Easy cleaning and super compact
This really is a great kit. It fits in my range bag easily and has everything i need for a proper cleaning. It's so compact Yet so effective. My only complaint is the instructions don't really tell you what each tool is for. You kind of have to watch YouTube vids to figure it out. I still have items in it I haven't used and I'm not sure how to. The BONE tool is pretty cool. It makes it easy to remove carbon from the BCG. There are a couple of pieces that makes cleaning the BCG really easy. From removing the firing pin couple to the bolt extractor. You screw them into the brass I bought the Otis brush and some pipe cleaners to complement this kit. I however am not a fan of the Otis cleaning solution as I found hoppe's and CLP to be more effective. I switched that with a tiny bottle of slip2000 and use that to lube stuff as needed. Also: super important. The patches that come with the kit are 2 inch patches. You can buy the 3 inch patches but Be SUPER CAREFUL how you pinch the patch. Try not to pinch to much fabric or the patch WILL get stuck in the rifle. Look inside your barrel and get an idea of the size. The kit comes with a guide for the 2 inch patch but it's super different for a 3 inch patch. It's a good idea to get a rifle rod to complement the kit. Believe me. Getting a patch stuck is almost impossible to remove without having a rod. I've gotten 3 patches stuck. The first time I took the rifle to a gun smith and in two seconds he popped it out with a rod. The 2nd time I stepped on the cable and pulled the upper with all my might. The 3rd time I used a rod and tapped it out. I've since ran about 65 patches (200+ swipes) and haven't had one stick. I make sure to always to tug on the patch to make sure it doesn't slip off; and that im using a patch that won't fall apart. Overall tho I'm happy with this kit. It's small compact design let's me take it everywhere and it has everything i need to properly clean my rifles

Absolutely the best AR cleaning kit I've found
Absolutely the best AR cleaning kit I've found. Even including a star chamber cleaning tool and the unique BONE tool, this kit has almost everything necessary to clean an AR. Pros: Bone tool is great and makes this kit's price a great value. Chamber cleaning tool works well, and shouldn't go unused. Has all the other stuff you'll need. They include long and short cables, so if you've brought along a pistol too, this kit should still get your handguns up and running, too. The compact size is great if you're limited on travel space or weight. As usual, Otis products are gentle on firearms but tough on fouling, and a great addition to your gear. It's adaptability makes it easy to use for other rifles or pistols, too; just add the right sized brushes. Cons: No fault of Otis, but if this thing had Q tips, it would truly have everything needed, so I added those myself. The biggest downside to the Otis system is that you won't have a cleaning rod on hand to knock out stuck cases unless you bring one just for that or have another. On mine, the CLP tube leaked and got cleaner/lubricant over everything. While It only took awhile to clean, I just don't trust most factory containers to be safe in a range bag unsecured as much any more. All in all, great product! I'm sure mine will last for many years, and I know I've converted others to their legendary breach-to-muzzle cleaning system. If you run an AR but haven't already assembled a cleaning kit from scratch, you need this kit. Highly recommended.

Good kit but is not the product version being shown MAY 2020
Like others have said this product isnt the one in the pictures there are two different products with the same SKU # on otisdefense and otistec websites. I ordered on the 28th of april got it on the 15th of may because it was out of stock and i believe they have started sending out a what they had on hand which is a revamped version thats sadly missing the T-handle , G2 mongoose brushes, clp oil, 8 inch flex rod. This has been reported to amazon and Otis. Customer service from otis was kind and said they would send me out the missing pieces. But do to the present world crisis things are taking longer. Ill update if i get them. I'm only going to report on the negatives. Now to the actual product i was sent #FG-556-MSR from otistec website not the older version being shown thats on otisdefense. I like this kit its quality well made the missing T handle has been replaced by a plastic handle that pulls the flex rods but cant be used to clean the bore it just spins and wont connected to any of the attachments. The bore obstruction remover has the T-handle hole in it you can stick something in there and twist but i would prefer not having to rig anything. So a negative on having to purchase another male rod to screw into the BONE handle and use it correctly. I had a spare but its long and i ordered one from the website to keep the compactness overall. Contact OTIS for any problems they are a really good company and they will sort any problems out. Overall its a worthy investment to store in your range bag if your into minimalist setups. Edit: The otistec 8-32 thread connector would have been a good add-on to connect the BONE tool with the female ended rod. Otis sent me the parts of the kit that were missing/removed from the one shown and the new version i am very grateful for their customer service.

