a great wireless router. The RGB setting isn't really needed just an added feature for the "cool" factor.
