Excellent very useful product
Great product! Really useful and accurate feedback. I bought this product to monitor my stress levels which it does really well but also has lots of other really useful features, such as body battery and sleep score. Better than many of the more expensive similar products on the market.

Reliable but maybe a bit dated - good free app
Third time lucky? This is the third watch I've tried after a leading brand whose app died and a brand that matched my phone whose battery died 2months in. In both cases Amazon support fabulous - leading brand helpful but powerless, phone people hopeless. Garmin is the other big name in this sector so I gave it a whirl. I didn't want anything too huge on my wrist so went for vivosmart5. It is similar to bands I've had from the other leading brand. It's a bit more pricey though and a bit less functional - no timer, no choice of face, slightly worse battery life doing about 5 days with autowake off but most other functionality on. No problems with phone connection - both the other brands were temperamental. I really like the app - lots of data, lots to customise. Like all watches it's step counting is a little inaccurate. It does do GPS tracking of walks which is a new thing for me. I've swum a few times. Waterproofing seems fine and you can just about operate it with wet hands. It doesn't autodetect swimming so you have to set it off as you start. Length counts are a bit out but you can pull up a graph in the app and see how many lengths have taken twice or half as long and work it out. I use alerts for texts and calls - you get full message of text on band. I also use the alarm - you can only set this from the app, but it is silent if you need to rise without disturbing partner. I just wish there was an on band timer - handy for cooking. Lots of ways to customise data to view on band but I use app more. Strap is a bit plasticy - I saw a report suggesting we should wear silicone to avoid forever chemicals. It does up comfortably and easily. I've only had irritation when I've got moisture underneath I've failed to dry. It just has a proprietary to C cable supplied. Happily my phone brand dead one had required I buy a C charger (or you can charge from phone) so that was not wasted. Charger plugs into physical port behind watchface - not magnetic like many newer ones. Overall it seems to do most of what I need reliably. It just feels a bit behind the times, especially for the money, so four stars.

Happy customer
Really happy with this purchase. Everything works as expected. Great if you want an uncomplicated solution to tracking your activity and sleep. It does also give you notifications for calls and messages but I have turned that feature off.

A Complete Disaster - Do Not Recommend
First off - I’ve worn a Vivosmart 4 for the last year and was looking forward to the upgraded version. I like the simplicity and sheerness of the 4, as I wear a watch on the other wrist. Since it’s been 3+ years since the last iteration, I was expecting the 5 to be substantially better than the 4. What a shame Garmin! This watch would have been obsolete in 2020. You added almost no new features besides the ability to change the clock face. Does it really need a button? No - the tap to navigate menus worked fine before. You forgot to add the ability to reorder clock face widgets. So you’re stuck staring at data you may not want to see (you can add/rearrange widgets on the sub menus). As far as actual size, it’s almost twice as wide and sits noticeably higher. The black and white screen is light years behind almost all other trackers. The battery life seems to be a joke, since it burned through 10% in 15 minutes of having it sync and going through menus. As far as price, it’s grossly overpriced- it is currently 15£ more than the Fitbit Charge 5 (which in all aspects is a superior product) and close to the same size as the 5. If you’re expecting an true upgrade to the Vivosmart 4 - this is not it.

Great for the price
This is great for basic health monitoring, heart rate and sleep - excellent feature for strength training with counting reps which is accurate most of the time, the pulse ox meter is also useful for checking your oxygen levels. It obviously does not have GPS function, so you must carry your phone with you if you wanting to map and record distance for an activity. I bought this watch because I already own an Edge 540 for my bike rides and therefore didn't want the GPS function. I do wish that it would read a Heart rate strap for more accurate results when running. All in all a good watch for the price.

Basic and short battery life
This was my first try at using a Garmin having always used FitBit. I was disappointed as I couldn't fully customise the swim length. Great as a step tracker but not much more. I returned and upgraded to the Forerunner 55 which I love!

Vivosmart 5 - A nice competent health and sports tracker band.
After my Fitbit health tracker band finally gave up the ghost, I decided to look for the closest equivalent I could find. The Garmin Vivosmart 5 seemed the best fit for me regarding size and function. In fact, this device exceeded my requirements for trackers for Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, Step count, Sleep monitoring, etc. I wanted a band size similar to my old FitBit and a sub £150 price tag. So far so good. I am pleasantly surprised at the Vivosmart 5. Functionality outstrips my old FitBit, and the companion Garmin App actually gives me most (if not all) what I would have to pay extra for by having to subscribe to FitBit’s premium subscription. Battery life can be quite short (approximately 2 days) if the Blood Oxygen readings are set to constant (Pulse), but I get approximately 4 days use (permanently on my wrist) without charging if this function is turned off. I can of course switch this on again if I require a check, so I know it’s available. My only minor niggle so far is that if I want to use non-metric weights and distances, the weather temperature (synced from the app on my phone) displays in fahrenheit rather than celsius. Even though it's celciius on my phone. It seems this cannot be changed unless I select metric weights and distances. Not a major issue for me, as the weather apps on my phone suffice for this data. So, in conclusion, after a few days of ownership, so far I’m impressed. If I could score 4.5 stars I would.
