Sophisticated Hydrating Essence
This is a hydrating essence (to be applied after toner and before serum, or in place of both when layered) with a beautiful texture and good results. It has fermented grape water which boosts the fruit's antioxidant properties, as well as adenosine and hyaluronic acid for smoothing and hydration. It has a lightweight watery texture with a nice amount of slip and some viscosity. It sinks in quickly and isn't sticky or heavy, but isn't so thin that it's runny and difficult to apply. The name of this is a "lifting essence", and I'm happy to say that this actually stands up to its claims! On a few different occasions I applied the Papa Recipe to half of my face and different toners on the other half, and in every occasion the side of my face where I applied the Papa Recipe looked more lifted and smoothed, bringing out the contours of my face (but my skin still felt very hydrated and comfortable). This is an innovated and well-formulated product, and I think a lot of people with different skin types would enjoy it. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that if I use it for a couple consecutive days, I start to get some small closed comodones. No irritation, just some clogged pores. Since skincare is so subjective (and my skin in general is very finnicky and breakout-prone) I can't hold it against the essence, and I still think it would work great for other people, just keep in mind that if you're extremely breakout-prone then the fermented ingredients in this might not be the best fit.

Pricey essence/toner but effective on my dry & dehydrated skin + feels soothing...
How could I NOT review a product with a name like Noble Rot? Especially when there are so many skin care products out there that really are just a bunch of rot...Happily, this toner isn't one of them. I have seen references to the Papa Recipe brand, but never looked at any of the products closely and hadn't tried any of them until now. I ran across this essence/toner and the serum ampoule from the same line and after reading through the product descriptions, I definitely wanted to try them. They seemed perfect for my dry, dehydrated, rough and sensitive skin...This essence/toner is thicker than what I think of as an essence which I equate with being a bit watery. This really feels a bit like a light-weight serum to me. It is clear and slightly viscous but not thick or syrupy. It feels rich but goes on easily and spreads smoothly over the surface of my skin; it immediately feels soothing. It takes a few minutes to dry and become absorbed into my skin and during that time it does feel a bit tacky. This sensation goes away quickly and my skin feels softer and more hydrated even without another skin care product layered over it. It doesn't feel as taut and drawn and the roughness is mostly gone. Of course, it is even better with the serum/ampoule. I can't really say it has helped reduce any of the signs of aging or really lifted anything on more than a very temporary basis, but it is definitely moisturizing and that in itself helps plump up my skin and minimizes lines and imperfections. I like this product much more than I expected, and although it is rather expensive, it works very effectively on my skin and causes no irritation or redness. I usually use this at night, but it is suitable for both am and pm use for me. The current price is $36.95 for a bit less than 7 ounces, which seems like a lot. However, I think the serum/ampoule is well formulated and of very good quality, so I will very likely repurchase it once I have used it up -- this might be a while as I only need a small amount per application. The product is in a cute soft-sided translucent plastic bottle featuring a color gradient from yellow to brown that reflects the ingredients (you can see the color change when you shake to mix the contents) and a cap that has a loop on top. The bottle did not have an outer seal and the box was not sealed either, but there was a metal seal covering the shaker style opening under the cap.

Conditions The Skin
A very nice toner, or essence that does a good job at conditioning the skin. At first, I was a little turned off by the name containing the word Rot, but I also realized that it means red in several different languages. Calling itself Noble Rot makes sense, especially when you see the translucent reddish brown color of the substance. Besides, being made from grapes, Noble Rot, or Red, makes it sound like a fine wine. Guess you could say that this is like wine for the face. It's a thin liquid that spreads across the face easily. Absorbs well and feels soothing while being applied. Once it's fully set, the skin looks healthy and feels soft to the touch. There will be a glow about the face without it feeling sticky or tacky. It's not oily or greasy either, though you can feel that it has provided you with some moisturization. Would be good to use by itself on those days when you just don't want the weight of various skincare products on your skin, especially on those hot and humid days of summer. Works well with other skincare products though, as well as with makeup.Seems clean and has been safe on my skin. Has not caused me any sort of irritation at all. Does not burn, nor dry out the skin. Should be good for all skin types. Good for both men and women alike, as well as all adult age groups.

Didn't use-Returned
Couldn't use because I am on Retin-A. Certain ingredients in product cannot be used with Retin-A. Had to send it back.
