Best grub for insectivores, sweet with a hint of bacon
I’m always up for trying unusual foods and have sampled several insect products. The sago grub is one of the best out there. These grubs are oven dried and salted. There were 8 grubs in the package that I received. The outside is slightly crunchy, with a smooth and slightly creamy interior. They have a modestly oily texture not way different than biting into a smooth candy, and the taste is mildly sweet with a bit of a smoky bacon flavor. For anyone friendly to trying insect foods and wanting a different experience beyond cricket flour or chips, these authentic sago grubs are the way to go.

Not fresh
Not fresh. The oil has turned to a wax like substance. I think this is my last time ordering

Expensive novelty, not bad
I can't give these 5 stars because they are very pricey and the quantity is so little. It took me a while to try these because I got Covid right after ordering them, and my sense of taste and smell were completely gone for a few weeks. I figured there's no point trying them if I can't actually experience it. Once my senses returned I gave them a try.The flavor is strange and very savory, but also somewhat sweet. It reminded me a little bit of honey glazed bacon or nuts, but not as sweet. The texture was off-putting, but that probably has more to do with expectations than anything else. I think I might make cookies with the remainder of them. Chopped up and mixed with other flavors, the texture and sight of them might not be so off-putting, and the flavor should blend right in as well. There are less costly ways to eat insects than these, but they are unique and I'm glad I was able to try them. I probably won't be ordering more of them, though, especially at the listed price of around $16 for 10 grams.

Great taste, not worth the price
This is great for those who are curious and haven't tried sago worms yet. "Bacon" is the flavor people swear by, but it reminded me more of the flavor when you bite down on the tail of a shrimp to get that last piece of meat out. Not bad, with a slightly soft texture a bit like biting down on a cooled piece of bacon with some congealed bacon fat.If you're adventurous and want to try bugs, you can definitely do worse. However, if you're a sago worm fan the price is outrageous for what you get. You could buy a full bag of frozen shrimp and experience the same flavor. So overall, I would only recommend this if you're wanting to try sago worms without buying a large amount. If you're already a fan, this is overpriced.

2 or 3 stars at best. Not worth the money and time considering how much is really in the bag...
So, the food inside the bag comes in an even smaller bag than advertised (about the side of a small 'Advil 'bottle). You could literally just pour the entire thing in your mouth and finish it in one gulp. Pretty lame for item that cost close to $20. They definitely should add more to make this product more marketable.

Interesting...not for the squeamish :-)
I love to try different foods.I'm open to eating just about anything once (or twice).I saw these and just had to order them.I couldn't find any instructions on preparing the dried version of these so I kind of 'winged it'..I soaked them in hot water for about an hour, the sautéed them in butter, garlic and chili flakes. Finished them with a dash of salt, pepper and lemon juice.I have to admit, once I worked up the nerve to actually put one in my mouth, I was pleasantly surprised. The texture was slightly crunchy, slightly creamy. The flavor was a bit nutty, almost, almost "shrimp-like"...almost...Would I order them again?Probably not. While they're not crazy expensive, they aren't exactly cheap either for the quantity that you get. I just don't see the value here. If they were like, "wow! That's the tastiest thing ever!" Kind of delicious, I could see it. But IMHO, they're more of a novelty thing at this price point.Want to freak out your friends and family? You bet!Interested in trying something totally different? You bet!For a regular type food to just eat/snack on?Not so much.