Compact Kit, Extensive Capabilities
This AR cleaning kit really does it all. My first experience with a similar kit was with my unit. Compared to what we've previously been issued, the Otis kits offer a VAST improvement over the old olive drab Vietnam era cleaning kit for M16 and M4 style weapons. I purchased this kit to carry on my person to be consistently one of the first individuals done with weapons cleaning because let's be honest... who wants to waste time cleaning their rifle with cotton swabs? This kit is the ultimate throwdown in M4 and AR style weapons. The BONE tool gets some of the harder to clean areas on the bolt carrier assembly and firing pin - which is a definite plus. The brass cleaning implements are definitely durable and do good work. My only concern is with the brass extension rods. When you connect them and perform any activity that requires torque, they WILL be stuck together and need to be taken apart either with clamps or two gerbers. For the compactness of this kit and the envy I drew from my peers (and superiors), it was well worth the hassle.

Great range of good tools, compact, and probably the best bang for buck in an all in one set.
Otis makes some good tools. Overall, this set is a good value for the price. It's getting harder to find brass cleaning tools at a fair price and this has mostly brass components, other than the pin punch. Great way to get the BONE tool if you don't already have many of the other included tools. The range of tools this kit has is really hard to find for the price which was the big selling point for me. It comes in a hard plastic outer case, which is nice when I stuff this in my "box o gun cleaners". The smaller black nylon case is really well designed in that, while tight, it will close. Only concerns here are that the bore brush is protected by a chopped up piece of cheap plastic tubing that doesn't fit well and the zipper on the nylon case, given the snugness, likely wont hold up if used frequently. Gotta cut costs somewhere right? They did a great job of cramming a lot of stuff in a small space while ensuring protection from damage. The CLP isn't the best choice and had they included the Otis or Breakfree CLP, they would have gotten 5 stars on value, making up for the lack of included t-handle to go with the rods. All in all, this set has the best range of useful tools, including harder to find tools, at a high quality being mostly brass with bronze brushes, anywhere near this price point. The set is solid for really anyone that needs to fortify their 223/556 cleaning collection but is stellar for: 1. The person who just got their first 223/556, has no cleaning stuff for it, and wants to start practicing. This set has everything they'll need to prep (CLP) and clean up afterward 2. The range/travel bag that is going to see heavy, extended use (although in this case, definitely get a better CLP/Oil/Grease).

Great Kit but do not buy it for the BONE tool.
It took a while to bite the bullet on this one... Spending $54 on a little kit, but when I tried to find a good set of picks, I came back to this kit running. it has all of the picks and tools to get into the nooks and crannies that they hide in each and every AR. It cuts down the cleaning time for sure. You will need to order some additional Patches, the Otis ones do work a lot better than the rectangle swabs. And I would order more of the O85 cleaning oil. I'm hopeful that I will be able to re-fill the small tube for easy carry, but we will see. It is nice to have all of the cleaning tools in a nice compact container. I threw in a few Qtips and pipe cleaners for good measure. The Part I was most excited about was the BONE tool... It's a tool alright, and not in a good way. The box does state that it might not fit every bolt, firing pin, and carrier... but I think they went the extra safe route and made it either large or small so that every piece will fit. I own a Rock River AR 15 and it doesn't work with it at all. For it to help at all, my rifle would have to be fully jammed with carbon. Great Kit, but don't buy it for the BONE tool

The best cleaning system I have used
I have been using this kit for a couple of years now, and the more I use it, the more I like it. This system includes a lot of tools to clean your AR, all in a compact pouch. In particular, the B.O.N.E. tool does an amazing job cleaning off the difficult to remove, crusty residue left on your bolt and inside the bolt carrier. I do wish Otis included a more comprehensive set of written instructions with the kit, but there are multiple videos on YouTube showing how all the included parts are intended to be used. Otis's system of using patches for cleaning the bore is unique, and very effective. A word of caution when you first use the Otis patch system; I suggest making your first few patches smaller than Otis recommends to make sure you don't get a patch that is difficult to work through the bore. You will soon learn how make a perfectly sized patch to quickly clean your bore. I highly recommend this kit for any 5.56/.223 AR.
