Excellent fan. 4speeds, merely hum at lowest speed.
Update: its been a couple years now and still love this fan. It's attractive, quiet at lower speeds. If you are on phone often but still want effective and quiet, this is it. It also fits well under most monitors if placed horizontal. It has proved to be long lasting and reliable. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Original review: Bought this fan after watching some reviews. I use this fan at work and very impressed with it. Some Plus’s: 4 fan speeds, the lowest speed is very quiet, merely a hum, easy to forget the fan is on except you can feel the cold air, It is perfect if you are on the phone often and want the fan closeby. I have owned a few desk fans before and this is the best one so far. Constantly amazed at the super cold air it puts out Even on the lowest speed. I know this sounds crazy but it is almost as if it’s a mini ac. I know there are a few cheaper options for 19.99 or 29.99 but this one is definitely worth the price. I’ve bought desk fans from other manufacturers in the past and they are okay at first but they started squeaking or making noise from vibrations. I will update this review after a few months of use. I would definitely recommend this Vornado desk fan as of right now.

Solid and simple.
Works standing or flat. Simple one button control. No remote to lose. No oscillating to fail. I had both of these problems on the regular tower fan so now it work just like this Vornado unit ( On/off and level change only) Air is very focused and not lossy across distance . It's direct line powered so does not go through a power brick or require another power source like a USB one. A bit more power hungry than the Sharper Image USB powered fan which only uses 1.5W to 2.5 W to run. This one uses 21W at the lowest setting, then 30, 38, and 52W on the highest setting. It move tons of air so no complaints there. It's about 55 dB noise level at full blast down to 40 dB at lowest setting. Not entirely noise free but not unpleasant at low settings. Love squirrel cage fans for how well they work at moving directed air. This is a great example of one to own.

LOUD BLOWER NOISE, but effective at pushing air across a big room
It's a powerful little blower. Moves air quite a long way - suitable for a large bedroom or living room. Great for pushing the cool air away from your air conditioner unit so the whole room gets cooled instead of just the few feet near the A/C. As an added bonus, it is quite slim and can be mounted vertically or horizontally to fit on top of a desk or between a pair of sculptures. Just be sure to give it a couple of feet of clearance in front and behind to get good air circulation through the device. But it is loud. As in, don't put it in the room where you watch TV kind of loud. It's a constant sound, too, not like you would get from an oscillating fan. It might keep you up at night if you put it where you sleep, but it will move the air across that room. This unit has no timer, no auto-off feature. Simply three speeds and an off button. Lowest speed is basically useless, middle speed might work for a smaller room, high speed is for larger spaces. Medium and high speeds are both quite loud but in terms of circulating air consistently and constantly it is more effective than a traditional "propeller" style fan.

Not sure if I just got a bad one or something
* UPDATE * So about after a year, it started grinding/squealing and then just stopped working. I opted to take it a part to try to clean it out and see if it would help, knowing it'd void my warranty. It ended up working for a little while, then started again. I opted to email them, clearly indicating what I had done and that I knew I voided my warranty and that I wasn't asking for them to honor it. I was just looking for some advice on something I might be able to do, to get it working longer than I had succeeded to do. I promptly got a response back from them, giving me instructions on what to do and they would send me out another unit. NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING! I thought for sure I was going to get a response back staying I voided my warranty and they would not honor it and blah blah blah. At the very most I was hoping to get a response back stating maybe spraying it with WD-40 or something would fix it. I was in no way expecting them to volunteer to still honor the warranty, after I blatantly admitted I voided it and was not looking for them to. That to me shows GREAT custom service and is a company I'll continue to do business with! Also should note, this new one isn't as loud as my original one was neither. So I believe it may have been a dud from the get go. I mean, don't get me wrong. It is still a noisy little machine, but not as noisy as my original one was. * ORIGINAL REVIEW - 3 STARS * Right now I'm on the fence for this. Not sure if I just got a bad one or something, but it's really not what I expected. I bought a larger, 184 model which encouraged me to get this. This thing on it's top 2 settings is louder than the 184 on it's highest setting, which is 4-5x larger than this. While speaking about it's size, it's a little larger than I thought it'd be (and yes, that's even with viewing pictures and reviews), which in some ways is a good thing and in others, not so much. Does seem to put out quite a bit of air, almost comparable to the much larger 184, at least IMO. Just definitely louder than I had thought and hoped it'd be. Also kinda wish it had a remote. Sure I'll be updating this in the future..

