OK it is ink and HP has us over a barrel. if you dare to put any " refilled" or "previously used" cartridges in there they have a sensor and the Newer HP models reject it and they won't work. The company sucks big time. My feeder at the top broke after 1.5 months and it is impossible to fix. I just have to lift the top and copy one page at a time. I had to return 2 HP printers to get this one that works. They have us in a trap. It is like to old Zenith TV commercial: "The quality goes in before the name goes on." This is just the opposite. The ink works, but you have to put their NEW container= lots of money spent when it could be done a lot cheaper and their printers break down or don't work as they should I wouldn't want to get an HP again. I give up with them. I prefer Samsung. It works.
