Great smart lights if they fit your budget
I love LED accent lighting and was excited to see Kasa come out with these. I already have over a dozen other Kasa products - mostly smart light bulbs and a couple smart light switches. PROS: - For me, smart controls with Google devices works well. This is the main reason I paid a big premium for this type of light strip and it was the most important thing for me - Kasa app is easy and intuitive to use - Very easy to install - peel and place, plug and play - Extensions are also very easy to add. You just plug them in to the end of a 6.6' strip , turn the strip off and on, and the extension acts like an extension (same color, patterns look good, etc.) - Great brightness range - Great color range, including cool and warm whites as well as many, many vivid colors CONS - Depending on your application, these can get really expensive really fast. Used as accent lighting running the inside perimeter of two 6-foot tall bookcases cost over $300 with tax. And I paid for them with my own money, these were NOT given to me in exchange for a review - Once you cut a strip, the rest of it is trash. For each of my bookcases, I had to cut the last ~16" of lights off to fit, meaning I threw away about $25 worth of extensions - Strips are not very flexible - you'll probably need to run them in a straight line. There are no angle adapters available that I know of that would allow a 90 degree turn Boiled down, the pros are the lights perform really well and give you something I don't think I could easily get from cheaper lights - the ability to control on/off, color, and brightness with my voice. But the cons areyou need to have the right application to pull these off. They are expensive, but the price compares pretty favorably to most of the other smart strip lights out there and you don't need a hub or anything else at all (other than electricity and a smart device to set them up) to run these lights. I have had pretty good luck with Google controls. The first couple days, connection was a little spotty. But it quickly improved and even if one command did not work (e.g. turn on light), I could use another command (e.g. set light to 20%) and then the strip would respond to everything. Now, it seems to work well and its very rare that I have to do anything special to control the bookshelf lights, which are part of a group with other Kasa lights. If you're like me, this is the main reason you're buying these lights. You buy the product in a 6.6' foot stretch and can add extensions (sold separately in 3.3' increments). You can't just buy an extension, the extensions only work with the full 6.6' strip. So if you are trying to light a 3' section, you'll have to buy the 6.6' strip and basically cut it in half and throw the cut section away. This is annoying because the strips are clearly made in 1.65' sections and either connected by thin wires or a bulky (0.18" thick) connector. I wouldn't mind so much if you could install the strips with a turn (like make a 90 degree angle), but you can't really do that. Now for the good stuff. The strips are very sturdy. Even though you can tell they are mated about every foot and a half or so, they are encapsulated in a soft clear gel-like plastic. The back has a high quality 3M tape strip. I never once had an issue with the tape not sticking, though I was working on a clean surface. Once installed and turned on, the lights are just what I wanted. Because my lights wrap around the inside of bookshelves (Ikea Hemnes shelves), I get a LOT of light. They very easily light up the shelves and I use them all the time at different brightness for different moods. The patterns are fun but I don't use them often. Kasa promises to allow custom patterns at some point. I love that you can adjust the white color from warm white to cool white and there are tons of fun colors. I included a few pictures of the brightness taken late at night when it was dark out. I have the two bookshelves, each one with one 6.6' light strip and 3 extensions (though the last extension is cut in half to fit cleanly). My camera sort of auto-adjusted the brightness but I think you can tell they are very bright. At 100% brightness, they virtually light up my (relatively small) living room. My bookshelves unintentionally have a light rail that helps hide the LED strip so I don't see the strip itself unless I'm looking at the bookshelves from the side. At less than 0.5" wide, they do a good job of lighting things up without sticking out. The product description leaves a lot to be desired. More dimensions... the cord from the power outlet to the light strip controller is 22" long, the cord from the controller to the light strip is 6'10" and 1/8" in diameter. The thickness of the light strip is 0.18" at block-like connections on the strip, but only 0.11" thick at the LEDs. So if you're trying to run in a bookcase along the sides of shelves, the strip was thin enough for me to fit it between the side wall and the shelf keeping the LEDs hidden. The width of the strip is 0.48". Overall verdict, if you're into accent lighting and willing to spend a premium for a slick and stable mobile app and the ability to control everything with your voice, these are awesome lights. Over time, I hope these strips will become more flexible, adapters will be provided to turn the strip On the other hand, if you don't ever want to change the color or brightness of the lights, just turn them on/off with your voice, you'd probably save some money by getting a smart electrical plug (Kasa and others make them) and using a normal, significantly cheaper LED light strip (though professional installation, if needed, would cut into those savings).

