Harlan Teklad Global Rat Food Pellets 2014 (33lbs)

My rats love these lab blocks. They prefer it over Mazuri and Oxbow adult rat food. Rats are scavengers so they can eat an omnivorous diet, but I prefer to feed them whole plant-based ingredients because things like meat and dairy are inflammatory to their little bodies and often give them cancer quickly. There is no telling what the source or purity of meat ingredients will be. I like that these pellets are vegetarian. They would be vegan/ plant-based but they contain D3 in the form of lanolin, which is too bad. Overall high quality, tasty to the ratties, and fits their nutritional needs well! They have beautiful coats and lots of energy even past middle-aged. I supplement the envigo block with fresh veggies and the occasional fruit and nut.

The ricing for the product was excellent, but the product suprisingly got mold on it very quickly. I have never had this happen before, so don't know what happened, but when I opened the boxes, the product had mold both outside and inside the bags of rodent food. Maybe they were either not stored in a dry enough place, or somehow the product got damp/wet in transit,, but I have never had mold on/in the rodent food I use. Hoping this is a one time incedent!

One of the best rat foods on the market, right alongside the adult Oxbow rat food. I use both of these to create a blend and my rats love them. I ordered the largest size I could and it lasts a long time, so it's definitely worth it.

I love this food, and my rats do too, this is the most nutritionally complete formula for pet rats. I am docking two stars for the company who makes it (Harlan Teklad, owned by Huntingdon Life Sciences), which is a despicable animal testing company. If I could buy any rat food from any other manufacturer that was equivalent to this, I would, but it doesn't exist. Google them, the top results will show you what they're about: testing cosmetics, breaking laws, punching beagles for no reason, and the list goes on. This company was so bad that they had to be bailed out by the government through a loan, which doesn't normally happen unless you're a bank.

Food is fine, maybe even great. Our rats like it; have grown from 8wks old to 5mos beautifully. The shipping cost, however, is preposterous. It's not grandmother's china set. It's not refrigerated insulin. There's no complication here; it's food for rats. It's a bag of grain products, acting as a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over their natural diet. If the product is slightly crushed or spends an extra week in the truck, the rats won't care. So WHY ON EARTH does a 33lb bag cost almost a dollar per pound to ship?!? I am determined to feed my rats well, but $2/pound is way more than I pay for a roasting chicken for ME to eat. I will not order this again.

Very good diet for rats my rats prefer this to other brands like Mazuri.

I use this feed for my Rats who work in a Barn Hunt program, my rats are happy, healthy & super active.

Uniform size and shape, so far so good the rats seem to like it and their coats are soft.
