The trial that starts out the book is the main focus and theme of the book and builds with mystery and intrigue as more events arise especially towards the end. Really enjoy Jessie as the main character. She has many levels to make her well rounded. I’d recommend this book. Review: A little less graphic language, thus book would have been outstanding. - The book had a great story line. It was filled with intrigue and and suspense. Except fir the constant use of the "f" word and graphic sexual situations it ccould have been an outstanding book. I'm not sure how much of the story I missed by skipping over the gross parts. I loved the characters, they were individually interesting and exceptionally competent.

Has everything that I want in a good legal thriller
Burnout, the first in the series of Jessie Black Legal Thrillers, had been sitting in my to be read queue for a few years when a subsequent novel caught my attention. Since I enjoy reading books in order, I went looking for this first one and was caught up in the story from the first page to the last. This is a well written and very well plotted story. The characterizations are excellent and both dialogue and actions ring true. There is not only office politics but also a good amount of courtroom drama. The plot is complex enough to keep a reader guessing and has enough twists to keep it interesting. This is a really good legal thriller. It is fast paced and action filled with well developed characters. Burnout is a stand alone story and wraps up neatly but I definitely plan to read more in this very entertaining series.

Very good
I thought this was very interesting and pretty good for a first book. Characters were strong, well-fleshed out & believable. I love legal thrillers and this author certainly has a good grasp on it. I definitely would be interested in reading more.

Larry A. Winters is the new John Grisham
Burnout. A book so nice that I’ve had to read it twice. This is the book that turned me into a Larry A. Winters fan. A Jessie Black fan. I first read Burnout nine years ago, right after it was published. Now I’m reading the ten-volume series for the second time. There are eleven volumes counting the prequel. In Burnout, we meet Assistant DA, Jessie Black, Detective Mark Leary, Warren Williams, Jessie's immediate supervisor, the boss of the DA Felony Division, and the DA, Jesus Rivera, the main cast of characters. The main characters that will appear in all the Jessie Black books to follow. Characters were so lifelike that I felt like they were all people that I had known in the real world. The dialogue, the settings, the action so realistic that the temporary suspension was never an issue for me. I didn’t feel as if I was reading a book. I felt as if I was right there with them, experiencing what they were experiencing. Perhaps that was because, back in the day, I had lived that lifestyle. Burnout, at 424 pages, is also one of the longest books in the series, but, as with all the Jessie Black books, it’s nonstop action, a roller-coaster thrill ride from the first page to the last, so they seem much shorter. For me, they often seem to end too quickly, leaving me wanting more of Jessie. In Burnout, a man on death row for multiple murders and rape that he did not commit wins an appeal for a new trial. A jury of his peers at the new trial finds him not guilty and given his freedom, but this story doesn’t end there. The real ending to this story will blow you away. This story has more twists and turns than a sidewinder’s path through the desert sand. Read this story and it will better prepare you for what you will encounter in all the Jessie Black Legal Thrillers. Larry A. Winters reminds me a great deal of John Grisham because both write legal thrillers where the action takes place both in and outside of the courtroom/

Great book, Worth the read
I don’t really know how to describe this book but I feel like the description does a good job. This book was amazing if your into the legal triller type stuff. It kept me interested through out the whole book and the author made the characters feel real so it was really easy to connect to them. I found myself emotionally invested in the story and I loved the ending. The book kinda tries to lead you to root for the DA and their case but I found myself from the very beginning taking the accused side. This book really makes you think about how everything isn’t how it always appears and facts aren’t always facts. I would be cautious reading this book PLEASE check the trigger warnings this book deals with some heavy stuff.

Excellent Legal Series
I you love Stephen Penner and Robert Bailey, you are going to love Larry A. Winters too! Larry A. Winters is one of my favorite authors! Legal thrillers are my fave. I wanted to be an attorney, but my daughter is living my dream. "Burnout," is the first in the series of Jessie Black Legal Thrillers, I previously read "Murder Charge" and was HOOKED! Since I enjoy reading books in order, I ordered the entire Jesse Black Series. "Burnout" is a well written, and the fast-paced, believable plot has twists and turns. It is difficult to stop reading. The characters are believable and "JESSE BLACK is my fave. I loved the courtroom drama. The judge is a piece of work. All of Winters' novels are stand alone books. There are no "cliffhangers." Now on to the "Informant."