Cannot use because of the higher pitched motor hum/coil whine.
Size is great but the build quality and motor are BAD. Moves air in a focused way that's actually perfect for a little desk fan, problem is on settings 2-4 there's a loud motor hum. It sounds almost exactly like really bad coil whine. Anyone that has had a computer with a low grade power supply or any modern large video card would know and hate this sound. If you have any sort of sound sensitivity or just hate coil whine stay far away. And! the plastic is bad, with poor tolerances that gives it a little wobble sound at setting 1. speed 2 is about the only setting that sounded ok/meh, but at that speed it doesn't move enough air for me. Sound Details: On speed 4(max) its at 175hz F3 note at a very annoying level 62db using a phone app, so grain of salt, but can say its far too loud to be on my desk or even across the room, and speed 3 its about 136 C#3, app was saying around 55db for that, Still not at all tolerable for me but I could see some people being ok with it. For reference the top E on a guitar is 82hz or E2 and the bottom E string(the higher sounding one) is at 330hz, E4 and still too loud for me with the fan about15 feet away across the room. The noise appears to be coming from the motor and sounds like bad electrical hum. Its not a pleasant white noise sound at all you expect from a fan, just grating.

Good for a tight spot, but rattles after a few months.
I have several different Vornado fans throughout the house. Most are conventional fans. They move a lot of air relative to the noise they make, which is why I am willing to pay a more for a Vornado over other brands. This is the only tower fan that I own at the moment. I've had it for over a year now and it runs continuously most of the time. I like the compact design. it fits in a tight spot between my desk and the doorway to our office. We have a fair amount of computer equipment and this little fan does a good job of discretely circulating air from the hallway into the room. It's quiet on its lowest setting and tolerable on the next setting up. The two higher speeds make the squirrel cage blower whine loudly enough that I never use those speeds. Overall it's noisy for what I'd expect from a Vornado. I know tower fans are generally this way, but I was hoping for better. I don't like the speed control. My other Vornados use a mechanical switch to set the speed. Some of them are plugged into smart outlets so that they can be setup to run when needed rather than all the time. I would like to plug this one into the power strip that controls my computer equipment. However, I can't do that because the electronic speed control always defaults to "off". I see this in a lot of appliances lately and it's really irritating. The controller should store its setting in serial flash or use a mechanical switch. Rattles. Most fans have to deal with some vibration. My other Vornado fans tend to be made of heavier plastic that helps dampen vibration fairly well. This unit's shell is thinner plastic that easily rattles in response to the unbalanced blower. The blower is missing a blade where they had to tighten the screw on the motor shaft. There is a metal clip there to try to balance it out, but obviously balance is not a priority for this device. The cause of the rattle is the balance, but source of the noise is a combination of things. The upper bearing is held in a soft rubber bushing and the lower drive shaft is also isolated from the blower with a rubber dampener. These help absorb some of this vibration, but the grease that they use in the bearings seems to dry up quickly. Some white lithium grease mixed with some 90W gear oil tends to silence these cheap shaded-pole motors. It works on the upper bearing, too and doesn't seem to bother the rubber. Getting the rear bearing cup off of the motor is a pain, but it can be done without removing the blower by flexing it out of the way. The other rattle source is the motor itself against the housing. There are no fasteners holding it but some strategic bits of foam tape on the support points will stop it. Overall, I'm not sure it's worth paying the "Vornado premium" for this fan. It doesn't seem to be much better than your typical fan of this size from Walmart. The controller hasn't died yet like it has for some people. If it does, I will probably hard-wire the speed to what I need so that I can have it turn on and off with my computer equipment.

I cant get enough of it. I'm a fan...
Super functional, super flexable. Use it vertical or horizontal. I use it while sitting on the couch with it 15 feet away it feels like a summer breeze (on #1). It will not cool a room. It will give you a breeze that feels cool. My favorite I use it in the bedroom while sleeping on a summer night with it 7 feet away on #1. It keeps me from waking up in a pile of sweat. Told my sister to buy it. She fell in love. What a buy! Update: If you think your Vornado fan is getting noisy. Turn it upside down and lean it against a wall so it will stay vertical. Use a flashlight and look inside where the shaft of the fan goes into the white plastic bushing (near the buttons). Spray or squirt any oil of your choice (I used machine oil) into the white bushing. It needs to be upside down so the oil will migrate into the bushing. It is dead quiet now! Dont over do it or the oil will get into the electronics.
