Easy to place on the cable to be measured. Consistent results from measurement to measurement. Nice to be able to adjust the tension and see the immediate result with the gauge on the cable. Add a small string and clip to tie it to the cable being measured, to stop it from flying off the boat if you happen to drop it :-) I made a nice canvas bag to store it in on the boat. Great lifetime tool. If you have 1/4" cables like me, you can get the smaller or larger version of the gauge, depending on whether you think you may also be measuring smaller or larger than 1/4" cables.

This tension gauge is high quality and easy to use. The price is right too. Prevents over tensioning whi h can result in leaky chainplates. Also helps prevent unbalancing the shrouds which can result in demasting the vessel. This is so easy, I will check my standing rigging every month. Purchased this item to set the rig tension on my Macgregor 26X. Even with second day delivery the price was less than local marine store. This tool works as advertised and is very easy to use. I like that I can leave it on as I tension then a quick shake of the gauge and read the result. I recommend this for anyone with a small sailboat. I was surprised to find that what I thought was a tight rig was not even close. I leave it in my on-board tool kit and let my dock mates check their rigs.
