Review: Academic - It's an interesting book and of considerable intellectual value. But I have only read two chapters so far as it's very academic rather than gripping to read! Review: A glaring omission and so a fundamentally flawed exercise - The Jews of Vienna - their contribution, influence and legacy. A great subject area to research. I have two problems with this effort. 1) It reads too much like a converted thesis (which it is), dancing the academic dance. 2) It completely omits any consideration of the essence, the fundamentals, of Jewish tradition; of who Jews are, their defining essence. For this author, eating cheesecake in a Viennese tea-room, no doubt. Such a glaring omission renders this a fundamentally flawed and failed exercise.

Fascinating story of the epoch
Interesting description of period. Surprising number of Jews whose names are still remembered. Mahler, Freud, Schnitzler, Schoenberg, Hertzl, and so on.
