Q: They used to call it "Post-It Glue Stick". It worked very well. Is this one the same in spite of the name change?

yes. Post-It & Scotch are both 3M brand names.

Q: Can this be used on plastic? I have plastic bags with flap that I would like to open and close and keep secure.

The glue is too weak to use for a close/open purpose. I have just tried it for you, and if there is the slightest resistance in the flap (as there would be between a plastic bag and its flap), they would not be securely closed.

Q: Would this work to glue a paper poster to the wall? Does it leave a residue on the walls, and if so is it cleanable off walls?

I don't think it is strong enough to glue a paper poster to the wall. I use this for gluing things onto a piece of paper that I would like to be able to easily remove (works great for this)

Q: Can this be used to mount/remove/remount coins in a book?

I don't believe this glue is designed for the weight of coins. I think it is only meant to be used with light paper, photos and so on.