Best LED light strip, hands down
I'm impressed enough with these to do an in-depth review, but here's a TL:DR so you don't have to read the whole thing: These are Homekit compatible out of the box. They have separate white LEDs and separate color LEDs, so color rendition is exceptional. Most LED light strips create white light through a mix of colors in their RGB LEDs, meaning the "white" the company chooses to give you is the "white" you're stuck with. This particular Tapo strip has discrete white LEDs, which allows you to select the exact color temperature desired for your application. On top of that, they're covered in a clear flexible coating that keeps them safer (but does make going around corners more difficult). As of mid 2025, this is the ONLY LED light strip I would buy. They're nearly perfect. Now, for the long review: understand that Tapo is a TP-Link brand, and TP-Link is a very decent hardware company. I had great luck with one of their Wi-Fi access points/routers, so when I got sick to death of wasting my money on Wyze security cameras (Wyze is a seller of subscriptions that uses hardware as an enticement, whereas TP-Link is a hardware company that will sell you a subscription that's better than Wyze IF you want it) I decided to try a Tapo camera. The Tapo camera impressed so much versus Wyze that TP-Link's Tapo brand was very much at the forefront of my mind... I'm installing a lot of LED light strips various places so I've been experimenting with various products. This particular location had a Wyze LED strip installed as a test. To be fair, it was reliable, but the Wyze app is substandard and I wanted Homekit compatibility, which Wyze used to promise, and never delivered on. So it was off to Amazon to search for Homekit compatible LED light strips. Meross and Tapo were the predominate choices. I have Meross products, but they no longer offer light strips with discrete white LEDs, so TAPO was the obvious choice. Heck, even unboxing the things was impressive. The clear flexible plastic covering sets it apart from the average LED strip, and the electrical connection/power supply give off very decent vibes for something that cost under thirty US buckaroos. Now, the one single downside I've found to these is that nifty plastic covering makes turning corners a fair amount more difficult that with the typical flimsy tape strips, but it's a price I'm willing to pay to get the many other benefits. Compared to the Wyze strip the colors are more vivid and the whites are obviously in another league, owing to the separate white LED set built into the strip. Both colors and whites are much brighter than the Wyze strip, but I think they will go dimmer as well. IOW, the *only* thing the Wyze strip does better is go around corners, otherwise it's worse in every regard. I've only had these a few days and I've spent more time writing this review than I have messing with the various options, but these are hands down the best LED light strips I've ever seen/used. I think the real difference is that TP-Link is a hardware company that is well versed in having to make things actually work (otherwise, their routers wouldn't sell), where as most LED strips are sold by fly-by-night companies that may not even be around next year. I don't own any Macs but I do have an iPhone and iPads, and I tend to equate TP-Link to Apple in that they're selling hardware first and foremost, but they back it up with decent (for the most part) software. The Tapo strip was a little more difficult to get online than the Wyze strip (by a very small margin), but once it was online it has been stable and produces an impressive array of lighting options. And lighting ability is why we buy light strips, which is why this product gets an unequivocal five stars from me. As of this writing, I intend to use these all over the place. They're that good. I have zero affiliation with anyone involved (other than my disdain for Wyze as a company), so I have no incentive at all to say this other than being impressed with the product: just buy it. Thanks for reading.

Best smart strip I've tried.
Have a few of those, and use them in different setups. One being a homemade lamp, where the power end is run up into the attic. And unfortunately that one is the only one I've had, failing, on a small section. All the other have worked flawlessly. Through the Tap app, not only can you choose any color desired; they also have a large choice of preset patterns, from Christmas to ocean, lightning storm, Easter, and so on. Or you can make and save your own pattern. Dimmable. Work with the Tapo buttons, for on/off/dimming, or color changes. Also works well with Google home, and Alexa. Haven't tried Apple's system. But Greta light strips - when they don't fail. And TP-Link did offer a replacement. Just haven't felt like crawling through the tight attic to disconnect the power, then take the lamp down, and disconnect it, to separate the strip form the lamp. Really blows. Enough to remove a star!

Excellent functionality and value
These are really excellent LED strips. Don't be intimidated by the regular price - there's a lot of value here. Tapo allows for the same lighting controls that are featured in its other smart bulbs - and more. There are 150 bright, uniformly colored LEDs which are programmable in blocks of three (each about 10 cm long). The strip itself feels more robust than I expected, and the adhesive seems OK (so far). There is plenty of wire length from the DC adapter to the control unit, and then more from the control unit to the light strip itself, so no problems there. It's the holiday season, so right now I've got one strip programmed to turn on when there's someone in the room, and the stock light preset we use is called Grandma's Christmas Lights, which is great. Well done, Tapo!

This light strip is problematic. I initially got it to work right out of the box. It worked for about one month and then disconnected. It's been 5 months more and I always try to reconnect but with no luck. I even set up a new 2.4band network just for these lights but still no luck. I think it might be a poor designs with the controller. All the steps are connected and controlled by one controller and I think this causes problems somehow. Avoid this even when it's on sale. Buy the higher priced ones and save yourself countless hours of frustration.
