This item is used to kill and eliminate nerve function on fish after they're caught. It is really effective for this. It is good to do this to preserve meat quality and end suffering. From the moment of getting hooked fish are in a high stress situation. This has a negative effect on meat quality. The best thing to do is to kill your fish in the quickest, most humane way possible after the catch. You should never put a live fish into an ice box. Spiking the brain with an ikijime is the best way to quickly kill fish.

Picked this up for humane fish dispatch and it works as advertised. The spike is sharp and the wire runs clean when you hit the right spot. My first few tries were a little clumsy, but once you get the hang of it, it’s efficient.

I am a fishing charter captain, and I learned the Ike Jime technique from a client who is a chef. He went to Japan to learn, and uses the technique for all fish served in his restaurants. He also endorsed the Ike Jime tools from a major American fishing tackle manufacturer. But I wasn't about to pay $30 for an ice pick and at least that much more for a length of wire, notwithstanding the fact that both are stainless steel. So I was glad when I found these, and I have used them on every fish we kept on my charter boat this past season. I was a little worried that my client, the chef, would be disappointed when he saw that I hadn't bought the tools from the company he had endorsed. But he took out his tools and guess what... he had a set of these as well, and not the more expensive ones. What else can I say? I have used these tools to perform Ike Jime on dozens, if not hundreds, of fish of a variety of species. Scup, fluke, sea bass, bluefish, striped bass, bonito, tautog, and even bluefin tuna. I know that my clients appreciate the extra effort to provide the highest quality fish. We still release a lot of the fish we catch, but for the ones we keep, Ike Jime has become standard procedure on my boat and these tools are excellent.

This tool is very effective and affordable. The wire is the only way to quickly and humanely kill catfish due to their thick skulls. The spike works well on other fish.

Awesome device. Watch YouTube to learn how to use and where to stab the fish. It is neat to see thr fish spasm once you get the right location.

Does exactly what it should

Broke on first use. Dangerous. This is a great concept, but it has a massive design flaw. Because the wire has to go through the spike there is nothing holding the spike into the handle, except a tiny, tiny piece of plastic. The very first time I tried to use it. The spike shot through the back of the handle and into my hand, causing me to bleed. This product should be removed from the shelves.
