Martin Furniture Hartford Writing Desk, Brown

I'll admit...this desk wasn't my first choice. I'd been looking to replace a very inexpensive, very worn out desk that was somewhere around 17 years old. I found this desk after I ordered from Costco - but they completely flubbed up my order, wasted two of my Saturdays waiting for delivery and left me working on a borrowed folding table for 3 weeks until I was able to get this one ordered and delivered. But, things work out as they should. While this desk was a little bit more $$ than the one I had ordered previously, it's very well made, was easy to assemble and looks great! Not only that, but it was delivered a day earlier than originally promised. They even showed up 30 minutes before the delivery window. Which, I guess, could be bad if I wasn't home. But it worked out well for me and gave me the full weekend to put the desk and my home office back together. It arrived in perfect shape and the delivery drivers were fantastic. The only thing I would mention is that, as some reviewers have mentioned, the top has a bit of texture. So if you're going to be hand writing letters to your pen pals, you'll probably want to put a notepad underneath. But who handwrites anything anymore anyway? For the price, the quality and the impeccable delivery I absolutely recommend this desk.

5 stars for this desk. Great engineering in the packaging to protect the desk from the not so gentle handling by the shipping/delivery companies. The fit and finish is excellent and it assembled easily. It is great product. Looks great and ordered the rest of the office suite (2 bookcases and file cabinet) Shipping review: 3 stars. The expected delivery was between 12-3 pm, but the delivery company called at 9am saying they were in the area. The time was fine with us. The delivery team was OK. We requested that they stay until we opened the package to verify the integrity of the contents, as the big note on the side recommends (before we sign the receipt manifest) and the young man accepted it but he wanted us to hurry and sign. Not great customer service but sufficient.

Overall the desk is perfect. I thought the top of the desk was wooden but it's still very pretty. It was hard to tell from the picture. The drawers slide nicely and have adjustable dividers. The side bars are plastic not metal. I may not have read the description well. The keyboard tray is perfect and goes back into place well. I was going to give a 4 because of some damage it sustained in delivery. I don't have time to mess around with a return due to starting a new work from home job. Returning it would be a bigger pain. So...desk 5 stars...delivery 1 star. I don't blame the Amazon driver as he probably had to deliver this by himself and it's an extremely heavy desk! This is the chance you take with online shopping.

The best desk I ever owned. My husband purchased a classic executive Martin furniture desk recently and I looked for a different style; I wanted something more suitable for a romantic person who writes blogs... Not a desk that reminds me of my old accounting offices and cubicles. When you go into the "executive desk" areas, most desks are so dark, square, "masculine" if you wish. So I explored white desks, beige desks, washed out, brown, Luis XIV wannabees, all kinds. This one won even though it is square and dark. The pictures don't do it justice. It reminds me of an old writer's desk, or a rustic but modern getaway home furniture; soft, natural to touch and very pleasant in color. Love it! The front drawer can serve as a keyboard tray. There are a couple of USB and power connections on the desk top, which is awesome. It i very spacious and not gigantic or a monstrosity. Very lovely desk.

The first thing I should point out is that this is a very sturdy and solid desk. It doesn't wobble when I lean my weight into it. It's a "do it yourself" assembly, which was very easy and straightforward. Despite being careful, the top of the desk was easily dented; I suspect that this part of the desk might be built from HDF or particle board. At first, I didn't fit under the center drawer: my thighs would scrape the drawer every time I scooted in. Turns out the center drawer is easily removed with a screw driver and the result looks good and functions great.

We purchased the writing desk as well as the executive desk for my husband as he was going to be working from home for the foreseeable future due to Covid. We received the writing desk and the executive desk is on the way. This is a beautiful desk. Unfortunately, two of the corners were badly damaged (see pics). The box wasn’t damaged just the desk. We are deeply disappointed as we thought we were purchasing something of solid quality.

My boyfriend and I easily assembled this sturdy desk in less than 15 minutes. It has a nice quality and is really beautiful. Ample space for my large computer screen and piles of work. Honestly, I was pretty blown away with how great it looks! I would have included a photo, but I just moved into my new home. The office still needs attention.

Great quality materials. All solid wood with some metal, great finish, and is heavy. All three drawers are functional, some with partitions. Also has a power outlet and USB slots (has to be connected to a source of course).
