Awesome toy for kids
My son love this toy it’s so cute to see him play with it, the sound quality is good, and battery life is good as long as you don’t let it constantly run, very durable as my son loves to throw things and quality is great.

Great value with some drawbacks.
Needs two AA batteries for the controller and two AA for the engine. The engine very works well up and down hills pulling even better than the Brio Mighty Red which was our previous best engine. It fails at backing up hills but then they all do. But it is a bit too high to fit in the standard wooden tunnel from Brio and also does not make it under some tracks on elevated overpasses unless you shim them up a bit higher than normal. It has very loud and obnoxious steam engine sound effects which don't make any sense with the "commuter train" model we got. I put tape over the speaker holes and that helped some. The remote control uses an infrared signal so the control must be pointed roughly in the direction of the train and not have any objects in the way. A word about that in the instructions (which are poorly translated) would have been helpful (they speak of "pairing" as if its Bluetooth but there is no pairing). There are A/B channel switches on the control and on the train that must match (both A or both B) so you could use two of these and control them independently. The control has a forward and back lever which works a bit awkwardly. You must press it forward and hold it there for about two seconds to get the train to move ahead. It spring returns to the neutral position while the train continues. Then if you pop it to reverse briefly, it stops with a loud hiss sound. Or if you hold it back it reverses. There is also a button to sound a loud horn, and a button to toggel the front lights on or off but only when moving forward. When going backward the front lights are always off and a rear red light blinks. Lots of fun for our 3 1/2 year old grandson. A very good value for the $15 price.

Difficult to sync, likely won’t work
Received 1 as a gift, didn’t work. Bought 1 to replace it, still didn’t fully work. The train seems like it needs to sync with the remote. Managed to get the remote to turn the lights on/off & make a sound, but the forward backward joy stick does nothing. Customer service tips not helpful. Tried multiple batteries. Tried all sorts of buttons. Did everything exactly correct. Not functional. Try a different brand.

Great
I bought this a while ago and it has stood the test of time with kids that play with it hard. It’s been through lots of throwing and fits of not sharing. The battery life is great and it can pull quite a bit. I think it looks fun and it is fun to see with the lights off. The joystick controls are great as well for toddlers.

Fits with traditional wooden train track set
This train set fit the wooden tracks perfectly. My son loves the Bullet train style and the control lever made him feel like a conductor. It synced up well to the train itself and later another train (same model) for continued use. It's continued to hold up well and work over the last couple years, just replace the batteries as needed.

Broke after a week
Stopped working - removed the screws. The GREEN wire disconnected in 2 spots and it’s bare in a few areas - no power & short I’m sure. Had to throw away.
